Yeah, out of all the animated releases, G3.5 was the set most aimed towards very young audiences. They even made a few toddler pony direct-to-video episodes. There was a bit of a tonal shift between then and now.
His leg is pointing AT us...reminds me of a comic with Hawkman and Hawkwoman where they hugged and her right boob was smashed into a way that didn't make sense from our perspective.

I figured it out finally. The problem wasn't his legs but his upper body. With the picture cropped so close, my eye didn't have a good frame of reference for how he was sitting. It looked like he was sitting up straight....which does not work at all with where his legs are located.

Ok, I'll concede that it looks a bit awkward. Here's a new edit with alternate panel 3...

All three ponies you got off of GIS are Generation 3. This chart oversimplifies things, but works as a general guideline.
And as far as the internet interest in them goes, nearly everyone who's not a collector from the old days pays attention to the lower-right box only.

I was reading Trenches. Made this.

My mind cannot make sense of panel three. Is Batman's torso disconnected from his legs?
I am now the guy who knows slightly more than nothing about ponies.
Glad I'm not the only one.
Zut alors!

Love the French jokes Sabre!
I'm going to assume that he's on every map, beating out the theme song.

Very nice, but the silencer is missing
It was just so classy, and subtle, and perfect.
Here is this from that same thread.
