I don't think the pop-in has been as bad for me as this guy, but I haven't checked extensively yet.
I've been asking forever if there was a way to fix this via ini settings, and if there are new confirgurations you can do with the patch that further improves performance.
I really can't say I've noticed that issue. Maybe he should verify his game cache? Anyway, I'm running on Linux via Wine so I experience significant lag, but so far the game seems to run fine with Ultra and Ubersampling disabled in the config at 1024x768. AA and SSAO are on, so in fact the game looks quite nice. The Texture Memory and LOD settings are what you'll want for pop-in, but keep in mind that "Far" on LOD gets a bit slow, and too high of a memory size will cause too much VRAM to be taken up by textures, causing you to load areas more often.
Alright now, a bit more detail:
On Ultra with AA enabled you won't notice as much difference between higher resolutions and lower ones besides onscreen fonts being fuzzier at lower res. Additionally after you have your settings how you want them open up user.ini and set Ubersampling to 1. This causes the game to use AF, and weirdly seemed to smooth out performance just a bit more for me, while also improving the look. Note that I didn't think things like AA would matter in this game but it really seems to improve the clarity of textures by a lot, and the AF just gives it that extra boost.
Hardware:
2GB RAM (ish... a bit more actually)
Intel Q9550 (Clocked at ~3GHz for stability sake)
EVGA GTX 460 768MB Superclocked (but no OC beyond that)
So on further tweaking to try to pull out the best performance:picture-quality I can I ended up disabling AA as I found that there was a slight performance increase along with some improved texture clarity as long as UberSampling was set to 1. I also did a subjective and objective comparison via screenshots and I found the following:
Ultra (sans AA, Ubersampling set to 1) looks good (great really). But then I tried:
1) Low preset
2) Modify its settings via the Advanced menu to set everything the same as Ultra (so this should in the end configure the game to use lower quality shadow maps/max texture sizes)
3) Modify User.ini with the following: AllowSharpen=1, UberSampling=1.
This gave me a boost in performance while subjectively not appearing to change the graphical quality by much if at all. Screenshot comparisons revealed slightly lower quality textures (they just appear a bit blurrier) in the world, but not enough to be generally noticeable. Faces still seemed to be as detailed as before (which was my biggest worry).
Edit: Wow, in my screenshot directory I stumbled on some AC2 screens and it really doesn't hold a candle. Neither does ME2 (which I also have screens of in here). Granted they are definitely different games but there's a lot of color treatment and other atmospheric effects that really make the graphics in TW2 magical.
So what happened in patch 1.3 that breaks the controller from being able to select any signs or items in the combat radial menu now? Finally got mybro to start playing this game, since he's the one to buy it, and now the controller doesn't work for shit. 1.1 broke it so you had to use D-pad. 1.2 fixed it, and now 1.3 broke it again. Any fixes? Can't find a damn thing on google for it

How to install?
For those with a new version of the game or if you have already updated to patch 1.3, game will be auto-patched to 1.35 from the launcher.
If you have patch 1.1, download patch 1.2 and 1.3) and then auto-update from the launcher to 1.35.
Same with patch 1.2, download and install patch 1.3 and auto-update from the launcher to patch 1.35.
If you encounter any issues during the auto-patching, please check the support site and download the patch needed manually.
Below you can find the full list of changes:
Issue with shadows in 3D Vision mode has been resolved.
Screenshots to savegames made in 3D Vision are now visible in load menu.
Issue with Steam achievements not being registered has been resolved.
Blood texture glitches in game with ubersampling option turned on have been fixed.
Pocket item counter is properly updated after picking up an item which is already selected.
Issue with ingredient counter when brewing multiple Thunderbolt potions has been resolved.
Finished “Scent of incencse” quest is no longer marked as failed when entering Loredo’s residence at the end of Chapter 1.
Corrections have been made in the greater mutagen drop rate.
Deleting savegame after entering memories and flashbacks menu no longer causes “Loading available flashbacks” message to appear.
Game exe files are no longer treated as a threat by popular antivirus software.
Patching the game automatically right after installation no longer causes Launcher.exe error on Windows XP systems.
Game installation folder is not recognized if diacritic signs were used in folder name on Windows which doesn’t support them. Patch now properly informs about the cause of the problem.
Name of two scientists in Flotsam have been corrected.
Storage chest description have been corrected.
Description of Mahakaman Rune Sihill imported from The Witcher savegame have been corrected.
I will say the launcher did NOT auto-patch me from 1.3 -> 1.35 like the site says it will so maybe that isn't implement yet. I just downloaded the patch instead.
I wish they got the launcher's auto-patcher working again. I found it a lot more useful than having to hunt down and manually download a new patch.

Yeah, I only ever had the launcher patch me the once (1.2).
Cool that we still have patches coming, though. Did we ever get a fix for the bug where Flotsam men didn't wear pants? Or did we just admit to ourselves that that was a feature?
And yes, it has to be a feature. Some kind of warped Polish sense of humour perhaps.
I feel like there are more people with pants than before, but still lots of pants-less men walking about. I think at this point they'll leave the mistake since it's just become part of the game's charm for a lot of people. It's one of those bugs where if you fix it completely everyone will just get angry with you.
Man, I don't know if it's the hotfix, or that I recently learned to disable the visual desktop under the exe's properties, but the game is running smoother than it ever has before.
My only complaint is the rampant pop-in/texture loading. I tried to increase the draw distance in the ini, but that didn't seem to do anything. It's not a big deal, but it does break the immersion somewhat.

Increase your Texture Memory size. Assuming you have enough VRAM setting it to Large (400MB) should do the trick.

Weird. What's your max texture delta/size? It varies depending on your preset.
Coming straight from CD Projekt RED’s poster that will be in this year’s GamesCom, we now know that the PC Version 2.0 of The Witcher 2 will be released on September 29th and will be free of charge. Well at least to those who have already purchased the game. This new, updated version will be free and not a DLC – something that other companies would do. Kudos to CD Projekt RED for deciding something like that and lets hope that Geralt’s lag will be fixed in this improved version!
No idea yet, but people are speculating that it's going to be an "Enhanced Edition" DLC for the game. Looks like we'll find out tomorrow.

I'm very fine with them releasing extra content for free, but I would gladly pay for another full chapter of content. Having already played through the game twice (once on hard/shirtless), I need a little more than a couple of random side quests to really get me into a third playthrough.

Did you do both major story paths? They're quite different. Also things play out differently based on a few other choices too. They did a really nice job with the replayability of this game. Though, for some reason I can't help but always go signs+swords (with the only upgraded signs being Quen and eventually Heliotrope).
I finished my first time through a few days ago, and went strictly swords. LOVED the Story. Combat was meh, was expecting more of a Batman:AA type system, but didn't have much trouble adapting, just in the end I wasn't thrilled with it. Next time through I'm going to go heavy into Sign and am excited about the prospects. I Sorta wanna go through the same path I did before and make some minor changes, but god damn, I'll never have time to see all the paths.... So last path was Iorveth, next one will be Roche. After that? Wiki to read what the nuances did!

So I'm playing the hell out of this game. Like, holy shit, Game of the Year so far.
Question:
Right now I'm kind of dumping all my points into sword play. Unlike the first game, where I basically ran for my life and cast Igni whenever, I pretty much have to dump those points into swordplay so I wont die horribly. Am I missing out not dumping points into the other branches? Also, what's the average level a player can achieve at end game? Cause....that skill tree demands a lot of points.
Putting points in Magic will keep you alive longer thanks to Quen, along with Yrden for traps, Igni for AOE damage and Aard for quick stun combos. Nearly all signs can be used as part of a combo.
The same applies to Alchemy to some degree. Traps and Bombs will get you out of sticky situations and the tree allows you to consume enough potions while questing that you'll be a walking tank.

There is Greater mutagens in this game?
I didn't get any on my 1.3 playthrough and thought that the regular mutagens were the highest level there is.
on vanilla they were plowin' everywhere

1.35 is fixing only the greater mutagens, so I assumed they made them actually drop during the game.
