I went with the CE mostly because I feel as though I may regret it down the line. I may also regret paying $150 for it too. Guess I erred on the side of consumer whoreism.
My trooper is going to kill so many Jedi. So many.
That's..kinda impossible.
In other news, Amazon.de sucks for sending out their codes a day late. Contrary to what some support guy said yesterday, purchase date doesn't matter, the point of time that counts is when you redeem the code. So much for my 7 day headstart I guess.

holy crap that was fast
I got 3 e-mails from EA/Origin just now
1) Thanks for your purchase, based on our supply you have a good chance of getting a pre-order
2) Pre-order Successful here is your key!
3) You've successfully attached your key to your account
so.. yay? Now if only I was in the beta
I think doing the preorder thing before a release date is pretty smart. It gives a lot more flexibility in terms of when you'll need to have servers online. No one can really be sure what demand is until you actually put it up for preorder.
What I would like is to see a preorder beta do is to start off with a stress test over like 3 days fairly early on with everyone taking part. Then you wait a couple of weeks to work on all the stuff that gets broken, wipe from the previous beta, and do it again. Just keep up with the biweekly thing until they find server equilibrium, then they can have a month of beta weekends leading up to release where they don't wipe each test to serve the marketing process as well as doing the patchwork with like a week gap between the last beta test and the headstart. Pretty similar to what Rift did, but with a bigger scale assumption.
ASIDE: The word "impossible" is used an awful lot in Empire Strikes Back. Look it up.
Jedi, sith, what's the difference? They're all a bunch of phallic weapon waving sissy wizards. At least a bounty hunter you can respect as an enemy, because when the day's done and you clock out you know that guy would sit down and have a beer with you and maybe start a fight with that asshole droid across the bar.
A Jedi would just try to read The Watchtower at you.

Ha! Well said! And he'd order some BS bourgeois microbrew and tell you, it had "a hoppy complex texture that was both sublime and fruity". I can't stand intellectual drinkers. Like I'm so impressed you read Gore Vidal while getting snookered on Maker's Mark.
And not only do smugglers by you beer, they also got a line into other fun things. I hear death sticks are a blast in small doses and in pleasant company. All the Jedi has is a well-used library card.
I don't know about you but it's clear to me that the early access is the stress test.
Right before launch isn't the best time for a stress test, as additional equipment or tweaks to the netcode would be hard as hell to implement in a tight time frame.
No matter where you go...there you are. ~ Buckaroo Banzai
So Smugglers are those douchey guys with popped collars and shutter shades that get pukey on Natural Ice?
No, the popped collars are bounty hunters. Bounty hunters are so into popped collars and shots of Jaegermeister. Smugglers are the guys you call when you want good tickets to that bad ass show everyone's talking about. They always got tickets to the game and they drive that car you always wanted, but your girlfriend talked you into the Subaru instead.
Smugglers never put a "Wag More Bark Less" sticker on their car. They don't listen to NPR or Conservative Talk Radio, in fact they think radio is for wimps and then use some bad ass BluTooth connection with 8000 songs on their phone, none of which they paid for.
Only problem with Smugglers are, they steal your women. Hate when that happens.

I agree with this. I think the Beta Test Weekends are stress. It lets them invite a lot of people and gives them the week to fix any problems that arise from the previous weekend.

So it seems like there are going to be two kinds of mentalities when people roll classes:
Those who want to roll Jedi, and those who are bitter at Jedi rollers and want to kill them.

Went and preordered Standard at local Gamestop.
Came home. Find out they forgot the preorder code portion.
Go back to the store later. Get receipt reprinted. Confirmed twice with manager that I've ordered the Standard.
Came home. Entered Code.

There's a general underlying message of incompetence in how the pre-orders are being handled at Gamestop stores. Just check out the megathread on the official forums about it. It seems you've got roughly 25 percent of getting a code, or code for the version you pre-ordered, if you do it in store.
Really, this is to be expected, though. The way store pre-orders are being handled, they're piped through and reliant on underpaid register jockies doing their jobs, who couldn't care less about you getting the bonuses. And the customer service division seems to be split between giving a generic message of "You'll get the code two weeks from release" and "Oh, hey, we have it right here! Enjoy!".
As a hint, the latter response is the correct response. The codes are assigned as pre-orders are made. So if you didn't get a code, and wait until two weeks before release, you most likely will not get a pre-order code at all, unless more codes are released.
Of course, the solution to this is to order online, through an automated service. Gamestop Online works just as well as Amazon, which is out of copies. And as I just received my code and used it properly, I can confirm that it works.

Origin, Amazon, and most of the other US stores are sold out of collectors editions. As far as I know, only Best Buy and Gamestop have copies left. So if you want that option, those are your only choices.
Of course, you could pay $500 for a marked up copy from a third party seller on Amazon. But that's just dumb.

After discussing the matter on the phone with the local manager, I'm still pre-ordered there for the Standard so... I asked them for a Standard code, and they told me they'd GIVEN me the only code they had to give me so "uh... enjoy!" :?

This is a load of bullshit, and that man is either an idiot or a bold faced liar.
The codes are usually printed on the receipt. They get them from a central database which is located somewhere else. He can't run out of codes, because he's not the one distributing them. The way it's set up, the only way they run out of pre-order codes is if the main Gamestop distribution center for them runs out of codes. And since people are still reporting getting their codes, that's not happened yet.
He probably just wanted to end the conversation, and figured you'd take him at face value, or didn't know what he was talking about/didn't want to bother.
Call your local Gamestop customer support division. They can get it sorted out. If they argue with you on that, point that fact out. Or hell, even direct them to the appropriate megathread, or point out that those who ordered it online and offline already have their codes.
Wait, what's the problem here? He redeemed a pre-order code that granted him more stuff. I mean, we could argue about the ethics, but in essence he paid the standard price and got the digital goodies associated with the CE. Sounds like a win to me.

Some MMO's won't let you have the bonuses if you use the wrong code for the version you put in.
If he registers with a standard edition, and uses a CE pre-order code, it may not give him his bonuses.
So in essence, he may end up getting dicked out of the bonuses if he doesn't get it sorted out. At the very least, he can apply two codes just to be safe if he does get it fixed.

Heh, my apologies. Remember though, as I said before, I have a giant KISS poster in my office. I am hardly a steward of good taste. In fact, I am the opposite of it. Which is, I guess, the cabin boy on the HMS Doofus.
So your Maker's Mark and Subaru may be the very epitome of quality lifestyle and sublime taste. I wouldn't know, I'm too busy streaming Motorhead from my BluTooth audio to have any kind of clue as to what is and what is not objectively cool, interesting or tasteful.
As for the redemption of a code, for which you did not pay for. I guess you have to ask yourself if you want to take the gamble. You might win big and have the additional in-game benefits, or your code may simply not work at all. I'd take the gamble, personally. But Archonex is right, in that it might cause you problems. I'd say the chances it causes you problems are low, but there is definitely a risk there of some kind.
