I walk to and from work. It's about one mile each way, so I walk a minimum of two miles per workday. The soles of my current shoes are starting to wear through. I need new shoes which are:
1) Appropriate for a guy to wear in a casual office environment
2) Reasonably comfortable for walking two miles each day
3) A good value in terms of cost vs. how long they will last
Point number 3 above is the one I need the most help with. I'd like to buy a pair of shoes that will last for a very long time, but I really have no idea what brands are good in this regard. Please advise.
No dress shoe will every be comfortable for a 2 mile walk. Tolerable, maybe.
Mephistos aren't bad.
Personally I would say buy some good walking boots, and change shoes at work. My Keens have held up well in every type of weather and are extraordinarilly comfortable.

Casual like business casual or casual like you can wear whatever?
If the latter, or you are open to the changing-shoes idea, I looove Asics Onitsuke Tiger. They are super comfortable, have lasted me years and years, and can be had in the 50$ to 80$ range. IIRC they were originally designed for olympic runners? Anyhow - great support and comfort.
Mine were from zappos.com, and ironically I've been looking at getting another pair just this week, AND my friend just linked me to this Urban Outfitters sale on Asics:
2 pairs of shoes is a great investment. It's a bigger cost at first but then your shoes will last longer, especially your office shoes as they won't have to suffer bad weather and won't be used to walk that much.
Sneakers to work and office shoes at the office is what I did when I was in this situation. It's much easier on your feet, and your possibly expensive dress shoes last much longer.
That being said if you're happy with your current shoes, having them re-soled is probably less expensive than buying new ones.
Eat it You Nasty Pig. on
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
Ecco. Not cheap but the quality is great and they offer great comfort with office looks.
Though I was very disappointed with my last pair of Eccos, the two pairs before that lasted me seven years in total. I'd still recommend them to anyone.
Rockports. They are extremely comfortable, last forever, and many of the styles look good in casual environments with jeans, or business casual with khakis. My current pair is 2 years old and are still in great shape, and these are the ones I bring to conventions like PAX, because walking around all day in them isn't a problem, even for a weekend. Waterproof too.
I'm a huge, huge fan of sketchers men's shoes. They approximate grown up formal and business shoes but are inexpensive and quite comfortable. I don't have any handy links as it's been a while since I've worn my pair(s), but check them out. Broken in, I can easily spend a 12 hour day in them, and they're pretty darn sturdy.

I walk 1.5-2 miles a day as exercise mostly in these if they aren't too casual for you:

We're going to have to pick colors together or else it'll be awkward at parties.

If they're not quite your style though, I'd definitely recommend Zappos customer service. They are really good with questions like this.

I couldn't find the exact style I have online, but these are close:
