Well, mostly. The second episode of the series is reviled by almost everyone (Ryoko and Ayeka defeat the Monster of the Week by singing and dancing on a big ball of string), but after about the halfway point of the series, if you stuck around that long and weren't shooed off by the art style shift, it got better.
But it was still more fun with The Tenchi Reports on the newsgroup, which were posted as each episode of Shin Tenchi was first airing on Toonami.

The biggest letdown for me was the 'second' season of the first Tenchi series. Way to finish the Tokimi arc and ruin the character.
Second, or third? Because, while I haven't watched any Tenchi produced after 1998, I've overheard that the Tokimi arc thing happened in OVA 3. OVA 2 has Tokimi but was starting the character, not finishing it.

OVA3, yes; but OVA1&2 were basically the same series in my book.
Yeah, they came packaged together in this old box:
Release date, June 1st, 1999. The days when anime on DVD was still a newfangled curiosity. What it reminds me of is browsing the anime aisle of VHS tapes at Hollywood Video, and the original Tenchi OVAs (one episode per tape) would be on the shelf facing the window, so the covers would be faded by daily exposure to sunlight.
See, I found Inglorious Bastards disgusting and belittling of the times and the conflict. I probably would say the same about this if I ever saw video of it. So I won't. BTW, who was behind JongIl in the Legend of Kozuchi clip?
I've watched a few episodes of Hetalia and quite liked it. It's quite intriguing to see the axis powers from their perspective; all we ever get here on the allies side is "nazis = evil, end of conversation."
I don't know enough about history to fully appreciate it though; it assumes a level of knowledge and uses that to make references, but doesn't teach anything and can't really be used as an aid for learning. It was too slow paced to hold my interest for more than a few episodes.
There are some people who just shouldn't be touching history in any shape or form. Especially WWII. And especially JAPAN.
Listen to this man.

I would like to pause for a moment, to talk about my penis.
My penis is like a toddler. A toddler—who is a perfectly normal size for his age—on a long road trip to what he thinks is Disney World. My penis is excited because he hasn’t been to Disney World in a long, long time, but remembers a time when he used to go every day. So now the penis toddler is constantly fidgeting, whining “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? How about now? Now? How about... now?”
And Disney World is nowhere in sight.

Also there's no Australia. Bah!
When you look into why Hitler approached Japan as an ally it's kind of funny.
On a base level he was the first Japanophile ever.

Maybe that's why he's an antagonist in so many Japanese games.
Well, I know of two, anyway.
(Persona 2 IS and Operation Darkness)

... because the specific brand of Nazi racism fit perfectly with the Japanese brand of racism?

Two things that should never be mixed. Anime and History.
But then again you should never mix anime with anything.
Cyberpunk's gone pretty well.
What does that have to do with Anime?
Ghost in the Shell, Serial Experiments Lain, and Bubblegum Crisis, to name a few.
It's about 5am here and I have to admit I am a bit high and I completely misread those posts.
I thought you meant that anime was mixed with something and cyberpunk was born from it.
I had this whole argument formulated in my head about how some cyberpunk was definitely influenced by Japan as it was perceived all those years ago, and to an extent still is, but those influences come from the real world not cartoons.
But this argument doesn't exist and I kind of feel bad about it because I wouldn't mind talking about Cyberpunk and certain anime.
Which brings me to another question. How is this thread around with the ban on Anime threads?

I'd like to pretend it just ended on 2's cliffhanger ending.

Wicked City
Outlaw Star
Cowboy Bebop
Ninja Scroll/Ninja Resurrection

something had to be done
still cannot believe the guy is seriously called Dolph
that's like, the name of a cartoon beer
or some sort of cologne for men
shit's ridiculous
you just hated the fact that brandon lee saw ivan drago's junk before you
Not enough if you ask me.
