Not being available for PAX itself is very sad. I was going to get a bunch and surprise the people I am meeting there with them. :(

that is is, but we had unofficially decided early on to take the time to find a design most people are happy with, rather than rush through it. Im bummed as well, since I would have like to give Mike & Jerry a coin.

It's one thing to take time and get a good design it's a whole another thing to design by comity ad nauseum to the point things take weeks or months to finish. Challenge coins have been purposed since i think pax east 2010 and things always seem to go down to the wire for minor issues. This years thread was like the rest, honestly i thought you guys would make it this year but sadly i was mistaken. I think you guys have your hearts in the right place but someone needs to take charge and do so early on, have someone set hard dates by when things must be accomplished. Here's to hoping next years goes better.

Disappointing, but I will still order one when they're ready. From this point forward though, we should get proposed designs/ideas out more than 2 months ahead of time, that way we have time to put something together that everybody can agree with, and not worry about being too late. Setting a hard date will be helpful as well.

    ChipIn created. To arms!
By the way, for East 2011, they ramped up production once they determined that they were going to have to fulfill a large order. So the more you order, the more likely they will dedicate more people on the floor to making coins.
slipstream, please remind them of this: If they receive a large order like they did for our East 2011 coin, we expect to receive the same level of consideration we received for the East 2011 endeavor (faster minting). Otherwise, one of their greatest advantages we perceived at the time (expediency) will directly figure into our decision as to who we tap to mint the East 2012 coins.

On the phone he mentioned that production time would depend on quantity ordered, stating 100 would be slower than 500 ect.

Will update the op when I get to a real computer, I don't trust my phone for it, it doesn't like the new forum design.

As much as you want. This has nothing to do with individual coins, this is just donation to get the die cast.

Lovin' the final design, chipped in, and I laugh at your puny human 40-80 hour weeks. Exempt/salaried position = You Stay as Long as it Takes! :P. As long as it pays for my PAX habit, I don't complain much. Plus, just got a promotion and they're hiring like 8 more people for the job I've been doing solo for a year... Madness!

lol, ya got me there, though I run a business from home, so sorta the same :)

On topic - we got about 80 coins on the google form, which means first batch would be around 100 coins to be safe. There is still time to increase this though! Its not final until we collect all the chip-in money. So if you know you want a coin, be sure to get it in the google form! there is no guarantee we will be running a second batch!

Wow. No coins for PAX? That... that sucks. Part of the reason I get the coin in the first place is to show it off to people and have fun with it at PAX. Not getting it during the expo is like competing in the Olympics and getting your medal in a box a few weeks later.

Gotta say, it takes away a lot of the interest I had in the coin.

That just means that planning for the East coin should start like NOW!

Also, if anyone has the original PAX Prime coin from last year, I have 2 extra East coins left to trade. Let me know (I really want a Prime 2010 coin :( ).

A few hundred. The number escapes me right now, and the old spreadsheet is at home.

I see now that the ChipIn has completed. Thank you to all you contributed, you guys have always been an extremely generous bunch, and continue to amaze me! I have just messaged slipstream to inform USCC that I will be paying for the die. Once USCC hears this, I can call and get this part finished.

As for the East 2012 coin: Look for the thread in the weeks following PAX... Since we haven't been able to shake the stigma of delays (this time brought on by less interest than previously), we're going to get the next coin minted right away. I'll be sure to sharpen the spear beforehand by putting together some designs. To that end, I would like to bring on an artist. If anyone here fancies themselves a sketch artist (honestly, all we need is a simple sketch to hand to their artists), your skills can most certainly be used to make the next coin happen. Msg me if you'd like to hop into the East 2012 challenge coin boat. Otherwise, watch for the thread...

Please remember, add your name and number of coins does NOT order your coin. When I have the order URL it will be posted, this is so I know a good estimate to give them when we pay for the die-cast fee.

Looks like we wait for the URL to be posted.

What *does* happen to the dies after we get the initial order of coins? Can USCC just bust out some Prime 2010 coins at a later date?

    why are you smelling it?

If there is sufficient interest in producing another run of Prime 2010 coins, they will probably be willing to produce more. Though realize that our "model" of procurement is very atypical. These guys are accustomed to custom coins being ordered in bulk by one person. They will likely sense enthusiasm for past coins to be relatively light, so it's possible they'd need a firm commitment they can trust in before they produce more (such as an order from one single person saying "I've got this much money; please take it and make me 40 coins").

I'll be keeping an eye out for the coin order form to go up. You can put me down for two, one for me and one for the husband. :)

one concern, i thought we went through someone else for the pax prime 2010 coin (hence why we couldnt get antique brass this year). to USCC wont have the diecast for 2010 prime.

My question was more along the lines of "I've got a cool collectible from Prime 2010 and would prefer that Johnny Come Lately not be able to buy one in 2015." I don't suppose it's possible to get the dies (that you paid for) back from them afterwards, eh?

    why are you smelling it?

Northwest Territorial Mint has dies dating back a hundred years and more. They keep them in case they want to have new coins made. So yeah, they keep them. It might be possible to have the die shipped though, but I don't see the point. I will also not discount the possibility of another run in the future, especially since I haven't determined how I feel about producing another run due to your stated concern, skarsol.

I wonder if you could get the die modified slightly to indicate that it was a reprint or something (tiny R in a blank area, etc). I'd think that would satisfy everyone.

I've only worked with Metal dies a few times ever, but I don't think it's that easy to just modify one. You'd risk destroying it by warping it or the like. It's probably not something they'd want to do.
Which kinda brings up point 2, IANAL but who actually owns the dies? Depending on that it may not even be in the power of the person who actually paid for it to ask for it back. That would have been laid out in the contract for the die I suppose.
(Yes I realize it was paid for by the forums group, but that doesn't stop the company from charging less than it actually costs to make the die, and retaining ownership of it.)
