Is there a safe file out there for the original Witcher for a much later chapter? Because I'm still in Chapter 3 and it just keeps going and going....:(
where are you? chapter 3 isnt that long, as long as you save the swamp return for one single haul.
keep in mind you're at nearly at chapter 4, which is fucking awesome.
Is there a safe file out there for the original Witcher for a much later chapter? Because I'm still in Chapter 3 and it just keeps going and going....:(
Interview with CD Projekt RED founders, Michał and Adam Kiciński.
Q: Is there going to be a Mod Toolkit for The Witcher 2?
A: It is not in schedule for this year. What's next - it's too early to say. But of course we remember about it and as soon as we get the opportunity - we will return to the issue. Let's remember, that we want to give the fans something they will be able to use easily(and not some tools only for professionals working in a bigger team). That's why we have to wait some more for the toolset
Q: Are the fixes and suggestions from the forum's users going to be included in Patch 1.4?
A: We keep gathering information about possible fixes and enhancements. Next portion will come in version 2.0. And then the next one, and next one after that ;-)
Q: What about next big add-on for TW2? Is it going to contain new quests or also new locations to explore?
A: Right now the add-on is not in schedule and it will not come out this year for sure. If it eventually does however, it will be both – new quests and areas. But as making a full add-on requires a whole lot of work, we wonder if it is not better just to make whole next game instead
Q: Questions about 4:3, 5:4 and 16:10 aspect ratio support, which as we know was solved in patch 1.3 in a way that the image was stretched to a width that fits the screen. Are we going to get a full support for these aspect ratios and will FOV be properly adjusted?
A: It will stay the same way it was in patch 1.3, so FOV will not change.
Q: Is CDPR planning a title outside The Witcher’s universe?
A: CDPR would first rather think about how and where to lead the Witcher’s universe than introduce a new one. The reason is simple – a project like this requires a lot of work and preparation, which in Witcher’s case is already done. There will come a time to talk about it, in a few years.
Q: Is it possible to make TW1 remake with Red Engine and TW2’s combat system?
A: It would be possible and it was discussed internally. However, we have to choose things with highest priorities. This project is not one of them at the moment. It would be making a total remake, with all the consequences, meaning more or less making the game from scratch. It’s a very substantial decision. It certainly wouldn’t pay off to make it just for one platform. It also feels like some more time should pass, before it’s worth to remake TW1. We don’t say this won’t change. “Rise of the White Wolf” project's status is “frozen” not “cancelled”.
Q: What about PS3 version?
A: As the engine is being built with all platforms in mind, it is natural that we think about PS3. But we don’t want to and can’t do too many things at once. And at the very moment XboX360 version is on the plate. After that is done there will be an announcement what will be the next release from CDPR and it is not said it couldn't be PS3 version.
Q: Do you think that W2 release for Xbox360 in a window between other big RPGs (Skyrim and Mass Effect 3) is a good idea?
A: There are always big, strong competitive titles out there. We keep looking at when it’s comfortable for us to release the game. We believe it will be capable of competing with the biggest titles out there, just like the PC version did. The fact that the Skyrim’s release comes before W2 for Xbox might turn out well for W2. Right before Skyrim’s release players will be experiencing a huge and well executed marketing-PR campaign. But after the release, when the game will show its true colors, that magic will be gone. It will show its best sides, but also those worse ones - things that are not executed well or not well thought will appear. Like with TES: Oblivion. On the other hand TW2 will be a mature and polished product with established reputation, and while not a brand new title, it gives us advantages that we will use.
Q: What about the RED Engine? Were there any propositions to buy the license?
A: We are being asked by different people about the potential licensing. But bear in mind that it only makes sense when the technology is 100% tested for all platforms. That’s why licensing has to wait.
Q: How is W2 selling worldwide?
A: Very good. I think it will be among top selling PC games this year.
Q: Do you consider yourselves as hardcore or casual gamers?
A: Most of the people in CDPR are definitely really hardcore. That sometimes makes proper design decisions harder – see complaints about W2 prologue difficulty.
Q: Do you think it’s likely that you create more console-ish game in the Witcher’s universe in the likes of God of War or Dante’s Inferno?
A: It is not really possible. Games like GoW are very spectacular, but they lack content, that we want to pass to the players. The storyline's depth, that makes The Witcher the game for adult, mature gamers.

More like add-on some time from now and a new a game years after that. They're not EA-sized that can do tons of projects simultaneously. It's a pick-and-choose.

I'm in love with this game all over again. Its fucking beautiful. It was great before to but being able to play with all the visual settings way up and have a solid 60 frames per second is incredible.
I just managed to get the crystal for Hunting Magic too after doing that quest for God knows how long. I actually stopped playing almost immediately after the 1.2 patch hit because I was so frustrate with not knowing where to go. Man, it feels good to get past it. Nailed the Harpy contact And the Queen Harpy one too.
Did I mention the game is awesome?
I feel less upset about not being able to get Dead Island now
Hah, just done Baltimores Nightmare quest, great reward at the end of it. Kept getting over the weight limit though so I dropped a bunch of ingredients. It then dawned on me that I don't actually need them since I buy all my portions and oils
Feels much better knowing I can sell nigh everything I find. I have no points in alchemy so crafting is out the question.
I also don't seen to take any damage at all. I'm getting hit, it just doesnt seem to be doing much. Bit of a bore because of that tbh.
Finally on chapter 3. The battle at the end of chapter 2 defending the wall really brought the framerate down, it went from 60 to 20-30. Even if I turned the settings down to medium. Can someone tell me their setup for their gtx 460? I know I can h get Ultra, or close to it.
Their assessment is quite accurate actually. When Oblivion came out everyone was mad hype for it, but once the dust settled everyone kinda realized it was not that awesome of a game and if it wasn't for the modding community it'd be dead in the water right now.

So I loaded up the configuration tool and it reset my settings. I've not played in a few weeks but if I remember correctly, I was setup as thus:
I max'd everything and turned off UberSampling, now as to my actual FPS while playing, I'm not sure, as I turned FRAPS off after a while and forget what I was getting.
So, in summation, I've been of no help. You're welcome!
edit: Fired it up and noticed that I was only running at 19FPS with the settings as such.

That is pretty amaznig, thanks. And now I feel like an idiot because outside of large combat scenarios, I was actually getting 40-ish fps. I was aiming for 60 though which is probably ridiculous on a single 460.
Yeah the end happened so quick for me, I wasn't expecting it to be the end, so Hadn't done ANY of the side quests in the area. Still, the end was good, except for all those things you want an answer to not being answered! Hurry up DLC or W3!

Its basically the one death and its over mode but without the one death thing. You can reload a previous save. Some of the content is also darker too. I'm guessing items and characters probably.
its insane mode but without the no reload thing, so its harder than hard mode plus there are new "dark" items only in this mode, thats pretty much all we know.

It all happens today at 4:15pm GMT (6:15 PM CEST, 12:15 PM EDT, 9:15 AM PDT)! We would like to invite everyone to watch the presentation LIVE here or simply go to The Witcher Facebook page. Don’t miss out on the big announcements coming in just few hours.
So today I discovered that one of the campus libraries has the entire Witcher run up in the non-English floors, which look really cool because their cover lines up to spell the name in Polish and show the author's signature...but even better is they had the translated Blood of Elves and the original short story in a collection of Polish horror stories, too (with iffy translation - 'gomb' for 'striga'?). I'm all over that.
The Witcher 2 on Xbox 360 will get extra story content as well as the 2.0 enhancements, Dark Mode, Arena, new tutorial and new four minute opening cinematic, CD Projekt Red has revealed.
And, crucially, it will all be offered for free on PC, either "around the same time" or very shortly after. "If there's going to be some differences they're not going to be like months," story designer and writer Jan Bartkowicz told Eurogamer in an interview following his Witcher 2 Expo presentation. "They're going to be more into days. It's what I think is going to happen."
During his presentation, Bartkowicz showed a slide with 12 bullet points, each referring to a new feature coming to The Witcher 2 on Xbox 360 (and, we now know, PC). Four were filled out (Dark mode, Arena, tutorial, CGI opening). The remaining eight were greyed out and blank.
Most, if not all of those, will be story additions. There are no new modes being worked on beyond Dark Mode and Arena, Bartkowicz told us.
"I cannot say anything very particular. We're really focusing on expanding the story a little bit and not - I don't know how to talk about it without revealing anything I can't. Within these eight points it's not going to be about technical improvement so much. It's going to be more about from the narrative point. It's not going to be CGI stuff. We are going to have some additional events that are going to happen in the game," he told us.
"Majority of this is some stuff that will make the story bigger, show some back story, show some additional events - and now you can understand some things that were still open at the beginning of Witcher 2, but are right now closed."
Bartkowicz believes the story content will be "bigger than all the DLCs we've released so far", and offer "closure" to some storylines in the game.
There's a chance it could revolve around character Yennefer. "We haven't forgotten about her and she's a very important part of the whole story," Bartkowicz revealed. "And that's all I can say - I can't say anything about future releases."
CD Projekt Red referred to the Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2 as an adaptation rather than a port; there's significant effort being poured in to ensure that the company's belated console debut is a success.
"We want to have a game that's going to have the Xbox 360-exclusive title quality."
Jan Bartkowicz, story designer and writer, The Witcher 2
"Right now we're focused on delivering the game for Xbox, and we want to do it internally. That's why we call it an adaptation," Bartkowicz told the Eurogamer Expo 2011 audience. "We want to have a game that's going to have the Xbox 360-exclusive title quality.
"Almost everybody in our development right now is focused on delivering this game to Xbox 360. And we're a small studio; right now we're around 80 people in the development part. It's the first console title ever for us and we wouldn't want to grab too many things at the same time and deliver a poor quality product at the end of the day."
He added, in our interview: "I believe it's going to be like no other game on Xbox [360]. And, of course, there's a lot of marketing stuff you can say, and a lot stuff that marketing guys want people to say is probably bullshit. But I can say with my hands on my heart that there's no such non-linear and mature, complex story on Xbox."
CD Projekt Red wants The Witcher 2 on Xbox 360 to "take advantage of everything the console has". The Xbox 360 controller has been a particular focus, and support for it has been "revamped" beyond what's already available on PC. Bartkowicz revealed to Eurogamer that there will be some targeting assistance, as well as help with Geralt's initial reactions to combat.
CD Projekt has also had to "avoid some shortcomings" on Xbox 360, owing to the console's deficit of power when compared to a modern gaming PC.
"I'm not really that good with all the technology stuff. We really pushed it for the PC release, so it's natural that you have to do some voodoo to make it look really great on Xbox, and sometimes you have to replace something with something else that will deliver a really cool graphical experience," Bartkowicz said during his Eurogamer Expo 2011 presentation.
He also revealed that on Xbox 360 the game will likely span two DVD discs.
"We haven't had an official statement about it," he said, "but I think we're - it's going to be more than one. It cannot be three, but I think it's going to be two discs."
Bartkowicz teased that there may be something "graphical" included on Xbox 360 to fill in players about the back story of The Witcher 1. A comic, as in Mass Effect 2 on PS3? "It's going to be graphical stuff I think," he told us. "How it's going to be made I don't know."
During his session, he said: "I can't say anything about adapting The Witcher 1, but we're already working on a way to present the back story, the storyline from the first Witcher, to console gamers who haven't seen the PC release. I cannot say anything specific, but it's something that we have in our mind, and once the Xbox 360 version hits the shelves, something is going to be there."
Bartkowicz talked over a live demo of The Witcher 2 on Xbox 360. This had hero Geralt and a dwarf companion exploring a forest near Flotsam and fighting monsters to lure out some nasty elves for a chit chat. Textures were notably less detailed than on PC, particularly on Geralt's face, but the environment looked sumptuous nonetheless. Rest assured, the game remains visibly striking, and performance was good. Bartkowicz later told us the footage was from an alpha build of the game.
Whether or not The Witcher 2 will be on PS3 is a decision Bartkowicz hasn't been privy to. It also sounds like a decision that hasn't yet been made.
"It's a decision that's made in a room of four people. I don't know anything about any decisions about PS3," he revealed. "All of us would love to see it on PS3, but it's just a matter of business decisions. Until somebody says OK let's make this happen, we can't say anything."
During his talk, he said: "I don't say the PS3 version is a subject that we're not talking about and we're not really concerned about. But right now we just want to deliver this [the Xbox 360 version] on first quarter of 2012 to be like a really, really, really good polished product."
That date, we couldn't narrow down. "I don't even know what month it's going to be [released]," admitted Bartkowicz.

There's also an interview on RockPaperShotgun. Just some stuff that reinforces the notion that CDP's way of business is dope as shit.
Seriously, who are these fucknuggets that have suggested they release less patches? I guess their idea of supporting your game is like one or two patches plus a dozen paid costume skins or something.
Version 2.0 (Arena, Tutorial, and Dark Difficulty Modes)
Arena - is a new gameplay mode that is separate from the main adventure and narrative of The Witcher 2. In this mode, Geralt
of Rivia duels a variety of foes to the death in a gladiatorial arena located in an unnamed town somewhere in the Northern
Kingdoms. In addition to winning gold and valuable items, players also receive points for their wins. They can then post their
point totals on-line to compare their achievements against those of other blood sport enthusiasts around the world. Geralt can
encounter both foes and allies in the arena. He can recruit the latter for a fee to assist him during his most challenging clashes.
To post your point totals to the forum, you must be registered and have a forum account! Register and establish your
account directly through the game launcher or go to www.thewitcher.com. You can then log in to your account via the
launcher.
IMPORTANT: Players using mods to alter their character attributes and statistics will not be able to post their point totals from
the arena to the server. This is a necessary precaution to prevent any attempts at distorting competition or misrepresenting
player achievements.
Tutorial - The game tutorial takes the form of a brief adventure during which players learn how to use a range of game
mechanics and functionalities. Assuming the role of game protagonist Geralt of Rivia, players save a wounded knight named
Bolton of Ironford while learning game controls as well as the basics of combat and alchemy. This transpires step by step as the
tutorial guides players through a series of minor missions. Upon completion, based on demonstrated abilities, the tutorial
recommends the difficulty level which the player should choose in embarking on the main adventure of The Witcher 2.
Dark Difficulty - The „Dark‟ difficulty setting is the most demanding difficulty level in gameplay terms. Under this setting, each
and every foe represents a significant challenge. In addition to raising the difficulty bar, the module includes several new sets of
equipment/items that are linked through a dark legend detailed in the Journal. Once all their components have been collected
and donned, the Blasphemer‟s, Oathbreaker‟s and Kinslayer‟s outfits provide great advantages in combat. The swords included
in the outfits strip opponents of Vitality while supplementing the witcher‟s. However, given that they are cursed, the swords
provide no benefit and harm Geralt by sapping him of Vitality as long as the outfits to which they belong remain incomplete.
Version 2.0 Corrections/Amendments
Corrections and improvements to combat:
1. Numerous improvements have been made in the targeting system.
2. Parrying is now unlimited (even when Vigor is completely depleted), though parries no longer cancel all damage
(maximum 50% reduction once the relevant ability has been acquired).
3. Responsiveness of game controls has been improved. This includes but is not limited to casting Signs, parrying,
and attacking immediately after evading an opponent‟s assault.
4. Geralt‟s attacks are no longer interrupted by attacking opponents. Attacks are now contiguous and foes cannot
interrupt Geralt‟s attacks by landing a blow.
5. Assorted fixes now prevent opponents from incessantly attacking Geralt after he has been knocked down. Geralt
can no longer be knocked down repeatedly in quick succession. Also, he rises quickly while evading subsequent
attacks.
6. Geralt no longer attacks opponents located behind other opponents positioned nearer to him.
7. The target locking system has been improved. Preference is now given to previously highlighted targets.
8. Target selection has been improved. Priority is now given to foes affected by a critical effect facilitating the
completion of a finishing move.
9. The additional two steps Geralt took after mounting an attack with the W, S, A or D key depressed have been
eliminated.
10. Attacks can now be continued even when a key controlling Geralt‟s movement (e.g. W, S, A, D) is depressed.
11. Attacks can now be continued if the attack key is depressed immediately after the final strike of an attack animation
sequence.
12. Geralt can now pivot 180 degrees immediately after completing an attack.
13. Assorted problems with key responsiveness have been resolved. Keys no longer need to be depressed twice or
more to trigger a given action.
14. A distance attack problem has been resolved. Geralt now mounts distance attacks (lunge with sword in hand in the
Fast style) when opponents were located at a suitable distance from him.
Other corrections and amendments:
15. Casting several bombs no longer blocks further inputs.
16. An option has been added to the configuration tool enabling aspect ratio to be set independently of resolution.
17. The amount of disk space required for game patching has been reduced.
18. The loading of selected Witcher 1 game saves no longer causes the game to crash.
19. A greater number of monsters now appear in the cave leading to Loc Muinne.
20. Improvements have been made in the manner in which monsters are spawned in the mist in Chapter 2.
21. The visual effect accompanying Adrenaline use no longer disappears prematurely.
22. Archers now draw their swords more quickly when Geralt approaches.
23. Mages no longer automatically cast shield spells when Geralt casts daggers at them.
24. The game is now paused when Geralt executes a finishing move in combat.
25. The troll in Chapter 2 has been corrected. Previously, in some circumstances he could not be attacked.
26. Physics on cast daggers have been improved.
27. The site for aiming daggers is now more visible.
28. Geralt‟s animation when he dies while casting the Axii Sign has been corrected.
29. An exploit in the fight against Letho has been eliminated. Previously, this foe could be killed by casting bombs in
quick succession.
30. An exploit related to the „Insane‟ difficulty setting has been eliminated. Previously, game saves could be loaded with
difficulty set to this level, which was contrary to design intentions.
31. Camera positioning/operation has been corrected during the boss fight against the kayran.
32. Camera control via gamepads has been improved.
33. Assorted adjustments have been made in mutagen statistics.
34. The „Junk‟ filter in the Inventory has been adjusted to provide for correct item filtering.
35. In the Inventory, the dialogue window warning of prohibited actions has been corrected.
36. Assorted corrections have been introduced to the mini-map in Chapter 1.
37. Audio balance throughout the game has been adjusted.
38. Erratic character teleportation in mini–games has been eliminated.
39. Assorted adjustments have been made in animations applying to nekkers.
40. A minor bug in the “Scent of Incense” quest has been resolved.
41. Numerous minor fixes have been introduced in character lip-sync throughout the game.

Their assessment is quite accurate actually. When Oblivion came out everyone was mad hype for it, but once the dust settled everyone kinda realized it was not that awesome of a game and if it wasn't for the modding community it'd be dead in the water right now.
I meant the games setup,as in visual settings. Sorry! but thats goods to know, I have the same system except a 955. I think I might be doing something wrong.
All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.

edit: oh the 29th, i need to learn to read.
Err... 22nd :P
Now they just need to translate those other ones.
Seriously, who are these fucknuggets that have suggested they release less patches? I guess their idea of supporting your game is like one or two patches plus a dozen paid costume skins or something.
I think I'm gonna have to play this, most of my issues with the combat have been resolved.
