FWIW, the latest ESA study shows that the vast majority of gamers (72%) are over 18. If you're regularly shelling out $50-$60 for new games, you can probably afford to pay $15 a month and buy fewer games. Which is what a lot of MMO players tend to do anyway.
Just think! One day, us gamers will be in our forties.
Well, apart from those of us who'll be older. Or dead. Or in vegetative states which some would argue doesn't really count so much anymore but that's totally mean 'cause they can't exactly argue back can they?
I'm choosing to assume that gaming will cease to be hip and cool and that our offspring and escaped medical clones will instead choose to waste their youth playing illicit b-ball underneath hyper-bridges.
I heard about the release date slip yesterday in the Darth Hater podcast. They were reviewing E3 and mentioned that it happened. It was funny to hear them stutter through trying to downplay it. Their argument went along the lines of "this is like the guy in your local gaming store telling you what he thinks the release date will be." No, actually it's not. That's a third party vendor. This is a rep of the company that makes the product to be sold concurrently with the release of the game. Razer is given a date by Bioware so they can prepare their product for release. The rep would have access to that information. One of the Darth Hater guys actually argued that a reason to discredit his slip is because English wasn't the rep's first language. Was pretty funny.
Well Gabe posted his thoughts on TOR. My excitement for the game had been middling as I started to burn out on Star Wars stuff and came to realize the game is still many months away, but damn if Gabe's newspost hasn't got me back to slobbering fanboy status. He pretty much not only confirms that the things I'm excited for are as awesome as I hoped, but also awesome in the particular ways I had hoped. God damn it, Bioware/EA! Confirm the fucking release date!
Yeah, Gabe's post definitely renewed my excitement. I'm glad he chose to talk about some of the "little things" and focus on how the game makes him feel as a player, rather than going on a long rant about his own personal opinions on the state of the game.
He was very wise to mention on several occasions that the game is beta and is changing all the time. Commenting on a lot of the mechanics at this point would be a waste of time.
Love being over-40 and a gamer and I love passing gaming down to my kids. I love sharing games with my kids. They helped me through Portal.
Gabe's review was much like we expected, vague, but with a positive spin.
I think this endorsement will likely grow as we approach launch as well, cause Tycho is gonna dig this game too. He crafts personas in games (or always claims he does) and clearly this game is catered to that type of RPing.
The Gabriel 'review' was a good read. Not much info- though his explanation of the holonet thingy for quests helped me understand what it's all about. Seems very cool. I'm a feeler, so I care more about people's impressions rather than their details, and I was pleased.
Between the patch notes and these impressions from Gabe, I want this game now. I will be so tender with it like it's a broken bird that I nurse back to health through my tears of joy. When it trips or stumbles, trying to fly, I won't judge AT ALL.
That thing about popping in as a holocron to join your party member accepting a quest is fucking awesome. Whenever an MMO brings out a new quality of life improvement like that, it's always such a nice surprise.
I suppose the question is, if 1 player in the group is off doing whatever, is the encounter scaled for 3 players or 4?
I don't think so because if that 4th player is nowhere near you then you can call in a companion to take up the 4th spot and then it would be scaled to 4.
I just finished reading the latest Dev Tracker article from Darth Hate, and I just gotta say: Georg Zoeller is a fucking king at dealing with people on the internet. He handles calmly and thoroughly the kind of stuff that would have me thinking about getting a new job. "These are the idiots I'm trying to entertain?" I'd say, "I'd rather be a mod at the PA forums!"

Right, forgot about that bit. Of course that means small group content is always scaled for 4 people. And that beta tester's comment about needing ~10 extra levels to be able to solo group quests might be pretty close.

I liked everything said there. Especially "we don't really see [grinding] having a place in TOR." I smile every time I hear they've replaced some boring, repetitive, frustrating, or just plain stupid part of previous MMO's with a better alternative. But it makes the wait so much worse.

MMOs got rid of that spawn camping shit years ago though. It's not like TOR is blazing new paths on that account.
Which is what makes the complaints so fucking strange on that board. WTF horrendous 8 year old game do some of these people want TOR to be?

It's fantastic to see someone being that forthright and candid, and I am 100% behind every single point he makes, but on the other hand it really speaks to how sad-sacky the MMO world is that he's having to patiently explain to people that maybe they should just try playing the game instead of poopsocking to level 50.
edit: someone should have told them their email system can't handle 50 million reset requests.

I do, occasionally, like to sit back with a pack of mobs and kill a few for a while just because it doesn't require any further thinking than "Oh, more meat!"
But....I'm glad it's not the most efficient way to play.

(PSN: Morninglord) (Steam: Morninglord) (WiiU: Morninglord22) I like to record and toss up a lot of random gaming videos here.
So Ive been reading the Darth Hater thing, and its been mentioned that theres a chat filter, which is fine, but does anybody know if we'll be able to turn it off? Im not a child, Im not easily offended, and I have the vocabulary of a sailor, I dont want to see #$%^& every time I say something or someone says something to me.
Made up profanity is always, always lame as shit. It feels so hacky and corny.
I'm wondering that if you do power level to the end game, can you go back and do lower level quests? Or because you've pushed the story forward, nnnooooooopeeee.
Also, just skimming through the SWTOR.com forums and man, just as bad as WoW's forums, only in slightly different ways.
I get what people were saying about "half the people there just want to play SWG" or something. It's like the land MMO-progress forgot.
"I hope this game doesn't have any sites telling you how to best set up a character. There shouldn't be a best way to set up a character in this game!"
"This game is totally not gonna be gear dependent like lame-WoW"
"The community is gonna be so perfect and special and friendly"

Hurf a durf, gorram gorram it's so rutting hot in here. That's pretty much the only thing I hated about Firefly. Don't worry, I'm on topic, lightsabers.

So I'd say November 3 or 4.
It's way too far away!

more importantly, nov. 3rd is far too close to finals.
it's been a good run sleep, but i think it's time to part ways.

And then I read the email.
Nope, not beta access, instead my account may have been hacked. Great.

Even real profanity that's just not in use anymore sounds corny and stupid.
Profanity is one of those things you just kinda gotta go with what's actually used right now.
