So what's the rationale for aug/med addictions in Human Revolution? I love the anti-corporation message, but the idea it seems almost an evolution of Zyme from DE1, and doesn't seem like it should fit in a prequel. That is, I like the idea, but it feels like a earlier in the timeline but more futuristic type situation.
Unless Zyme is an evolution of "modern" drugs, such that it is the only thing people are addicted to anymore. I seem to remember it explained in DE, but I can't remember who was manufacturing it.
I'd say that by the end of Hong Kong you're halfway through the game.
Don't know about IW, haven't played it in ages.
Nope, I'm an idiot. I didn't even get to Hong Kong. I always quit near the end of the 'Ton Hotel section, which is within the the first 25% of the game, right?

Uh, what? Zyme was a generic stand-in for drugs like cocaine and heroin that had nothing to do with the plot whatsoever. The drug in HR is something augmented people need to take in order to prevent their body from rejecting the augmentations.
I'm about to continue my DE run from July, hope to finish it soon. Has any legitimate news surfaced on the degree of specialization in HR? I saw that multi-solution video posted a few pages back but it didn't really say whether or not it is possible to be a combat beast who never has to stealth, or a stealth ninja who never has to fight (Sniping =/= Combat to me).
There's some slight amounts of mandatory killing (bosses, maybe other situations where you get jumped), and killing everything seems to be a viable character choice (but running in guns blazing seems to be a good way to die quickly, cover is there to be used).

I'd say even less than 25%, but a lot of it depends on how much you explore in each of the levels and on whether you speed up as the game goes on because you start taking the more direct route when you've got the weapons, skills, and augs that let you do that.
The first time in Hell's Kitchen is basically a hub city. If you rush the warehouse mission, you're probably seeing only 15% of the content in that area of the game.

Ha, sounds good. My first exposure to cyberpunk was shadowrun so I have a slight bias toward cybernetic combat gods.

the part of this I'm looking forward to learning is just why (spoilered because of protagonist info)
Adam Jensen doesn't need to take the anti-rejection medication.

My theory (also protag info/speculation):
My guess is that he's probably the first human to undergo a full-body replacement. You don't need to worry about your white blood cells attacking your cyberarm when the only place they still exist in your body is your brain. I also imagine a device to monitor and control his hormone levels so he doesn't go insane comes standard with whatever he's packing.
Adam's Robocop backstory seems to support this - corporations always experiment on their former heads of security/soldiers/police, it's a trope of the genre. The trailer 'ads' that I recall feature some extensive augs but it's still mostly limbs and 'minor' tissue replacements like cybereyes. I don't remember seeing anybody getting the Deluxe package yet. It would also fit with the emphasis they are putting on anti-aug sentiment and rebirth of humanity/transhumanism - they are setting the player up to be in the middle of a very heated conflict in a very major way.
First time playing Deus Ex, and I'm enjoying it a lot. Only thing I get annoyed about is not having enough time to read emails when I hack a computer because my electronics is so low. Need to know what people are saying behind my back.

So is Steam currently the best place to pre-order with the cheapest price? Are there any other pre-order deals I should know about? The Amazon pre-order deal is those 2 weapons, but the fact that they can't be upgraded leads me to believe that they will have diminishing returns as you get later in the game.

While I'm not sure if there are any current coupon codes that can be used on it, GMG has it very slightly cheaper than Steam at 15% off for 42.49

So they are just selling a code to activate on Steam? So should I go for that or the bonus mission for an extra 10 bucks.. =P And what about coupon codes?

Yeah, Deus Ex is Steamworks.
And GMG has had a few coupon codes over the past month or so that would work on Deus Ex, I prepurchased my copy from them for $28.80 for example. Just not sure if there are any currently going on right now, you may want to wait a little longer and see if any pop up, since it shouldn't go off sale until at the very least launch day.
EDIT: If you feel like experimenting, MYVOU-S7XDS-D8OQS might still work for an additional 12% off.

You can skip most of the content in the three hubs. In Paris, you can easily go straight to the club and then to the mansion without going into any of the other buildings.

Wow you lucky bastard. Ok, so what are the odds of it getting any cheaper?

Well, I checked that code real quick and it does still work and will allow you to get it for 37.40 right now.
As for going any cheaper than that? No idea, really. The reason I got it so cheap was that there was not only a 20% coupon code but another promotion for 30% off instead of 15% going on at the same time.
I guess I'm trying to remember how Augs worked in the world of DE. I know aug canisters and "replaceable" augmentations were the new tech, which is why J.C. was the shit and all. Did it make reference to augs being commonplace at all? Seems like it should be an issue in the world of DE as well.

The only people augmented with nanotech were, IIRC
JC, Paul, Walter Simons, and Bob Page
As for mechanical augmentations, there was...
Anna, Gunther, Sam (the UNATCO quartermaster), and tons of various other NPCs like a bodyguard in Paris, a Pimp in Hell's Kitchen, a bartender, a drug dealer in the Brooklyn Bridge, a doorman in Paris, some various security guards...
Basically, I don't think it was necessarily made into a major aspect of the story, but there were mechanically augmented people peppered all around the game

Oh I've never used GMG before I know sometimes sites like it have a first time buyer deal, like your first purchase is X% off. Do they have something like that I could use to get a better deal?
Green Man Gaming has a referall system, if you sign up under someone's link and spend money you get 5 dollars credit and so does the other person. Haven't really messed with it before. So not really a better deal for now but could use toward something else in the future or buy some cheap indie game.

No.

Can you cancel pre-orders on GMG? I mean do they wait till the release date to put the order through, or is it instantaneous?
Also, their CC payment system seems to give some people a lot of issues, so I'd suggest using paypal if you do prepurchase from them.
What kind of CC issues? I won't use paypal if I can help it in any way, last time I purchased a game using paypal it took 2 weeks for the payment to go through.

Some CC companies auto-flag it as possibly fraudulent.

I actually couldn't even get their stupid system to accept my card at all, personally.
So when the hell is this coming out? Still says "august" with no date on steam last I checked.
It did that with Alice2 until like 2 days before, so I know it's possible they're just being lazy as all fuck and not (either Square or Steam) and not updating the date until they have to.
Please let it not be a sign the date will be pushed back a month.

August 23rd, not sure why Steam hasn't listed that yet
But we still love the Newell. And thank you, I was getting worried.

The game went gold a few weeks ago. It's coming out.
Someone should probably put that in the OP.

I wanted to get a couple of friends to join GMG through my referral link so that I could save even more money ordering it, but when I go to the referral thingy in the drop down under my screen name there is no link on that page. Do I have to make a first purchase before I even get one?

A prequel was the best and most efficient way to pretend IW never existed for a new Deus Ex game.
