Only slightly disappointing thing I can think of that is the fact it revealed.....
The other Witcher is not Ciri since it was a man speaking. Of course it might not be a Witcher either, be a hell of a plot twist if it was Death.

Lovin' it! I hope we can do that knife stuff ingame.

    I love Geralts voice actor.

But for some reason I hear something of a Christopher Lambert in his voice, and I just think "I would pay good money for a Connor McCleod voice DLC"

They definitely sound similar. To be honest, kinda glad it's not Ciri since I'd rather not have to deal with a time/space travelling super witch daughter.

Someone recently told me they *fixed the bridge section with the quick time events. This is early in the game. I hit that when I tried playing Witcher 2, and never got past it. Ended up rage quitting and uninstalling the game. If true, it might be time for me to go back and try playing the game.

*in this case, fixed means able for non rabid chipmunks to complete the section.

Q&A with CDPR Game Director, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz:
    1) You compared The Witcher 3 with the Witcher 2 a lot in past few months. But can you tell me which elements you find better in The Witcher 1 compared to The Witcher 2, meaning in which aspects is the original game main inspiration for you while creating The Witcher 3?

It was definitely the feel of the universe the game plays out in. Andrzej Sapkowski, the award-winning novelist who created it, managed to blend some really mature concepts into the fantasy genre. Social inequality, racism, greed, the tragedies that accompany war - it’s all here and, as cruel as it may sound, it was very refreshing for the whole fantasy genre. In terms of our games, this was the common element we wanted to preserve. Also, the character of Geralt - the central point of events - with The Witcher 2 we wanted to concentrate even more on the storytelling aspect, evoke emotions and spin a compelling tale - that’s what The Witcher games are all about.

    2) We have seen 4-5 monster types so far (and there is over 80 of them) and they were all very different and unique, seemed like they are all some sort of boss. Should we expect the same diversity among all monster types (not 5 types of almost same creature) and will there be monsters which respawn after some time so we can kill them over and over until we’ll for example destroy their nest, like in TW2?

We want to separate ourselves from this “boss” connotation. The leshen and fiend are not bosses, they’re just beasts that stomp the grounds of Geralt’s world. A boss is something that waits for you at the end of a corridor, a level or a quest. In The Witcher 3 we have monsters that are tougher and more demanding but you can stumble upon them just by exploring the world. They’re usually connected with the plot but you don’t have to follow the main plot line to meet them. Also, like in every RPG, we’ve got your typical mobs that have various iterations and are not connected with the plot - we think it’s really cool to have variations of monsters - take a young and weaker basilisk and an older and stronger one with visible visual distinctions. It’s natural and players expect it.

    3) Can you specify a bit how will fist fights work this time? Do they work more like standard combat, meaning there is fast and strong attack, block etc.?

This is a very specific question asked well before the premiere of the game - I could give you an answer but it may change a lot by the time we move to gold status so I’d rather not.

    4) Tutorial is a part of the main story in The Witcher 3. Is it possible to turn it off so it don’t bother the player who already understand game mechanics and don’t want to be slowed down by tutorial?

It’s not like that in The Witcher 3. We want to ease gamers in the experience so the tutorial will not be a separate entity and will be integrated in the game in a non-invasive way. We did a lot to smoothen the learning curve in The Witcher 3 - this was something gamers wanted. Additionally, we’ve got a lot of new game mechanics, not seen in previous games. Monster Hunting, just to name one, will be a totally new experience where you find clues and deduct what kind of monster threatens your client. You can treat the E3 demo and what we showed with the leshen as an example. Every monster that can be monster hunted is unique and embedded in the local lore. There new mechanics have to be explained and skipping anything would seriously hamper fun.

    5) In one preview (IGN I believe) they say that the game doesn’t do quest marks in this stage of development. Do you plan to keep this function into the final game and enable players to play with quest marks turned off so they can even more immerse into the game world?

Mind you, we’re in the middle of development - we’re still polishing a lot of stuff in the gameplay department and many decisions need to be made. Much can change until the launch of the game. Having said that, Wild Hunt an enormous game - running around without quest markers would be very tiring for most gamers. Do you imagine a 100 hour gameplay experience in a world 35 times bigger than in The Witcher 2 without any sort of aid?

    6) We have seen a bit of The Witcher 3 footage at Nvidia presentation on E3 – is the graphic shown there representation of what you are targeting in the final game or only the current state of graphic so it will yet improve significantly in the future?

The year is 2013. We’re launching in 2014. Of course the graphics will be better! Next generation consoles are coming, the PCs are as powerful as ever as well, The Witcher 3 is going to look stunning!

    7) PC and consoles are going to have very different control scheme and UI, grid inventory is making comeback. Will it be possible to play with console UI on PC for the gamers playing with gamepads?

That’s a question I can’t answer right now - we’re still experimenting with a lot of solutions at the moment.

8.) You told that you cooperate with the same composers of the game soundtrack as in the past – is Pawel Blaszczak, composer of The Witcher 1 soundtrack, one of them?

No, Paweł Błaszczak is not one of them. The Witcher 3 musical score is composed entirely by our internal team - we’ve been shifting the focus of developing sound and music to our own facilities. This helps a lot in terms of production planning and so on.

    9) At E3 we have seen the first gameplay trailer – is all the footage contained in it from the new renderer or it’s mixed? And one bonus question - is the naiad (or whatever creature it is) in the trailer supposed to be covered by leaves etc. in the final game or it’s like that only in terms of the trailer?

Our renderer is being constantly updated and polished to shine - what you saw at E3 was the June iteration, expect progress as we move along down the calendar.
As for the second part of the question, it depends on the region the game will be published - some countries don’t allow exposed breasts / visible nipples etc.

    10) Alchemy in The Witcher 1 contained potion base (alcohol) and additional substances (Albedo, Rubedo, Nigredo) – do you plan to re-introduce anything like this in The Witcher 3?

The alchemy system is totally revamped but it’s too soon for details.

    11) First Witcher game contained system of gifts, food and drink – especially gifts were very interesting system. As well there was drinking mini-game and movement of drunk Geralt is unforgettable. Will we see these systems in The Witcher 3 again?

It’s too early to answer these questions at this stage of development. Ask us again when we get closer to the launch window.

    12) Is Geralt supposed to have such narrow hips as we saw in current footage (never had them like this before) and will horses have bridles in the final game, like we saw in the CGI shots of the trailer?

Everything you saw in that footage was work in progress. As with all work in progress footage, it’s subject to change. Geralt’s model, as well as the horses, is not final.

    13) Any chance of seeing or learning about some races described in Sapkowski’s books which were not present in games before, such as Bobolaks?

Both the leshen and fiend are new additions to the game - they were not present in the previous installments of The Witcher. As for other surprises, stay tuned!

    14) Will the game be influenced by any decisions from The Witcher 1?

Well, in fact, the decisions from The Witcher 1 influenced game events from The Witcher 2. The ones from TW2, will be reflected in TW3 - it’s logical and consequent. We can’t get into greater detail about that because of spoiler reasons.

    15) I know you don’t want to specify when the game will be released, but on English Eurogamer was written and one of your developers told few months before that it will be out in Q4/Fall 2014. Is that the time which is currently the most probable?

We’re launching when we’re ready. 2014 is the only thing you’ll get from me!

    Geralt is certainly looking older.

I actually like the fact that he's aging over the course of the series. Most series tend to keep the protagonist as they've always been, here you can see the effect of years on him. And I suspect that that weariness will come into his character as well.

You are obviously looking at these pictures with a different set of expectations to me because the first picture I saw was a bright green field with flowers and a daytime sun shining down upon this picturesque woodland scene that happened to have a Witcher and a beastie tearing each other to bits in the middle of it.

There isn't a lack of color in any of those assets, but there is a definite screenwide blue-gray tint going on, which is what he's referring to. It's not as egregious as the blue filter that Skyrim uses, but it's reminiscent of it, and probably intentionally so.

I wonder how much of that is simply due to the game not being done. Could be they're using the same environmental lighting filters for all the pre-release screenshots.

Man I'm hunting nekkers and this is not like hunting nekkers I remember from last time. The forest is so full of life and color and mist and shadow that I found it really difficult to see when an enemy is coming at me until they're almost on me.

    It's amazing.

Also I can downsample this game (it's less performance hit than ubersampling, which I can also do) but I decided not to since it dips below 60fps (the highest downsampling resolution I tried hit 27 at times) and I prefer a straight capped unchanging 60fps over everything else. Also it has input lag, which I'm very sensitive to.
    But no worries.
    It's still drop dead gorgeous.
