Hmm...so if we pre-order the collector's edition via Gamestop/EB the registration code is supposed to be on the receipt? Because I'm looking at my receipt and not seeing anything that resembles a registration code. Does anyone know if the receipts up here in sunny Canada are printed/handled differently than in the US?

I'm not sure, as their system seems horribly confused right now. I'm going to see about just getting the damned preorder cancelled there and order somewhere else.

Gamestop emails the code to you within 24 hours. I got mine earlier today and have redeemed the code

In the USA, you have to remind the register monkey to print the code on your reciept before the transaction begins. I'm assuming that there are new and unfamiliar extra buttons to press.

Failing that, it is possible for the register monkey to print out another reciept with the code on it.

Thanks. I guess I'll wait and see if it shows up later. If not, maybe I'll give the store a call tomorrow to make sure the email they have is up to date.

    Re: Gamestop online:

I ordered the game about an hour after it went onsale (the hour delay was to convince myself that I could just sell off the statue and make some cash back). Sometime before 2 PM on the 22nd I got my code and updated my status at the TOR website.

IF you don't get your code by Tuesday, I'd say give them a call.

Re: On no longer killing companions:
On one hand this sucks; it's just one less choice we have as a player. On the other hand, it was totally forseeable and understandable. Plus, can you imagine the hissyfit people would throw if in the first expansion/content patch one of the companions had a major role and somebody killed them off. Kinda sad, but ok with this outcome.

    Re: Penny Arcade guild:
Are you guys mostly PM players? I work thirds, so I'm most likely to play after I get off work, in the AM (which makes me perfect for Oceania playtime). I have played/raided WoW at nights, before work, but prefer to play in the morning to let off steam. And yes, morning WoW raiders, especially those who have played since BC, tend to know each other, at least on reputation since it's such a small group.

Yeah man, I only want to play with people who ask questions like "what class has the best story" and "what races have the most opportunity for RP."

I mean it's annoying to see the same questions over and over again, but there's nothing wrong with people wanting to pick a class that's effective in their game role. Who knows how responsive Bioware will be to balance issues, it would suck to pick a "weak" class and have to wait an indeterminate period of time for a balance change. For people who are interested in that sort of thing, anyway.

Min/maxers will exist, you don't have to play with them. Wanting to be effective at the game doesn't automatically make them bad people, though :)

RE: Picking a class based on "what's the best"

Yeah, just beecause some asshole says X is totally OP'd and the best DPS in beta, it's really going to be that way for the life of the game. Not. Nerfs and buffs, friend. Nerfs and buffs. You're better off playing something you like, because the wheel of patching lands on everyone at some point.

One of the top ten, but often overlooked ways, to maximize your enjoyment of a MMO? Never, ever, under any circumstances, visit the official forums. And if you absolutely must dive into that wretched hive of scum and villany, please only read the informational stickies provided by the developers.

EDIT: And since I missed it, the Smuggler is the kind of guy who's banging your girlfriend in the back of his sweet ride, while you drive around in that Subaru she convinced you to get. Then when you find out, she tells you it's because his car is so much cooler than yours. D:

Some of the in-game money related questions were pretty stupid as well, like the one about cash sinks.
Q : It appears to me that BW is trying to use heavy cash sinks & a shared (between factions) economy to keep the economy balanced. From the videos I have seen, it seems things are far too expensive & the mobs drop far to little cash, do you think BW's current sink heavy idea will work? As I believe heavy cash sink economies actually help to sell farmer gold, & actually promotes elite crafting with absolutely unrealistic pricing. So do you think BW's current model will promote the MMO norm of farmer dependency or actually create a balanced game economy?

    Wait, what?

"What's the in-game length of the standard lightsaber? Just wondering how accurate you are, since lightsabers in canon are..."

Guys, I work at a Gamestop and I'll try to help you understand, as best I can, why the in-store preorders are so messed up.

First of all, when the preorders went live on Thursday, the Standard Edition was correctly printing codes on the receipt. However, the CE was not and anyone who preordered a CE during the first couple hours of business probably did not get a code. However, GS corporate did create a bandaid fix for the problem, in the form of a manual sku that employees had to enter on the transaction which would generate a code.

GS corporate sent an email out to all stores instructing them to call all CE preorder customers and offer them a code over the phone. Whether or not this actually happened falls down to the individual stores and whether or not the manager cared enough to do this.

Then for people who preordered after the manual sku option was available, again it falls down to whether or not the employee actually remembered to type in the extra sku. Basically all preorder receipts for a CE should have 2 items on the receipt - a preorder for the game and a sale for an item for a code at $0.00. Again, this falls down to individual employees remembering to enter the sku on the transaction. I consider myself to be a fairly competent employee. I take the time to read all the emails, instructions, and everything and generally I'm well informed on all the shenanigans that are going on. Does that mean I'm perfect? No. Sometimes I forget a code. Not just for this TOR business, but for other games as well. Its because I'm human and humans are prone to make mistakes. Any time GS gives us a manual code to enter, there is always opportunity for error.

But that wasn't the end of the problems GS had with codes. Yesterday morning (Friday) they had a new error in which no codes were printing at all for anything, standard, CE, or anything else entirely. If someone preordered during this window of time in which the system was broken, they did not get a code unless the employees were aware of the fact that codes were not printing and manually entered a sku. However, the sku that was provided to employees was the CE sku from the previous day, which is why you have instances of people preordering a Standard Edition and getting a CE code. Its because this is what the employees had available to them. Is it a sign of incompetence at the store level? No, not really. This is one instance where corporate has to take the blame. Sure, there's plenty of other opportunities to blame underpaid GS employees for other things, but in this one particular instance, if you got a CE code with a SE preorder, you were given what was available.

Now. On to a related topic. These codes are NOT your SE / CE registration codes for your box copy of your game. Your digital goodies are NOT tied to these codes. If you received a CE preorder code for a SE, it isn't gonna get you the mouse droid or anything else, because that's not what these codes are. These codes are for two things: early access to the game, and color crystal which is a preorder bonus for ALL versions of the game. That's it. End of story. You don't get anything else from this code being on your account. The codes which will get you your extra CE goodies will be included inside the box in the form of a different code to enter, or else it will be tied to the serial number of your product when you register your box copy to activate your real account.

CE owners will most likely NOT have access to their CE crap during the early access, because they will not yet own the physical copy of their game, and therefore will not have been able to register their physical CE product to their account.

And in fact, if you are a SE person with a CE code on your account, it likely doesn't matter, because although the codes do differentiate what version of the game you preordered, the actual benefit of the code is exactly the same. Once you register your physical box copy of the game (or digital copy for Origin people), that is when your account will truly be either CE or SE. Just because your account currently says SE or CE preordered doesn't really mean crap, because at this point you haven't bought anything. You haven't registered an actual product at this point. You've only registered a preorder code. So if you are one of the people who preordered a SE and your bioware account says CE preorder, it really doesn't matter. Once you register your box copy of the SE, your account will be correct and you will get all proper items which are due to SE people. Similarly, when you register your box copy of the CE, that is the point in time when your account actually truly becomes a CE account.

It's an MMO. I seriously doubt a sniper class character is going to be able to carry out sniper-y style missions within the confines of an MMO.

Given previous experience with MMO's, I see the Sniper being a charcter with a rifle that does good damage at long range, but will be hindered dealing with anything close-range. Since the typical MMO encounters consist of engaging a target and the target barreling towards you to fight, unless you can actually perform a one-shot-kill sniper style, the class is going to behave in a gimped MMO way.

I picked my starting class based on who had the most utility mechanics I've tended to enjoy in other games. Scoundrel just "fit" me better than the other class combinations.

If it ends up sucking endgame/PVP wise. Whatever. Like other people have mentioned, stuff gets patched/rebalanced all the time.
