The rumour is apparently true: Team Bondi all assets and IP and be folded into KMM productions, the company owned by Mad Max maker George Miller.
Develop was tipped off by a source who said all staff at Team Bondi had been offered a job within KMM or a severance package.
Whether post-release work will continue on well received crime thriller L.A. Noire was a question refused an answer. Rockstar retains the L.A. Noire IP, Develop noted.
Brendan McNamara, the Team Bondi boss accused of enforcing unfair working practices, is rumoured to be joining KMM. If he does, he'll be reunited with developers who left Team Bondi due to the exhausting conditions before L.A. Noire was completed.
Rumours are also rife that the embattled Sydney, Australia-based Team Bondi had gone bankrupt prior to the KMM deal.
Brendan McNamara was seen touring around the offices of Miller's animation studio Dr D last week. Sources said Team Bondi had been "doomed" by the "scandal" of L.A. Noire's development, and couldn't find another publisher partner, post-Rockstar, to work with.
Rockstar, it was said, had developed "disdain" for Team Bondi during its lengthy relationship as L.A. Noire was made.
Farewell, McNamara.

I should also add that of all the things I've read about it, it doesn't sound more evil than EA and their annual shovelware development.
The lack of a universal standard for active shutter 3D glasses became painfully clear during our 3D TV shootout last year, and gave plenty of reasons for buyers to skip the pricey specs altogether. Nine months later we see that LG has jumped onto passive 3D and CEA is playing catch up on the IR glasses problem, but many of the new HDTVs for 2011 are using Bluetooth technology to keep their glasses in sync -- again without any promise of cross-manufacturer compatibility. A day late and a few dollars short, Panasonic, Sony, Samsung and universal glasses maker XpanD are announcing the "Full HD Glasses Initiative" which should lay down a standard for consumer active shutter glasses to communicate over Bluetooth or IR. The new glasses should be backwards compatible with this year's TVs, although early adopters from 2010 have no such guarantee. The press release (included after the break) indicates we can expect the new models to arrive in 2012, assuming they haven't lost more ground to the FPR army and can still convince buyers to even look at 3D by then.
I'd say the existence of ANY kind of glasses is what's turning people off to 3D, but hey.
An in a sign of how huge/ridiculous this thing has gotten, I give you: Angry Birds baby products.
So I guess this Team Bondi situation means no more L.A Noire DLC, huh.
Glad I didn't buy into that Rockstar Pass thing.
The assholishness, logistic pain involved in the studio closure and the game's lack of profitability doesn't exactly encourage more DLC, no. I'd imagine Take Two wants to wash their hands of the whole thing.
The Rockstar Pass didn't even cover all the DLC, the most recent case file wasn't included with it anyway.
Yes it did. I bought the pass on day 1, and it covered everything. I have all DLC and the pass saved me $4, and would have saved more if I didn't get a case from a preorder bonus.
The pass always stated it only covered up to the reefer madness case. As shitty as Bondi was, the pass was a great value and it spelled out exactly what it covered from day 1.

To be fair, they didn't make that big of deal about the thing. They had a three minute blurb about it during their E3 thing, and that was it. They didn't even really talk too horribly much about it later down the line.
I would say that their WiiSpeak thing was a bigger gaffe.
I don't understand how it can be a gaffe if nobody cared about it. It was mildly intriguing but nobody really asked for it in the first place.
Like if MS was like "hey we're patching the system so that you can use plastic instruments to navigate the main interface more naturally with them" and then never did that update. So?
I stick by the assumption that they did it just to see what lengths everyone else was willing to go to in order to copy their ideas. Ubisoft bit the year after but I don't think their product ever saw the light of day either.
I'd say promising something and never delivering counts as a gaffe. Especially since Nintendo's usually pretty good to not do that (which makes the Vitality Sensor thing stand out even more).

Eh, I'd say if they gave any indication of a timeframe and then totally missed it, *maybe*. But they didn't really, so who knows, they can still deliver it. I don't really see it as a gaffe.
I was going to buy Duke at launch until I played the demo and realized how rough the game actually was, so I canceled my preorder.
I was then going to buy it later, since I figured people wold mod out the really really shitty bits (only two guns, no mighty boot, etc. etc.) but then I saw the "Sorry we got raped" scene and discovered that my skin wasn't quite thick enough to excuse that shit.
After the first 2 million copies of DNF were bought for the sake of remembrance, everyone else listened to the feedback and decided against it. At least that's what I'm going with.

I'm still not seeing much support, though. Japan has barely anything and nothing new has appeared since November of last year. (Except Night of the Sacrifice?)
The balance board is probably entering the realm of Useless Peripheral. Why would the vitality sensor be any better of an idea?
I think that the idea of the vitality sensor is still around, but they realised the proposed implementation wasn't going to work. Now, if the WiiU tablet could detect heart rate without any addons, or a special nunchuck came out that had that ability, that could be something interesting!
As for the facial rig Team Bondi used, as I understand it, it wasn't theirs anyway, they were just borrowing it.

So, shit is going down at the Escapist. A lot of contributors are not being paid as much as they should (or at all), and they appear to be heavily in debt. This has mostly come out as the creators of "Extra Credits" have announced that they're leaving as they haven't been paid in some time. Not only that, but the Escapist is claiming a hefty portion of the money raised to pay for surgery of the artist. To pick out the best parts from the neogaf thread, spoilered because it is lengthy.
Whoah, shit is going down on Twitter. You'll have to read it backwards because I'm not rearranging all of this. :P

Basically, The Escapist hasn't been paying the Extra Credits team, the Extra Credits team has quit and wants their IP back, and now The Escapist feels that they are somehow entitled to 75% of the money they fundraised for Allison's medical bills.
Hey guys. This is Alexander Macris. I'm the publisher. Jame's statements are very one-sided so I think they deserve a response.
Yes, we are having a very unfortunate dispute with James over Extra Credits, and yes, he's planning to leave The Escapist, despite our repeated requests that he stay. It's also true that we fell behind in paying James.
Here are the key facts as I see them:
1. From November 2010 to June 2011, James told us not to worry about paying him and to focus on paying other people. His exact words were "I really don't want to squeeze you guys if you're in a crunch, so you can put us to the bottom of the list for right now..." Given that we have been in a crunch due to the recession, we took him at his word, thanked him profusely for the flexibility, and focused on paying down other debt. (Several other shows were cancelled around November 2010 you'll recall, as we couldn't pay them, but James' flexibility allowed us to keep working with him to promote Extra Credits.)
2. This continued until June 2011, when James emailed us to alert us that he needed funds urgently. The request was partly for family matters and partly for Allison's surgery. He asked for our permission to raise funds through Kickstarter. We more than gave permission, we threw our weight into supporting it. Unfortunately, Kickstarter refused because they don't do charity. I then suggested James try RocketHub and RocketHub agreed. We again collaborated to make it a joint effort. Our agreement was that we would be compensated for the wholesale cost of the t-shirts and Publisher's Club, and that the funds would be used to save Extra Credits. I reasonably interpreted "save Extra Credits" to mean that anything beyond what was needed for Allison's surgery would be used on Extra Credits production. I also Pay-palled James as much money as we had available at that time.
3. After the RocketHub was enormously successful and James had decided to use the funds to create an indie publishing label rather than to "save Extra Credits", James decided he would no longer speak to us directly and instead assigned a "business development manager" to speak to us. James' new business development manager demanded that we assign all the IP of Extra Credits to James.
4. We indicated we would be happy to work out an IP transfer but that before we did that, we would like to make sure we got paid for the wholesale cost of the t-shirts and the Publisher's Club memberships, and that we would like to see the Extra Credits RocketHub money used to create more Extra Credits. We did NOT ask that James send us $9,500 - we said he should use $9,500 to create more episodes of the show that the money was supposed to be used to save.
5. James' business development manager at that time emailed me and told us that his position was now that we had no rights to the show, no deal, and that our entire contract was invalid. This was out of the blue as far as we were concerned. We had no understanding at this time of James' intent to use the "Save Extra Credits" money to start a publishing business.
6. At this point, Russ Pitts, our editor in chief, flew out to meet with James and his business development manager personally. They agreed that we would continue to work together; that we would transfer the IP to James in exchange for some fee to be negotiated; and that James would handle the EC t-shirts directly rather than through us. We agreed to swallow the cost of the Publisher's Club memberships, a few thousand dollars.
7. I then emailed James and his business development manager to explain that I wanted to get them paid as quickly as possible so that the back debt was not a sticking point in negotiations. I then emailed them again to say that I had talked to our Board and investors and that payment would come in about a week.
8. At this point, James had his lawyer send us an email stating that we were in breach and that unless we sent money more quickly than I had just stated we'd be able to send it, that James was terminating his relationship with us. I presume that James thought we were playing games with him, although we were not.
9. We went ahead and mailed James the money we got from our investors the next week as we had promised. James' lawyer nevertheless sent us an email indicating they intended to terminate our agreement.
10. Finally, I should add that as of last week, we had paid James over $14,000 of the $20,000 we owed him, and that as of today, our company has mailed James all payments he is owed.
I have all of this documented extensively in email. James is simply in error if he believes we have ever lied to him or any of his staff. We are prepared to defend ourselves against future defamation in a court of law.
Something tells me this is just the tip of the iceberg, and that Extra Credits are well within their rights to get the fuck away from Escapist. I wonder if they're at least up to date with payments to their big hitters, if they were to lose Yahtzee they'd be done.
But what's this? On the horizon, a glimmer of hope? From the twitter account of one Robert Khoo:
This is at all surprising? Is there even anything on The Escapist site worth watching anymore? Was there ever anything worth watching besides Zero Punctuation? And even then... it got old pretty quickly.
As we all know, Jonas Salk invented money in 1955 so he would have a way to earn a living from his polio vaccine. Before that, people just traded things they found for things that other people had found. So you might "sell" somebody a scrap of carpet, say, in exchange for an old bottle. It was a perfect system with only one drawback: people spent their lives bartering for piles of garbage before dying of polio.
But wait. What if we told you that you could barter for things that weren't garbage, AND not die of polio? Steam Trading Beta lets you securely trade your in-game items for other in-game items from participating games. You can also trade Steam gifts (games on Steam that you've purchased but not yet added to your Games Library).
Want to try it out? In Steam, go to Steam > Settings, and opt into Steam Trading Beta. That's it! Now your Steam Community profile will have an item inventory, and you'll be able to view the item inventories of every public profile in the Steam community.
Now that you've opted into the Trading Beta, you can invite people to trade through Group Chat, and trade with anybody in your Friends List who's also opted in. Just right-click on their name and select "Invite to Trade" from the dropdown menu. Once your friend accepts your offer to trade, a trade window will open up. The first time you open the trade window, a step-by-step walkthrough will guide you through your first trade.
That's it! Opt in and get trading, or surf over to the Trading Beta FAQ for the nuts and bolts. And remember: Trading is still in beta, so don't forget to give us your feedback here on the Forums.
