I read that the iron boots don't slow your movement down anymore. I don't know how I feel about that.
Judge for yourself They're as slow as ever above water, and don't slow you down underwater. I think this was another Water Temple concession, along with coloured lines that show where you can change the water level.
It might seem stupid now, but I do recall that I actually stopped playing Ocarina for a good few months because of the Water Temple. Didn't annoy me much, but it was a major bump in the flow of the game - and I can imagine Nintendo wanting to make things as smooth as possible for new players. My mum's a massive fan of every 2D Zelda game, but has never played a 3D one before, and I'm thankful for anything that makes the experience more approachable!
I don't remember there was that much running around underwater. Most of the headaches occurred remembering all the bloody switches and rooms, since the dungeon is sort of symmetrical. It's not a big deal, but I found Link slogging around charming in a way. Wait a minute... coloured lines that show where you can change the water level? That's going a bit too far.
OoT Water Temple was never a problem to me either. It was just long. Even the Dark Link battle becomes a cakewalk when you realize you can use Din's Fire (I wouldn't be surprised if they take that out).
I've played with the 3DS in Best Buy and it seems like having the 3D ability turned on makes me ill. With that being said, is there a reason to drop money on this when I'd be using it with 3D off 99% of the time? There are starting to be exclusives released that I'd like to play, but I'm having a real hard time with dropping $250 for this baby since it seems like I'll never be able to fully use it.
Is that the Pilotwings demo? It's a bit tough to really gauge the 3D strength from that one, as 1) Pilotwings is particularly "tough" to adjust to with how the 3D is implemented, and 2) the demo kiosk setup is pretty jank and uncomfortable. There's definitely an adjustment period/learning curve to your eyes adjusting to 3D; when I started playing Pilotwings, I had to keep the 3D on barely-above-off, but by the end of my tenure with it I was playing mostly at full 3D focus.
I can't really tell you whether the system is worth the scratch right now, but IMHO a lack of the 3D capability wouldn't change my own perception of the 3DS. The games are still going to be good, regardless of 2D or 3D, and I don't have all that many games (only SSFIV, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, and now Link's Awakening on VC), but most of my time has been in 2D mode, due a lot to how I dislike losing the 3D sweet spot in SSFIV because of how twitchy the game is.
The 3D was never really a draw for me, though, so I think my perspective is a little left of center.
So hey, can anyone here forward me some contact information for Nintendo Corporate? Because dealing with customer support just is not cutting it anymore. I just received my "Advance Replacement" 3DS, fresh from Nintendo. At first I thought everything looked great, then I noticed the bottom screen looking slightly crooked but not entirely worrisome. Then, just a few minutes ago I left mine on my desk while I went to get a drink of water, and when I got back, THIS happened:
Seriously. I just got this thing in today. Haven't even taken the original one to UPS to have it shipped back to them so they can do whatever it is going to do in heaven. This will make the 4th 3DS I have gone through with Nintendo if i'm recalling correctly. The failure rate of systems I am getting from them is astronomical. I was hoping to be set for OoT this weekend, but it looks like thanks to Nintendo's inability to give me a system that is not fucked up, I cannot enjoy the game I have paid in full and been waiting for, on the system I have been dying to use and haven't because they all are fucking lemons.
Please, if someone can help me out here or give me some advice, I would greatly appreciate it. I just want to be able to use the system I blew $250 on, and I feel that I am constantly getting the shaft. I need to talk to someone at Nintendo and have them understand that this shit just cannot fly anymore.
Ouch.
Jeez, all I have are contacts for third-party PR flaks (which everyone else probably has, too). At this point, your best bet to get noticed by NOA (A, right? Not E or J?) might be to just organize all your data and try to get a story about it published by a gaming/tech blog.

Yeah - I was fortunate enough to try out several games on an unfettered system a few weeks before launch, and so I was able to properly gauge my reaction to several games. The 'strength' and comfort of the 3D effect is very game-dependant. Ghost Recon is very easy on the eyes, because everything remains at the same level - you're moving a cursor around a grid with depth, always at a fixed height. Ridge Racer a bit less so, because the terrain is always shifting, but your focal point is fixed. Pilotwings has both extreme depth and frequently has you adjusting your focal point to take in your surroundings, and is therefore the least comfortable to use.
I never had much of a problem with the 3D, but having owned the console since launch I've ceased perceiving it as a 'thing'. I get into the sweet spot automatically, and experience no eye strain even after extended periods - either with contacts or with glasses. That said, a friend of mine just can't see the 3D effect on the console (or in movies), so it's certainly possible.
Whether or not the console's still worth $250 to you is another matter, but the 3D really is a gimmick - nice if you can see and it and like that sort of thing, but completely removed from any discussions of value.

NOA yeah. And I mean, the representatives have been very much a help in the process and getting me situated with repaired/replaced 3DS units. It's just that they seem to be unable to ship me a non-lemon system, when I seem to be the only person out there who has had to put up with this many failures in a row. There's a point where being helpful on the phone and giving me faster shipping options (from two week transfers, to a week long, to 2 day shipping) just isn't enough, and this is it. I need a solution for them to get me a system that won't melt in my hands (not in my mouth), that's all I really want. I've considered writing to the Consumerist about this, since they seem to like these kinds of stories. I just might end up doing so soon.

I think if I were you, and I'd been taking pictures of every lemon system (which you seem to have done) this would be the point where I'd start a tumblr photoblog humorously chronicling every repair fail, then pass the link around to gamer and tech blogs. NOA's like any other company, and their customer service can probably be shamed into giving you a flawness new system as hush money
FYI, for those in the US, supposedly you can get Zelda right now at some Targets according to Neogaf.
I just tried my Target, here's my experience:
I said to the guy at the electronics counter, "Hey, I'm looking for a game but you don't have it on the shelves. Can you check the back for me?"
It was some new kid, so he immediately took me over to his manager who was way too busy for me. I asked him if he could look for "Ocarina of Time", and he said, "Aqua Time? That submarine thing? We got that."
-_-
Basically he just dismissed me after that and refused to look in the back.
Other people have had success though.

Eh, I might have been more interested in trying if this wasn't already just a pretty-fied port of an existing game. As it stands, I've played the game before, I can be a little patient
Does anyone else get rubber marks from the circle pad and does anyone else find that irritating?
Also is it weird to really like the e-shop music?
Yes, I get the circle too. Be wary of Vertical smudges on your top screen that correspond to the raised edges of the touchscreen when closed. They started out as smudges and are now permanent scratches (in the screen protector thank goodness). I actually put some bigger rubber nubs in the top corners to stop the screens from rubbing against each other in my pocket.
Oh crap. Thanks for the warning I see them now. I think I'll have to put a piece of material of something inside when I close it up. Thanks again.

I tried to chronicle the broken pixels systems but they didn't show up in pictures, and I sent my scratched one back so fast I didn't even have time to take a picture. It felt like next day, on the way back to the repair center. I do have the two current messed up systems next to me, the one with the tilted top screen and the new one with the tilted touch screen and the weird glitch up at the top (which is disappearing and reappearing with no set frequency so it is due to get a replacement) and have pictures ready, as well as all of the papers documenting the repairs I had to have done previous to these two systems. I think I should have enough evidence on hand to drum up some attention.
But, I mean I already have been sent a new system by them after I explained that the repairs were just constantly screwing up and that went bad too. :x I need to find a next step, a way to assure that the next one I get won't be a piece of crap. That's why I need big N's attention, not just the support lines.
I just beat Link's Awakening. It was a lot of fun but made me crave a deeper Zelda game. I was ordering off Amazon but that shit was going to take forever. I need this game now!
For anyone that's seen the various screenshots of Cave Story 3D, you need to toss those out of your mind because you can't truly appreciate the game's amazing visual presentation until you've seen it for yourself. Once you witness the game in motion and with the full 3D depth in place, then you'll begin to appreciate just how beautiful the game truly is. Worlds that were once familiar to you from past releases come alive onscreen in a way never before seen. It's like playing a completely new game, and one where you'll catch yourself constantly looking forward to each new area in order to see what visual treat it holds.
Just like the visual makeover, the game is also getting a full audio upgrade compliments of Danny Baranowsky, already well known for his work on Super Meat Boy, and as good as the original tunes from the game were, the new remixes are that much better. While I was only able to hear a couple of tracks, it's perfectly clear that they feature the same attention to detail given the other updated facets of the game and really compliment the game's highly upgraded presentation.
And by the way, the new music really is quite good:
I need someone to play DOA or SF with rather than random bozos. Someone friend me up sometime for matches!
Add me for DoA.
Done.
I've been doing online matches here and there, but sadly the online has been hit or miss. I normally play Tina but the lag makes it rough since she relies heavily on counters and grabs. At some point I gave up and just went to Jann Lee for the speed factor.

Just got back from Best Buy and got my little brother's graduation gift.
I'd definitely be up for a little Street Fighter after work. I'm not that good or anything, but I'm not absolutely terrible either. No autoblock, though, that shit is lame!

I play it like I play the console, so no worries. Need your 3DS code though?

I don't have it on hand, but it's in SirUltimos' spreadsheet (link in the OP). That's kind of been buried on the first page, though, so maybe I'll get around to putting it in my sig... eventually...
Alright, I'm back from work. Friend code is in my sig for easy reference. I'll put up a SSF4 room for a while if you still want to play, Masume (or anyone else).

Did I get the ability to fly? No. I can just beat a Zelda temple other people have problems with.
