Paul lives if you leave through the front door and dies if you leave through the window - those are the only variables involved. Which sounds crazy when it's laid out baldly like that but in practice I've always felt like it actually works pretty well. I mean, in your case, the MIBs are dead but there are still like twenty guys downstairs, and more coming in through the front door. They always kill me in about five seconds, so I have no trouble believing that they could take Paul.
How did you feel like killing Anna early screwed things up? I mean, if you just leave a LAM waiting for her in the airplane hallway, that is (at least for me) kind of cheap/metagamey, since at that point you don't "know" that you're going to be fighting her. But by the point where she's telling you to leave so she can shoot an unarmed man, I think it's totally reasonable to cap her in the face. In fact, when I learned that I could have done that (instead of turning my back and letting her murder the guy, which is what I did in my first playthrough) I actually felt kind of retroactively guilty about it.
Oh God damnit, so he CAN live? After getting rid of the MIB guys I figured he could handle himself because JC is always blowing through all of his enemies and they're like twins. Is the story significantly changed when Paul lives? Ugh, now I want to go back.
This is kind of the wrong attitude to take. There aren't any right and wrong choices, really, just different options to choose each time you replay the game.
Well, there is one pretty obvious wrong choice during that part of the game. I should know, I made it:
If you accidentally (or on purpose, I guess) shoot Paul while trying to escape the hotel, he will instantly become hostile to you. And then kill you just as instantly with the same plot bullets he uses to one-shot every MIB that gets in his way during that sequence.

I don't think it's wrong to want to take a specific path through the game which I find optimal or preferable. If I have control over the story then I want it to unfold a specific way. The game even facilitates experimentation with quick saving, which I take full advantage of.

I spent awhile trying to get as far as possible before they restrained me and locked me up at the bottom of the MJ12 building. Gunther is a tough son of a bitch and he has that annoying plasma weapon. I am still curious to see how far it's possible to go. I assume they keep ramping up the difficulty. Gunther + Giant Mech + Troopers was a bit much for me.

Bah, I was really hoping that GMG would email me the Steam code upon purchase so I could attach it to my account and let it sit there and stare at me from my library for the next week or so. Oh well.

Story question/niggle for DX1 (spoilers for Hong Kong):
This has always bugged me. Why do you guys think that Maggie Chow sends you to check out the vault in the police station? She says several times, both in the conversation cutscene and in her dialogue barks afterward, that "all the proof you need is in there." And it is, but it's the proof that she's an MJ12 agent! What could she have been trying to accomplish? To get you killed by the cops?

and if you cheat yourself over the walls the park is empty and you can just run around an unlit battery park level. fun to do once, though. same with Liberty Island after its sealed off, its fun to run around. I'm pretty sure there's easter eggs around the place but i dont remember for sure
I never actually killed chow in my first complete playthrough. The second time you meet her, its much easier to sidestep and jump down the hole and leave her to a fiery doom.

I knocked her out with the tranq gun during that fight, then proceeded to drag her unconscious body all the way through the sewers and the waterways to drop her off on her bed at home...I was very determined that day...

Not really in the flesh now, is he.
Damnit Deus Ex keeps turning the screen black and sometimes the audio becomes distorted and I have to restart. I wonder if this is because of the mods.

Really need to stop reading about and watching videos of HR it's just making me want it more without making it release any sooner.
I really hope that somebody says "Adam Jensen, in the flesh" at some point when you go to China.
I hope we get to find Yevgeni.

I don't know why I find this game so compelling. It's definitely flawed, some of it because of design and some just because of age, but I am playing it for hours at a time. That's not something I normally do. I really love the augmentations. I almost feel like I'm cheating.
Been playing the original Deus Ex and I'm surprised at how amusing it is. Though some of the choices are making me a bit paranoid. I've been hoarding experience and right now I'm trying to decide between the Speed Enhancement and Silent Run augmentations. So far I've been playing primarily via stealth, so Silent Running seems like a nice choice, but I've heard some people say Speed Enhancement is pretty nuts and can allow you to move pretty fast via crouching. Any suggestions here?
Oh, and any suggestions on where to put my experience? I've got Computers at Advanced, and Pistol and Rifles at Trained.
I am so pumped for this game, but what store should I buy it from? Are any having midnight releases? I never go to any, but I would just for this magnificent, beautiful game.

GMG is your best bet, it's 15% off and you can apply a 20% off coupon code on top of that.
As for brick and mortar stores?
I don't remember the last time I utilized one of those for video games, even console games.
You would think I'd go grab my GMG referral code with the amount of people I've sent their way, but :effort:

Speed.
Silent running might be good for another run, but speed combined with strength enhancement, regen, and bulletproof makes you Golden Age Superman. Tall building leaps and all.

One nice thing about BioMod is that it fixes Speed vs Silent Run, but yeah, if you crouch walk with Speed Enhancement on I think that's just as good as silent run. As to where to stick experience, most people will tell you that Swimming and Environmental Training are the only useless ones, but I think Environmental Training can be useful.
Swimming blows though.

Oh, I always like pumping melee weapons. Low tech is great if you don't want to kill people.
Meanwhile, if you have the GEP, master level skill in heavy lets you kill anything in one shot.

Absolutely, I suggest using paypal, and just make sure your paypal email precisely matches the email you give GMG, including capitalization
I've made two purchases from them now, and while I had issue the first time because I was trying to use my debit card and also I forgot to capitalize the first letter of my email address, the second time I bought from them was absolutely painless
Ah, thanks for all the tips. I was thinking of putting some points in Heavy Weapons, though I don't have the GEP yet (picked the Sniper at the beginning, which I regret since I've only used it once or twice).
I used PayPal and had 0 problems with GMG. Definitely the route i'd recommend.

People in chat are telling me to just cancel my pre-order and order it again since they won't price adjust their own site. Seeing as pre-orders are fully paid in advance how exactly would I cancel a pre-order on GMG, and if I tried would that get me in some kind of trouble or would they block me for trying to "scam" them some how? I'm not trying to scam anybody, I just want to get the lower price available on their site before the game even comes out.

Oh by the way, regarding Hong Kong, now that I've played more of it:
Yes, the helicopter base thing was pretty weird. The transition was really jarring and the fact that no one came out to meet you was odd as well. Another thing was the VersaLife building where everyone let you roam around wherever you pleased. I was even able to hack security consoles right in front of the guards! I also ducked into ducts in front of people on a regular basis and hacked my way into locked rooms full of valuable augmentations while scientists and guards milled around. And then I find something that refers to something that will obviously become an objective later on and a means of destroying it but the game won't let me breach the door so now after LEAVING I have to go back in and finish the job!
