Wow, that looks really good. Its basically the extended version of what we've already seen, but its still great.
I can't wait for a mod that lets me use two handers with a spell. I don't need to be able to swing and shoot a fireball, but it would be nice to just be able to let go of the grip for a second instead of having to equip/unequip.
Naked elves are important to the lore. And I found the Broski audience hilarious. Its fun to have an unruly audience once in a while, especially if its going to be a demo we've seen before.
As for the demo, not digging the menu system, seems really counter intuitive and unorganised, with the weapons scrolling through them in seemingly any order.
You mean the equip list on the bottom left of the screen brought up via the d-pad? I kept wondering if it was so long because it was a dev build. I know you can bookmark your favorite items, which I'm guessing (and hoping) means only THOSE items will show up in that list.

That's what I thought, and I seem to remember Todd Howard saying something along those lines during the demo. I think the favorites menu in the demo is just really badly organized.

He probably had most of the spells and weapon types in that list so he could scroll through and equip them for demonstration purposes a lot faster than pausing the game to go into a bigger menu system several times.

Download the main package and its patches. Morrowind Overhaul Sounds and Graphics is a simple installer with a very detailed install guide, and is continually being updated. It also launches its own program that allows you to customize exactly what you'll see in the game. You can run that program at any time, choosing different options and applying them without having to start a fresh character. If I don't like the tree option I picked for the Bitter Coast, for instance, I can easily change it.

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a mil.
Score! I came into this thread to ask the exact same question. Does anyone know where else I can find a list of must have mods?
I vaguely recall something about leveling up or skills or something, but since I never had the game before I didn't think to memorize it. I'm sure there's approximately a billion mods out there, so I'd happily jump on any recommendations about the cream of the crop.
Alleges Minecraft-maker Notch on Twitter: “Just got a letter from Bethesda’s lawyers. They claim “Scrolls” infringes on their trademark and everyone will confuse it with Skyrim.”
Does anyone know how much content there's going to be in Skyrim compared to Oblivion? I mean how many hours of gameplay, sidequest, the size of the area etc. I don't mind if it's smaller than Oblivion, I think I played that for at least 150 hours, and I still didn't feel like I saw everything.

Morrowind Overhaul is just graphical and audio mods, and makes the game, naturally, look and sound amazing. The other potential must have mods you may want to download, some of which the Overhaul actually recommend, are:
Better Music System - new music and location based; taverns have their own music, each region, each town, etc
Children of Morrowind
Hold It - some people hold things befitting of their station, and has support for Children of Morrowind and Starfire's NPC Additions
Julan Ashlander Companion - adds a companion to the game with a lot of personality, his own quest, comments on everything from your location to your quest and faction, and is integrated into the main quest instead of just being someone who tags along with you; you'll see this mod on a lot of top ten lists
Less Generic NPCs Compilation - this and the below two make dialog for a lot of NPCs not so, well, generic
Less Generic Bloodmoon
Less Generic Tribunal
Starfire's NPC Additions - adds numerous new NPCs to the game world, mostly in the cities, whereas before you may have thought vanilla Morrowind was too sparse of people; Morrowind Comes Alive is similar and more known, but it apparently has some issues and its added NPCs wear new clothing instead of the vanilla clothing that Starfire's NPCs use, so they stand out like sore thumbs
Tamriel Rebuilt - an entirely new landmass to explore, and coupled with the above overhaul, looks fantastic
Signy Signposts for Tamriel Rebuilt - better quality signposts for Tamriel Rebuilt; Signy Signposts for the vanilla signs is included in the above overhaul
Westly's Master Head Pack - new high quality heads and hairs for the character creator
You'll find those mods in a lot of recommended lists. And I'm sorry I don't have direct links right now. I'm about to go to bed, but I can add them in the morning. None of these change the gameplay in drastic ways.

Area size is same as Oblivion, but there's more content. Less number of dungeons, but every one is hand crafted and better.

I believe they claimed to stop counting after 300 hours. They are claiming the land mass is about the same as Oblivion, but much richer with content.
Of course, the number of hours metric is a massive sliding scale. I find that if most people say a game is 40 hours, I finish it closer to 50. Others finish up in 30. That 20 hour spread is very significant. And when you're talking a scale of 300 hours, that margin for error is significant.
Long story short, if you put 150 hours into Oblivion, it sounds like Skyrim will consume just as much if not more time.

I hear you. The new Fallout games didn't feel nearly as open world as Oblivion, yet I still easily put 80 hours into each of them. That's not even with expansion content. A truly open experience ala Skyrim is going to be a time sink I haven't seen since... well, the summer I lost due to Morrowind.

Deus Ex 3, Red Orchestra 2, Gears of War 3, Rage, Batman AC, Battlefield 3, Skyrim, and the Diablo 3 beta somewhere in there.

I'm kind of skittish about this one, since Cyrodiil in Oblivion had massive glaring issues of scale (geographical scale, that is). The entire province of Cyrodiil in Oblivion had roughly the same in-game "square mileage" as Vvardenfell Island in Morrowind, yet Cyrodiil is supposedly a good three times larger than Vvardenfell.
I hope if they do the actual entire province of Skyrim, they'll give it an appropriate scale and not "Okay I just took off from Solitude and after a brisk five minute jog I'm at Windholm on the other side of the province" like it was in Oblivion.
Or they could just render it all at a realistic scale like in Daggerfall and have it take about a day of real-world time to travel from one city to another on foot. That would be acceptable too. :rotate:

I think they're using a lot of vertical space, too. The mountains look huge and Howard said you can scale them all the way to the top. The key is to keep the environments varied and interesting, which they seem to be from everything I've seen so far. Marshes, forests, mountains, vast countryside, and rivers have been in the few gameplay videos we've seen. Cyrodiil was like... grass fields and trees.
Considering that Cyrodiil was always described, lore-wise, as consisting mainly of jungle (which would've been awesome), lore junkies like me were hit harder than most when Bethsoft wussed out and went the "idyllic rolling hills and swaying birches" route for Oblivion.

The fun thing about TES is that they can make pretty much any significant and nonsensical lore change they want, and when anybody asks, it's DRAGON BREAK DRAGON BREAK LOLZ. IIRC, this particular bit of handwaving involved one of the older emperors deciding that his peoples were undeserving of all the jungle and willing temperate forests into existence.
Prior to Oblivion, and specifically in the Pocket Guide to The Empire,[1] Cyrodiil was described as a vast jungle. Arena's maps of the region with a boreal green, fading into brown in the west and a richer pine green in the southeast, towards Black Marsh.[2] Oblivion, however, found Cyrodiil to be completely lacking in any form of tropical climate. Former game developer Michael Kirkbride wrote a minor text rationalizing the change within the game, wherein Emperor Tiber Septim uses Talos Stormcrown to bring a temperate climate to the region. The Imperial Library refers to the text as a "retcon".[3]
"'You have suffered for me to win this throne, and I see how you hate jungle. Let me show you the power of Talos Stormcrown, born of the North, where my breath is long winter. I breathe now, in royalty, and reshape this land which is mine. I do this for you, Red Legions, for I love you.'"[4]
– From the Many-Headed Talos
I love how Elderscrolls have written in the ability to auto-recon pretty much everything they have seen fit via their lore. I dont quite understand it...like how all possible endings to Daggerfall occured simultaniously etc.
The player character from Morrowind is chillin' somewhere in Akavir. Being the Neveriere and whatnot.
I was reading up on Skyrim a bit, found out you start the game as a prisoner again. Awesome. Criminals have the fucking best times being heroes. I can't even remember how I RP'd my prison sentences for my characters in Oblivion. Disorderly drunkenness?
Also discovered that apparently after Martin dies the whole Imperial Empire just fucking collapses. Your best bud in Skyrim is Esbern, a former Blade who fucking fled the massive civil wars and shit that went down. Also Morrowind blew up and everyone there is dead and the Argonians and Khajit are now pretty much fucking up what's left of the Dark Elves.
I mean what the heck.

It's been said a thousand times, but Oblivion's world was physically larger than Morrowind's. The only reason it didn't seem like it is because you could only move artificially slowly in Morrowind.

Luckily for me I never had one to begin with.
And my attempts to quash my anxiety problems are gonna be ruined. Thank God for fast food delivery!
So I really want to use a wireless 360 controller with Oblivion, but I've had several problems doing so.
The biggest issue is with the left analog stick; the game hangs on the left input of the stick, which means my character will keep moving to the left even when I'm not holding down the analog stick. This same problem happens with Alpha Protocol, so I guess it's an issue with Bethesda's engine.
I've tried to use Xpadder to just map the keys on the controller, but the analog problem still persists. I can't find any way to disable controller input from the game.
Alternatively, a non-360 controller doesn't have this issue, so I could stick with that. The only other issue is that it's been a while since I've played this game on PC, so I've forgotten how to map everything I want onto the controller; every key, every button, right analog for camera, etc.
So long story short, what's the easiest way to get a controller working with this game, 360 controller or otherwise? I would prefer using a 360 controller, but if there's no way to fix that analog issue, then I don't mind using an alternative.
And please no keyboard/controller debates. I have a big TV and spent countless hours getting Oblivion to look pretty (more on that later). I want to sit back and enjoy the rapidly-aging engine for all it's worth.

I used xpadder for awhile with a non 360 controller and still had the drifting issue that seems to exist in all of the gamebryo games. I don't think you can avoid it.
It's a PS2 controller I use through a USB adapter so it shares the same button count as the 360 controller. I just found an online manual for the 360 version of Oblivion and mapped it identically and had access to everything that you would playing on a console.
In the end though I just felt clunky so I just went back to kbam. Does Oblivon work natively with a 360 controller on the PC? If so I'd
imagine that'd work a lot better. Something about the way xpadder sends info works fine for most games but just feels off here IMO. I was expecting it to control like Fallout 3/NV does on the 360 but it just didn't.
This probably doesn't help at all; but my best advice if you really want it is to do what i did with mapping the keys just like it is on the 360; regardless of what controller you use. If the game handles the 360 controller better, then go with that one; because at least in my experience you're going to get that drifting no matter what.
EDIT: To clarify my stance on the drifting things, it happened to me on the PC oblivion and it happens to me in the 360 FO3 and NV, different controllers, no issues in any other games with said controllers.
