Someone said a million pages back (YESTERDAY, JESUS PEOPLE), X3 was okay. Anyone else think it's passable or a good one?
X3:TC is a fantastic game if you're willing to put time into learning it. The learning curve is usually referred to as a cliff. You can do pretty much anything from darting around in speedy fighters, piloting huge transports or commanding fleets. There's a thread around here somewhere with some great info on the game.

Joystick or no joystick? Usually when I see space controls I go Joystick but if this game features hauling missions or plays anything like Eve I may not take the time to get out my trusty friend.

I play with mouse, but only really because I don't have a working stick currently. It controls fine either way, but you'll still end up using KBAM a lot for shortcuts and menu navigation.
Holy God this Defense Grid achievement is going to take forever. Seems easy enough though.
It is pretty easy. I actually did it just for the heck of it yesterday when I noticed there was a new achievement
What does it entail? I am redownloading Defense Grid right now.
5 different levels have a challenge mode to win the map without guns or cannons. So you basically end up playing a good chunk of the game's storyline.
Ah, there was a recent update, I guess for the summer sale, on which the maps and modes have all been unlocked by default, so you can just search the maps that have the challenge.

It's purely KBAM. You spend more time in menus than piloting, generally. It's also really really damn good. You can ignore the earlier games in the series and just pick up Terran Conflict. Then check out the X series thread for some modding/starting suggestions.

I realized i didn't give an end time for contest entry so lets say by 3 pm pst today so in like 3 hours from this post. I also have a defense grid to give away tonight so stay tuned for the next contest.
Hmmm I tried to buy assbro and two worlds 2 at the recommendation of this thread but steam is still showing me yesterdays sales and stuff, even after a reboot of steam and the PC. Is anyone else experiencing this issue it is pissing me of I want more assassin story!?
every steam sale i see tropico on sale and every time i pass. i just don't know if its something i would play. defense grid also sounds appealing but i tend to get bored of tower defense really easily.

Nice to see Defense Grid get an achievement for the sale. I was just playing this morning. I guess now I'll take a step back from the C.H.A.S. levels and play those 5. I favor guns pretty heavily so that should be a fun achievement to go after.

I'm gonna give this another try. I have extra copies of the following Valve games and I'd like to trade a number of them for Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Deluxe. Both because I'm not entirely happy with the regional pricing and because it's nice if I can use something I already have to get it without spending money myself.
Half-Life: Source
Half-Life 2 x2
Counter-Strike: Source
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch
Half-Life 2: Episode One x2
Half-Life 2: Episode Two
Team Fortress 2
Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead 2
Portal x2
Portal 2
Yes, I realize TF2 is free, but it should still be good for upgrading to premium.
Man, I had to leave for work right before the new sale, so I haven't been able to examine some of the games I'm not super familiar with. Steam really needs an app.
Also, given I bought Civ IV when it was on sale, I'm guessing I don't really need Tropico, despite all the good things I've heard.
As for Ass:Bro, thats tempting, but I have the other two on console, so I'd have to buy them aaallll, and that feels like a bit much.

I've given up trying to trade Torchlight for a Just Cause 2.
Somoeone compared Tropico to Evil Genius, so now my money is wavering between buying that or Torchlight today. Hrmmmmm.
I was about to make this easier for you, but it seems I took too long!

The Iron Grip achievement was easy to get... considering that for some reason the game didn't load the textures (all looked like a Tron game) and I couldn't see any of the enemies (the were all invisible).
Just start a single player game a set the lowest difficulty level. It took me no more than 30 minutes so if the game works correctly for you it should take you even less time.
I loved the Men of War games, but I heard this one is multiplayer oriented. Would it be worth it for singleplayer? Its not that i don't like playing online, its just that it would be impossible to find a game here in Asia.
Yeah, I think it'd still be worth it for the single player. It is tougher, though, cause you have all that to micromanage, but it is designed to be possible to play that way.
Anyone have anymore suggestions for Builders, Space Sims, Strategy games? Coop options preferred.
I bought so far:
Assualt squad
Delve Deeper
Star Ruler
Stronghold pack (<3, harder than i thought).
Someone said a million pages back (YESTERDAY, JESUS PEOPLE), X3 was okay. Anyone else think it's passable or a good one?
Sword of the Stars (Space 4x Strategy w/ coop vs AI)
Supreme Commander 2 (RTS w/ coop vs AI)
AI War (Space 4x specifically built coop only)
Nexus: The Jupiter Incident (Space RTS, pretty cool. no coop)
Shogun 2 (Empire builder and RTS, has coop, I'd probably hold off, though, unless it's in a daily recap sale)
Tropico 3 (Builder, no coop)
I'm guessing you probably already have some of these, though.
X3 is very good, but it has a pretty steep learning curve, so I guess the question is do you think you can manage to get past the learning curve?
Thank you, got the first 2 and Tropico 3. Probably will pass on nexus and shogun, I just can't pull the trigger on $30 game right now, 6 month olds are expensive.. Thanks for serving the newells wallet. AI War looks like a buy.

You know, I should take my complete failure at trying to gift games to people as an indicator to give up for now.
There are people with extra copies of Portal 2 sitting around? That makes my broke ass sad.
You're telling me. I bought the $80 2-pack for a friend and me, I didn't get a return on that copy, and then I was gifted a copy of Portal 2 for the Potato Sack stuff.
There's this feeling that my five dollars have been well-spent.
Just don't mind the first boss, its the hardest thing in the entire game. Get past that and you'll have a lot of fun if you are into Zelda/God of War/Metroid style games.
You mean the big demon whose head you have to chuck cars at in order to slice his fat face?
I killed him on the first try. Do you mean another boss later on?
I think I'll make it out alive today. Only thing on my radar right now is Tropico 3, which I gifted to someone, but debating on getting a copy for myself now. Decisions... I'll the Flight HD cheevo while I think on it some more.

I have owned a copy of X3:TC for almost two years and I played it a total of about 90 minutes before deciding I didn't have the time to invest in something so involved (was at school at the time).
I am no longer at school, but I am always too intimidated to reinstall it. And nothing I have read about it here is helping me with that.
It's really easy to do, just reach stage 3, you will eventually reach a large area with three Bomber Hives, you will enter from the right door, right next to the left door to leave the room a Walker will spawn, you will need to make the closest bomber hive shoot it's bombers to the walker, the bombers kind of float around until they see you then shoot themselves in a straight line to hit you.
So you have to kite the walker and the bombers so the bombers hit the walker, also, I guess you could shoot the walker a bit to drain it's hp and let the bomber finish the job, but I played it safe and let the bombers do all the job, had to take several energy tanks though.
Reposting this in case people didn't read it before, so they don't "waste" time playing all the maps (which you should do, because the game is awesome).

My back-log is now officially back-breaking.

I will accept these terms if you make sure to give him the flaw of "Flatulence."

A search indicates you can only gift extra copies from certain packs, and that AC isn't one of them.
Too bad, I wouldn't mind an extra copy of 2.
Still keeping an eye to see if AssBro comes up in someone's contest/giveaway.

Ahh, Independence War style. I got my hopes up when I fired it up for a few minutes and saw a centered crosshair.

Yeah I can't really see myself buying the pack, or the game itself alone when I could two others for less than that. AssBro, you gotta wait son.
Now it's just a matter of convincing myself I don't need Two Worlds 2 or K&L2, easily done. Just gotta look at the ol' backlog
I believe joysticks work fine with X3, though I've never tried it myself. You'll just be switching back to your mouse a lot for menus.
I tried to gift Tropico to you but an unexpected error occured

Oh, ok, no worries. I just saw Last Prophet's post too, so it looks like something's just broke.

*ahem* Portal 2 = AssBro Deluxe...
Giving up failing is an excellent strategy. Now get gifting!

Actually I have to go take care of some work and then serve one of the other members of the Triumvirate that owns my soul, Hasbro.
