The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
The Cover Project is a project started by Snowcone, of Snackbar Games, to make replacement covers for games. Ever buy a used game and it came with that awful EBGames cover instead of the regular box? Yeah. Or for older PS1/Dreamcast/whatever games that come in those absurdly fragile jewel cases, or worse, PC games that come in a paper sleeve in a cardboard box.
So, anyway, while the forums were down I had pretty much nothing to do, so I dug up the Official PC Game Template from the EMA's site and starting making PC game covers.
It's still missing Yggdra Union and FFVI for the GBA though. I don't have the proper equipment to make covers, so if any of you guys are up to it... awesome!

I just want to thank everyone who has put work into the Case Project. It's an awesome resource for everyone to use.
Hey guys. So, I lended a pretty large hand to this Cover Project, mostly because I think it's the greatest idea ever; especially for GBA games. I actually created and submitted over 200 covers, mostly for GBA, but also a good number for the N64 section of the project that I started (which, thankfully, most of the CAGers essentially finished).
Anyway, yeah, so it's a great way to store GBA games; or at least the manuals if you keep the games with you all the time. They look great, especially next to your DS collection.
As for the manuals of GBA games, you'll actually need a pocket knife or exacto knife or similar device to cut a small portion of plastic off the top inside part of the case to fit the GBA manuals perfectly; otherwise they fit, abeit with some bending.
With that said, here's some of my personal photos, although outdated (my DS collection is much larger, and I gained a few more GBA games):
Here's an older shot, but it shows my N64 cases:
Also, the site doesn't have Yggdra Union and FFVI Advance? I could do those now, if I can find the proper images.. I'll check.
Also, I hope that the image-linking code works properly.....
I've been making some, and I'm going to make quite a few more, but it takes a while between uploading the cover and it actually showing up on the site.
If there's a GBA cover that you want me to create, and you have access to the box art for scanning, I'll create the actual case (only takes a few minutes) if you can upload and link me to the raw box art scans.
edit:
Holy crap, check out this guy (wshbrngr from the project's forums):
Due to the lack of standardized PC case design (even now, since not everyone does the whole "Games for Windows" thing), I went and made my own PC games template:

Regular DVD:
STACKPAK Case:
The Entertainment Merchants' Association (the organization that standardizes PC game packaging, among other things) standardized a template recently, at least for the US, although only like half the games out there are using it. You might have seen it; it's the one with the alternating horizontal black and grey lines. They've got it as an Adobe Illustrator file on their website, and I've converted to a PNG at 300DPI.
It's designed for those annoying double-wide STACKPaks. I've made a minor modification for a normal-width DVD case.
Ah yes, those. It's mostly split between that, and Games for Windows. To tell you the truth, I think both are ugly :P
It's not the greatest, but at least this way there's a better-than-even chance that if I buy a game, it'll already match my custom covers.
Personally, I liked the old EA template, with just a black bar and PC CD or whatever in big letters, and I guess this new EMA one is close enough.
Also, an advantage of this template: it's exactly as high as the PS2 template, making conversions easy. I had GTA3 and GTAVC covers done in like fifteen minutes after getting the templates ready.
You were pretty monumental in ensuring our ultimate success. We've now got tons of new artwork coming in everyday and 5 people working to keep the site updated. We have a new layout in the pipeline that will hopefully organize the covers a little better.
I'm a sad man. I made these (clickie for large, usable versions):
I've been meaning to do Worms Pinball for a while, but there isn't a large DVD-sized version of the cover, so I'll have to modify the WA cover (they're very similar).
I really wish you could get Ps2 cases that way. It's not so much the memory card slot in the case (really, who needs that) but more the way the disc pops OUT of the case. I think they perfected the best way of not ever scratching the disc, and little chance of breaking it, simply because you never pry the disc out from the side first.
I'd even replace most of my movie cases with those if I could find them without having to buy 100 of them at a time...
Ahhsee on

That Silent Hill one is amazing.
Amazingly terrifying, but I think that's the idea.
While I think the covers are awesome, I'm pretty much deadset on keeping original packaging, so I unfortunately can't make much use of them... the alternate takes on cover design are always interesting to see though.
I found a free DVD (The Terry Fox movie starring that guy who plays Iceman) that my radio station couldn't give away, and it had a white case. 5 minutes on Cover Project and I had a Wii Sports case that is awesome!
Thanks Cover Project!
I would love to do that for all my GBA games, but buying 30 or so blank DS cases doesn't really seem worth it to me. How much are they worth and where can you get them?

They are $7 for 10 from the Nintendo Online store. After shipping I think 30 will set you back about $28 or so.
Snowcone, are you still willing to ship US DS cases to us Europeans? How do you handle payment?
I'm asking now, but I won't have the cash to do it for another couple of weeks, seeing you on the boards just reminded me that I've been meaning to source some.

I still need to upload the ones that I've done. This is my favorite, though I think that ShimSham has a more polished version of it.

Try going to a EB/GameStop and asking if they have any extra white DVD cases.
While they look nice, I don't like how it's hard to fit the GBA manual into a ds case.

I've got a thread on this at TCP, with a few custom covers. Take a look:

Thanks for the props. This was ultimately a community effort and will stay a free community resource as long as I am in-charge.

Thanks. I must replace the awful U.S. Ico and RE4 covers.
Official Wii game disc cases
1 for $1.50
5 for $6.99

10 for $12.99

Which one. My one?
They are called Universal Game Cases and they are sold in packs of 100 I think for about $45.

They try to cram too many ads in that layout. I can't tell what is real and what is an ad.
