The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I have to record some video documentation for a piece of software at work, and I'm not sure what software to use. They've used the free version of Jing in the past, and I've got plenty of experience with Fraps, but neither of those do what I really need here.
I've seen screencasts on YouTube where people zoom in/out on areas of the screen, but I don't know if that's done in post production or during recording. The software is web based, and I need the text to be readable.

Do you mean something like Snagit? That's probably the leader in screen recording. Techsmith makes Jing as well.
For fanicier stuff, Captivate is probably the best (pricier) option.

You can set lots of different camera capture rectangles and switch between them in real time with hot keys.
Currently in live beta. Should work pretty well for your needs.
