The Future is Wild on DVD

Awhile back on Discovery (I think) there was an awesome special called "The Future is Wild" which was basically a 90 minute CGI fest of creatures that people imagined could exist in the next 50 to 200 million years. As a complete dork, I ate that shit up.

I'm looking to grab the special on DVD, but I'm facing a bit of an issue. It turns out there are two very different versions of it.

The first is the original british version, which was actually a series of like 13 half hour episodes that apparently has a LOT of scientific talking head bits in-between the CGI of the critters. The second is a condensed 1-shot special that's just the narrated CGI about the creatures, wrapped in a minor story of a future human race sending probes back to old earth.

Now, I'm not against the talking heads per say, but that version of the DVD is like nearly $20 more, and I'm hearing it's a LOT more tell than show. I was wondering if anyone has seen both versions and can tell me how much the British version is split between scientific talking head bits and the CGI portion, and how much the Discovery version condenses the CGI stuff.

I'm also grabbing the "Walking with.." series and Alien Planet. Thought it was a pretty good theme. :D

EVERY BBC produced mini-series like that, I've always gone with the BBC version and never been disappointed. Normally the difference is between narrators, and I swear when Future is Wild came on in the US it was a complete mini-series. Are you sure the DVD version you're looking at isn't a particular episode? I've seen Blue Planet: Seas of Life sold like that.

Nah, reading some reviews on Amazon is where I figured out the difference (I just don't know to what degree).

In the very least there was an initial 84 minute special that had absolutely no talking head spots with scientists and was just the CG stuff. (With a minor plot of mankind sending probes back to old Earth to learn about crap wrapping the various stuff together) I remember it does indeed cover the 50 million, 100 million and 200 million timeframes in that video.

EDIT: Anywho, I'll just grab the american version for now and compare it to the two episodes on Youtube. Worse comes to worse, I'll have a spare DVD to give to someone as a gift :D
