    well yeah.

they're only losing the proceeds from retail sales.

    retail.

i'm betting that their latest steam sale brought in a LOT more.

also, fuck Namco for saying they couldn't patch out the DRM. now we see who it really is (publishers, not developers) who keep pushing for it.

1.3 path is still in the works with no ETA but CDPR has released an early change log. Things I thought were notable are listed below while everything else is under the spoiler tag for length.
    1. New FREE DLC – “A Sackful of Fluff” is a new quest in Chapter 2 of the game. To start the quest, visit the eccentric Elthon, who inhabits a solitary hut near the quarry outside Vergen. The quest will prove most rewarding to those who demonstrate patience.
    2. Game now supports 4:3, 5:4, 16:10 aspect ratios.
    3. Item storage has been added. Players can now store items from their Inventory at inns. To leave items in storage or collect previously stored items, talk to innkeepers.
    4. A „Junk‟ panel has been added to Inventory to provide greater clarity in item classification.
    22. Quen Sign slightly de-buffed – Sign dissipates 20% faster after foes land a blow. Assorted minor balance issues related to this Sign have also been resolved.
    23. Issue with Dragon‟s Dream bombs has been resolved. Damage to bosses from cast daggers has been reduced by one-half.
    19. „Dragon‟ section of Prologue does not become available until after all assault-related sections have been completed, thereby softening the difficulty curve at the start of the game.
    20. During the fight against the kayran, when the bridge collapses, a map pin appears at the end of the bridge to facilitate player navigation and quest completion.
    17. Mutagens are now alchemy ingredients. Minor mutagens drop more frequently than do major mutagens, though the overall mutagen drop rate has been reduced.
    5. New menu option added in „Extras‟ - enables players to view in-game animated sequences (flashbacks, memory flashes, dreams stolen by harpies) outside of the game.
    6. A „Quickload‟ option has been added under the F9 key.
    7. The game's HUD can now be hidden in order to produce HUD-free screenshots! On newly installed game copies, the option to hide/show the HUD is available by default under the 'H' key. Users who have modified the key assignments on their installations should go to the 'Input Settings' dialogue of the Witcher 2 Configuration Tool to assign a key to this option. Please note that the game cannot be played with the HUD hidden.
    8. Issue involving the game not running at 2560x1440 resolution has been resolved.
    9. Issues with nVidia 3D Vision technology have been resolved. Players no longer need to uninstall the related drivers.
    10. Key bindings have been corrected to enable configuration of mouse buttons for use by left-handed players.
    11. Assorted key binding options have been added to facilitate configuration of controls and quick access to various in-game panels.
    12. Issue related to game settings being reset to defaults upon patch installation has been resolved. Patches no longer reset game settings.
    13. The configuration file is no longer over-written when the launcher/configuration tool is patched and over-written.
    14. The launcher now closes while the game is being patched, thus eliminating the resulting game patching error.
    15. The launcher now closes completely and no longer continues to operate in the background.
    16. „Installed game version is invalid or incomplete‟ error in updater when free space on system drive is insufficient – message has been corrected to reflect more accurately the nature of the error.
    18. Corrections have been made in the mutagen drop rate and in Thorak‟s store.
    21. Map pins have been corrected in many quests.
    24. Several optimization improvements have been made in the tavern in Vergen.
    25. Problem with music accompanying „stealth‟ sequences has been resolved.
    26. Issue related to arm wrestling Bart Bargee has been resolved. Players can no longer win coin from this character endlessly.
    27. Option to fist fight woman praying at a statue in Vergen has been deactivated.
    28. Mini-game contestants at one of the in-game taverns now switch positions correctly without blocking one another.
    29. Problem involving Fenn‟s sword in combat has been resolved.
    30. Problems with herbalist‟s gloves have been resolved.
    31. In the Prologue, Geralt retains his steel long sword throughout, i.e., he is no longer automatically equipped with his default sword for the „Assault‟ sequence.
    32. Problem with some nekkers being immortal has been resolved.
    33. Issue with triggered black screens blocking game progress has been resolved.
    34. Interactions no longer appear on nekker nests after these have been destroyed.
    35. The “Scent of Incense” quest no longer shows up as failed after being completed successfully.
    36. Sudden switch to gameplay just prior to cut scene involving Cynthia and Philippa has been eliminated.
    37. Triss, Roche and Iorveth are now de-spawned before the final credits roll.
    38. Guard pacing cycles have been corrected.
    39. The Redanian messenger in Henselt‟s tent can no longer be killed, preventing him from re-spawning.
    40. Elf woman in Vergen no longer strikes a T-pose.
    41. Rotfiends feeding on corpses no longer re-spawn after corpse is burned.
    42. Several fixes have been made in the functioning of in-game populaces.
    43. Numerous problems with cameras in dialogue sequences have been resolved.
    44. Assorted corrections have been made in dialogue sequences (including King Foltest‟s gestures on the town walls in the Prologue).
    45. A progression break in the „In the Claws of Madness‟ quest has been eliminated.

So I finally noticed that my character was not wearing shoes of any kind.

I tried valiantly to rectify this, but cannot find a single shopkeeper in all of Flotsam that sold shoes.

Someone help me on this. I'm a Witcher...not a Hobbit.

Also trying to find silver ore so I can make my Robust Witcher Silver Sword, but have had no luck.

And lastly, does Gerahlt have the libido of a 16 year old? Seems that with every female he talks to he's quickly looking to mash the sex button.

Supposedly he's supposed to have a main girlfriend with Trish and talks about how he'll spend eternity with her, but then recalls another girl he totally ploughed in the same conversation.

Ahah, yeah, I was thinking of just that in fact. I figured I'd cut Bioware some slack since there's some more content beyond just the stash. (Of course, my solution was just to mod one in the party camp and be done with it.)

I have a question about the Nilfgaardian Empire. My only experience with the Witcher universe is Assassins of Kings and my Geralt doesn't really give a fuck about who invades whom. Would it really be so bad if the South conquered the North? Would it affect Geralt in any way?

I was wondering this earlier too. I've read the translated books, and played both games, and I didn't really see an answer. The Nilfgaardian empire seems a little harsher, stricter, maybe life under them would be a little less pleasant (or maybe monsters and bandits would be controlled more effectively and everyone would be happier?), but generally speaking the only interaction anyone's had with them has been during a war, and neither side is particularly pleasant during war.
Maybe it's covered in more detail in the untranslated books, and maybe we'll see more of them during the Witcher 3, but from what I've seen the North had a couple of really bloody fights with Nilfgaard, and they've been at war, to some degree or another, for years, so there's a lot of hatred and violence on each side. If Nilfgaard conquered the North it would be a very bloody conquest, but after that life would probably be about the same.

Seeing as though you guys are discussing specs, how will this play on an i3-2120 (sandybridge), 4gb, ATI 5750 - 512mb? Outputting to a HDTV so I'd prefer to run in either 1080p (1920x1080) or 720p (1280x720 I think).

I know the graphics card is a bit so-so but I don't play much in the way of high performance games really so it's likely not getting updated for a while. I also have another machine (Dual core 2.8ghz, 4gb ram, 1gb hd 4850) in the spare room which I may want to play it on too. Any opinions on that?

    Cheers guys!

In both cases, your processors are more than adequate and your video cards are both subpar.

Edit: Didn't notice the additional page, added the quote for clarification.

So too poor full stop, or too poor to run it at medium settings. I'm not too proud for low ;)

The reason I have sub-par video cards is the machine is by and large a media machine and with my older case I had to keep things cool and low-profile. I've got a much better case now (matx but takes an ATX PSU and has awesome cooling and space for full size cards). I'll be upgrading the GPU in the future, but not cash for a few months at the very least.

You could probably run it on low and do OK. Probably not in 1080p though, if you want a playable framerate. Not entirely sure though.

INcidentally I can get away with 720p and High settings and it runs very smooth (50fps ish). 1080p is playable but does drop to 20fps now and then, so I'll stuck with the lower resolution. Still, it looks stunning.

I'm playing the first Witcher. How do I describe the game to someone who takes Yatzhee too seriously?

I went into a cave, and there's glowing mushrooms and things all over the place, and I can't harvest them. How, in the first village, do I get information on things I can't harvest? I upped my intelligence and already got a ton of updates to the beastiery and stuff.

Also, a lady offered me ass in exchange for flowers. Good deal.

You'll need to get information on them in your journal, which you mostly do by reading books. Try Abigail, the herbalist outside the inn, or the antiquary inside the inn. You can also give stuff to the old ladies around the village and they'll give you information as well.

One of the skill trees has a talent that you must take in order to be able to pick herbs (because apparently Geralt's amnesia was so bad in game #1 that he became completely retarded). After that, buy books and lots of em. Books about monsters, buy em. They're expensive at first but the money you can make on the extra loot you can gather makes up for it.

So. Going through Roche's path for the first time, I was very underwhelmed by the Kaedweni camp, especially in comparison to Vergen. But then I stepped outside and my God, the ravines and grasslands surrounding the camp might just be the most beautiful place to explore in this game. And that's seriously saying something.

Thing is, I kind of hate that sort of thing, takes away from the fun of actually looting stuff. Is it going to stop being useful after Chapter 1 thus letting me enjoy finding new armors? Also is there some list of all the stuff the patches lob into your inventory?

The Blue Stripes Combat Jacket, Mage's Trousers, and Herbalist's Gloves. If you start the game fresh, only the gloves are auto-equipped (since you normally have no gloves). It also adds a bunch of oils, alchemical ingredients, and runes you normally don't start with.

If you really want to make sure you don't get those bonus items for a "cleaner" game start, you can rename the following files in CookedPC in your TW2 directory:
    • alchemy_suit.dzip
    • magical_suit.dzip
    • roche_jacket.dzip
    • swordsman_suit.dzip

The other DLC/preorder items (extra finishers, Troll Trouble, and Mysterious Merchant) are alright to leave alone.
