Much time has passed since the
birth of neutrality and the
fall of the Messian Empire.
Yet as with all cycles, it doesn't end there.
Part 2, Segment 2/3

Prologue
Call it what you will...
A revelation from god, or a curse from the demon king.
The fact remains that our world died.
A heretic called upon an unearthly light, and devastation ensued.
Demons crawled from the black depths.
Death upon death. Nothing but death in this barren land.
Who can we pray to?
There are only demons and fiends here.
A voice in the dark beguiles me.
'Truth is a mystery, unravelled by the candle's flames.'
-From, the journal of a man who wandered into another world
A new era is dawning. Where will you stand?
Let us begin down the path of a new trial.
With... a prophecy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0745-mB8OYIf such is the fate of this world, then I shall return it to its mother's womb.
The world must first die, for it to be born again...
...that is the only way to salvation, as recorded in an ancient prophecy.
But, I don't want you to meet the same fate.
I want to help you hold onto your life.
To do so, I need to know your name
Will you tell me who you are...?.
The protagonist... a young boy with the heart of a human.
Give him a nickname, as well.Repeat my name, if you recall...
And, your friends...
You have two... recall their names as well.
Those four will determine the course of events. Name them as you would. For the latter three, canon names are also acceptable.
Yuko Takao.
Chiaki Hayasaka.
Isamu Nitta.
Now, the fine print.
I am treating this as a first run for the unfamiliar.
I will be using my second cycle data for special purposes.
However, I will
not be making use of the Compendium. At all.
Call that my way of making it challenging. Or fun. Or both.
(Also, if you have a preference between Normal or Hard, decide as well.)
That said, refrain from spoilers, if you know what's to come.
The first update will begin once we have our cast named.
Posts
Also cj I was just now talking about you to a friend, about watching your UStream channel.
The first time I played it, I got in a little way and then hit a brick wall. It wasn't until a year had passed and I played through Digital Devil Saga that I was able to return to it and beat it. I'm not normally one to follow screenshot LPs, but I'll gladly make an exception for Nocturne - or Luficer's Call as it was called over here in England.
I am also for default names, and have no good ideas for a name for the protagonist.
Default Names.
// Switch: SW-5306-0651-6424 //
Also, the protagonist does have a canon name, supposedly, but I'm of the opinion that it's silly.
-Canon for everyone else.
-Hard Mode.
-Hooded or Leather Jacket? First answer decides.
Also, this will be fun.
Edit: Leather Jacket.
Leather: Magic +2, Agility +1
Hooded: Strength + 2, Vitality + 1.
Might as well make it a little less-easier to achieve game-breaker status.
The path of nightmares awaits us.
As ever.
Also... one other choice.
A gift of remembrance from another time.
And a fine choice.
(I named him as I always have. His first name is an SMT reference. ...sort of.)
As of now, your will to live shall be sustained. Believe in it... and live.
I don't understand.
But please don't forget what you've heard here.
I am the nurturer of the next world.
It is my duty to create the world that is to come.
Now, I want you to say my name out loud.
Makenai... I won't shed another tear, not even at the world's end.
I'd like to see you in the next world, though...
Go ahead and wake up.
It's time...
Please do not rush onto the train. The door is now closing.
The calm.
>You're late. You're way late, Makenai Iwakura!
You haven't forgotten that we're going to visit Ms. Takao, have you?
Hurry up and get over to Yoyogi Park! You're wasting my quality time!
A classmate of mine... His name's...
>I don't care if you come or not, but Ms. Takao's nice to me when you're around.
Oh yeah, you better make sure you look nice for her.
How about the jacket you bought the other day?
You know... the one with the demon graphic on it.
You're just the mood maker. Don't forget that.
And so we have control. As this is a NG+ cycle, I have the opportunity to use first-person view, SMTI&II style. But third is way more fun.
After the incident, we've had a lot of lookie-loos, but not so many customers.
Man, I've had a lot of free time on my hands.
Incident...?
...Huh? Are you saying you haven't heard the news???
What's going on?
If you want the details, you can check the giant screen.
A buncha people were killed. You could hear the sirens wailing all day long.
I'm sorry about that. I shouldn't be talking on the job, even if I'm not busy.
A glimpse of first-person mode. As you can see, not much to see or do here.
And I won't use this often, sorry. :P Well, unless there's a good view.
Might as well.
Home sweet home... such as it is.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vC3m9NfEXfM
We ask for your cooperation.
Like there's a choice.
A live report's going on...
But even I can't forgive Cybers Communication for destroying the park for their own profits!
She's going on and on; very impassioned.
Oh, you mean that thing they're showing on TV? It doesn't seem real to me!
It's like this riot happened in another world or something.
Well, I don't really have anything to do with it, anyway.
You said you were going to visit Ms. Takao today, right?
Just because she's beautiful, don't go doing weird things to her, okay!?
What are you talking about?
>Don'tcha think that Hikawa guy's kinda cool?
>As if! He's got all those bad rumors about him floating around.
>Oh gawd! That's what makes him so cool!
The only thing uglier than those two; gossip.
What's all the fuss about?
The demonstration got out of hand, and there have been several deaths and injuries reported.
Also, Hikawa, the top executive of Cybers Corporation, is still missing.
Now, for the latest in entertainment, we move over to Ashimoto!
Same as ever.
There were even fatalities, yet it's like a carnival here.
Just a while back, a long-haired man walked in.
>You're such a scaredy-cat! C'mon, baby, every day we start our own 'riot of love'!!
>You're such a pervert! But I love that about you! *giggle*
Strange couple.
Stranger guy.
>Great, the entire park is closed.
I won't be able to get a single picture of the scene... just my luck.
What's up, kid?
What happened here?.
"The clash between a well-known company and a civic organization results in deaths"...
...that it was a struggle between two opposing cults.
Oh... sorry.
*sigh*... I finally got a hold of you. What have you been doing all this time?
(I knew she'd call eventually. Another classmate. Her name's...)
I could see if it was Isamu, but you're never late. Did something happen?
Where are you now? Yoyogi Park?
Well, since you didn't show up on time, Isamu and I left without you. We're almost there.
So yeah, I'm sorry, but can you come directly to the hospital?
You know which hospital it is? ...yeah, Shinjuku Medical Center.
Just go east from Shinjuku Station, and you can't miss it.
Oh well. I wanted to talk to Ms. Takao about what I should do after graduation, anyway.
Is now the right time for that?
>...What? I care about my future, thank you very much.
Honestly, you and Isamu should start planning ahead too.
...Anyway, don't keep us waiting, okay? See you later.
That's where I'm headed, too. What a coincidence.
You don't know what happened here, right?
Then you probably don't know what kind of hospital that place is, either.
The report on the Gaea Cult and the Scripture of Miroku...
It's an interesting read.
An issue of Ayakashi Monthly?
You wouldn't normally associate a hospital with the occult, but..
That place is different. Heheh.
False info is pretty common in the occult industry.
If it does turn out to be wrong, just laugh it off, okay? Well, I'd better get going.
My name's Hijiri. If we ever meet again, let me know what you think about my article.
I'll keep it in mind.
To be continued.
There's some interesting tidbits if you read into it, though.
(Sorry, a few mis-posts delayed this.)
Places to go, faces to see.
He had a giant sword on his back, and looked dangerous!
But I swear I've seen him somewhere before... Hmm...
What's up with everyone here? Everyone's so dang crabby, even after the riot!
By the way, do you wanna have a good time with me??
What's with this city?
Wish I knew.
Let's find out!
Backwater, isn't it?
Also creepy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkyX7lejcWk
Someone we should know.
You know, this hospital... it's a little strange.
...There's nobody here. Not a single person.
Isn't it creepy here? I don't like it...
He hasn't come back yet, though. He better not be off fooling around.
...Hey, what's that magazine?
Some guy gave it to me.
You got it from a stranger? Come on, you should know better than that.
What!? It's an occult magazine! Why would you bring something like THAT here!?
...Well, I guess it might help me kill some time.
Makenai, can you help me look for Isamu?
If we can't find Ms. Takao, then I don't want to stay here another minute.
He should be on the second floor, where the patients' rooms are.
I'll wait here. ...Oh yeah, let me borrow this magazine. Thanks!
And, exploration time.
The hospital is, as Chiaki says, deserted.
Lots to see, but nothing there.
Well, almost nothing.
It's not Cielo Mist, but truly, what is?
There's something.
Might as well go track him down. The hat should make it easy.
There's rooms, but they're all deserted.
Except that one.
Takes the time to adjust his hat; a classy fellow.
You come here late, you cause trouble... Geez. Ah, forget it.
I called Miss Takao and double-checked, though. She said "Shinjuku Medical Center".
Maybe something happened...
This place better not be contaminated by some deadly virus...
I checked out most of this place. I don't know where Ms. Takao could be...
Oh well. I'll go back and see how Chiaki is doing.
She's probably all mad at me 'cuz I've been gone so long...
*sigh* It's hard to please a girl with her upbringing.
See ya in a bit, Makenai. I really hope that this is nothing we should be worried about...
>Isamu left the room.
And back we go.
Um, Makenai... You know that special report at the beginning of the magazine?
Well, it says some things that are a little disturbing.
Oh hell. See, we should have gone Messian in SMT2, but noo...
They're right here in Japan. Anyway, they believe in this book of prophecy called the Scripture of Miroku.
(As far as I can tell, this is a reference to Maitreya, a forthcoming incarnation of Buddha; known as Miroku Bosatsu in Japanese.)
In that book, it says that chaos will befall the world,
and these people are actually trying to make that happen.
The reporter was unable to learn what is meant by "chaos"...
It could be worldwide terrorism, or some other tragedy, but...
I even checked the men's room.
We're in the middle of a conversation, so please save the details for later.
"A hospital on the east side of Shinjuku is closely linked to their plan..."
You know, this could be the hospital that they're referring to.
I've heard weird things about this place.
Things like how they experiment on patients, and how a psychic got scared and ran outta here...
There was also one about the hospital being under the influence of some cult...
Really? I haven't heard those things before. Maybe we shouldn't have come...
I don't normally take this kind of magazine too seriously, but...
There's definitely something wrong with this hospital.
Hey, let's look around some more.
If we don't find anything, then at least we know there's nothing bad here.
It looks like you can access the annex from the second floor. I'll go take a look.
>Obtained an ID Card.
Why don't you go check the basement yourself?
...You're not scared, are you?
O-of course not! I'm sure she's not down there, that's why I'm having Makenai go!
All he needs to do is confirm that Ms. Takao's not in the basement
It's my duty to see her in person.
If something does happen, Makenai, just run like hell! Alright?
But now, I'm worried about Ms. Takao. We should make sure she's okay.
I wonder if we'll find her...
Let's hope.
Down we go.
Cozy.
Checkpoint, and...
Ding.
Some of the rooms here actually have content.
Of a sort.
(SMT2 vets: anything look familiar?)
Creepiness here, too.
Naturally, we enter.
Who dares to disturb this stillness?
A well-known poet once said... "April is the cruelest month."
Why? Because it is then that one must wake up from a long sleep and face the barren world.
The worthless overgrowth of a civilization blind to its sins,
continuous bloodshed and war,
and thousands of years of repeating the same mistakes again and again.
...The world must start over from the beginning.
The way to salvation was foretold in the Scripture of Miroku,
and today is the day that the prophecy shall be fulfilled.
The old world will sink like a setting sun,
and the new world will arise in its place.
From what I remember, you're not one of our followers who survived the purge at the park.
Come to think of it, this was a hospital, wasn't it?
I see, you came to visit her.
However, even a pebble creates ripples when cast into water.
I do feel pity for you, but...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fuT34EgZVA
All the inhabitants of this world will follow before long.
Your time has come just a bit sooner, that's all.
...
Fool... no one can overcome their fate.
It should have absolutely no effect on our plan.
The insignificance of the gesture makes no difference.
I will not allow any exceptions.
...Such a troublesome Maiden.
Please leave this room.
I would like to enjoy this blissful end in solitude.
We'll have a good view of the city from there.
Come, see it with your own eyes.
Witness that which will change the world...
And finally, time to GTFO.
So much for that.
But we're busy at the moment. Let's come back later.
>The child and the old woman disappeared...
I'm so done with this place.
Weird.
2F is deserted, too.
Roof?
Roof.
And who else would be waiting but her.
I'm glad I made it in time, back there at the basement...
I wouldn't want you to fall prey to a demon.
You heard what Hikawa said, right?
The world is about to be engulfed by chaos.
It's called the Conception...
The rebirth of the world, an event which no human has ever witnessed.
Everyone outside of this hospital will perish.
But, even if we let this old world continue to exist,
it would eventually lose all of its power.
The world must first die, for it to be born again...
And I alone will carry the burden of its sin.
...No, I don't have any regrets.
And it is your fate that you will live through the Conception.
It may actually be more painful than death...
Makenai... please find me.
No matter how the world changes, I'll be your strength.
As the Maiden, I'll take part in the creation of the new world...
I'm sure that I'll be able to provide you with guidance.
...I know it's difficult for you to understand.
But we're out of time.
Makenai... If you can find me on your own, I promise that I'll tell you everything.
...The answers to all your questions, and what my true feelings are...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=am4W2uZOpf4
You have nothing in your heart. Not even a hint of Reason.
For the one who will shape the world, this cannot be.
Go! And discover yourself...
>Elsewhere...
Where am...
Poor human. He wants to give you a special gift.
It is vital that you receive this gift.
It will only hurt for an instant...
This will make you a demon...
My little master is always watching you, so don't bore him...
...
Next time: The Rebirth
// Switch: SW-5306-0651-6424 //
Give up? This refers to...
(I actually remembered the scene from SMT3 when I first saw that.)
Also, I'm preemptively voting that we do everything the creepy kid tells us to do, because what could possibly go wrong with that? :P
True demon ending I presume? (seeing as it has the most content)
I will do two endings. One to be decided by you all, the other True Demon, afterward.
Beat him my first attempt on hard mode without breaking a sweat.
Wind immune/absorb demons and buffs/debuffs.
// Switch: SW-5306-0651-6424 //
Point. Everyone warned against him, so I was prepared. :P
(There are much harder bosses.)
// Switch: SW-5306-0651-6424 //
And now I'm collecting up every game I can that has an english translation :P
I am never going to play this came Iwakura so get your ass to work!
*
My vote goes toward the (True) Neutral ending.
I did in fact die in the process. (But not to the very first fight... the fourth.)
There we go, back on track.
From the command menu(Square), you can view and ingest Magatama.
We'll be needing that; it gives Maken all his skills.
At least he still controls the same.
This is where you can view items, status, the skills pending to be learned
from the Magatama, all that good stuff.
At each level up, the Magatama may learn a new skill. Later skills take longer.
In addition, one point can be allocated to his stats.
We'll be focusing on VIT then STR for a while, in interest of keeping alive.
Same setting, but slightly off-kilter.
Am I that peculiar? Have you been living all your demon life in a cave?
Well, if you're going to walk around the hospital, let me warn you...
You've chosen to walk the path of hardship.
You may never again turn your back on your enemies... Keep that in mind.
A warning on what to expect in Hard Mode. Also, don't expect to see many humans.
Their souls are all that's left.
May as well look around.
Let's start here.
A familiar face.
What happened to you?
I'm not sure myself.
I see. Well, at least you still think like a human.
So, what the hell is going on?
I took a quick look around, and it looks like I'm in a hospital...
Since you're here too, does that mean this is Shinjuku Medical Center?
Anyways. As much as I want to know what's going on out there,
I don't think it's safe for me to walk around.
Any what?
My guess is that they're... demons.
My strange experience... your new look... and these weird creatures...
I don't think the police will be able to help us here.
Damn... I might have to seriously consider the possibility.
It's hard to believe, but... if this is Shinjuku Medical Center, I can't just rule it out.
The Conception... could have occured for real.
If my memory serves me right, it belongs to a man named Hikawa.
He must have something to do with all this.
If you're strong enough to fight those demons, then will you gather information for me?
I tried talking to what looked like a ghost, but I didn't have much luck.
What's happened to the world...?
Are there other humans out there...?
We can only learn the answers to these questions by finding somebody else.
I wish I could do it myself, but I don't think I'd last very long against those demons.
Besides, I'd like to spend some time studying this object.
I'm counting on you.
Don't worry about me; I know I'd only slow you down if I came with you.
Hey, I don't plan on dying here, you know. That's why I'm checking this thing out.
...So, go.
This is also where to save. After doing that, we do as he wishes.
There's a helpful guest here, now.
I'll heal your wounds, so please don't eat me!
>The soul healed you.
I'll heal your wounds anytime, so don't eat me, please.
Very useful for the time being.
>Will you open it?
Sure, why not.
Things go from bad to worse here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nT-jZasvAVk
Welcome to Amala.
>A voice echoes in your head...
Show me... the strength... of a demon.
>The old man and the woman disappeared.
Freaky.
This is basically the tutorial section. But this is a trial by fire.
You can easily die here on Hard, and I have in the past.
Don't leave without it.
Here's our first visitor.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQhgTN7bNH8
Not a friendly one.
mE eAt....
It wants blood.
They're pretty weak, fortunately.
A few hits, and they go down easy.
MaGaTsuHi...
Stubborn, though.
Very close.
And our first level.
HP is priority one here.
He comes in handy. Slightly more ominously so.
Here comes the game wrecker.
This is the guy who can easily get you a game over.
One Critical gets him an extra turn. One more and you're dead.
Fortunately, that didn't happen this time.
Still a close call.
Too close.
When Hitoshura's wounded, his posture changes, and his tattoos glow red.
A sign to heal ASAP. I exploit Dr. D often.
We could, but there's items down the other way.
And some easy XP.
This is the helpful one. (AOE Fire damage.)
There's one last fight, another pushover.
And our first skill, which sends Marogareh into a fit.
This can be good or bad, depending on whimsy.
This time it was good. Stronger ones tend to have higher odds of being bad.
The end of the road.
So, you made it...
Your strength... is outstanding.
We shall meet again... soon...
Everything goes hazy... and we wind up back in the 'real' world.
Such as it is.
Cheer up, at least you're not a slime.
Moving on up!
Were you trying to leave the hospital?
Yes.
>Then how about next door?
This is the main building, but there's an annex.
Maybe you can use that entrance.
I don't know anyone by that name...
Apparently not.
The view's kind of a downer now.
Magatsuhi is the source of demonic powers, I think.
I don't know much about it...
Maga...tsuhi...
Magatsuhi...
>The door is locked from the other side.
Guess we'll go back later.
This is our auto-map. Nothing as nasty as SMT1&2's.
Not yet, anyway. Definitely more room to work with, at least.
Well what's this?
Are you looking for something?
The exit.
Hey, about that thing you're looking for... I'll help you, if you want!
I was looking for something, too!
A demon who can help take me to Yoyogi Park.
You look kinda flabby and weak, but I'll let that slide.
Whaddya say? Should we join up?
Fine.
If we have the Pass-thingie,
we can get through that door to the annex.
I saw some Pretas carrying it.
>Pixie joined your party!
And our first recruit.
He's probably dead by now. Eaten by a demon or something weird like that.
The view's changed, alright.
Ew!Those gunky Pretas are inside!
Here, let me talk in their nappy native language...
"Me have... Magatsuhi... Brought... lots..."
>Gaah? Maga...tsuhi?
Me eat! Me eat!!
Alright, they fell for it! You ready?
As ever.
We don't have any Magatsuchi to give to the likes of you!
If you don't wanna get hurt, give us the Pass-thingie!
Haha-hahaha! Magatsuhi!!!
Me want to eat.
And here they come.
If luck goes badly, and they all attack the protagonist, this can easily be over fast.
Fortunately, again, that didn't happen.
One solid lunge wrecks him, and gets us an extra turn.
Criticals and hitting weaknesses add an extra turn in SMT3's combat system.
However, misses and wasted hits(nulls or absorbs) can lose turns, or worse, end
the entire round for the party. The max extra turns you can get are four.
Pixie here uses Zio, which the Pretas are weak to, getting us easy extra turns.
Once we take the initiative, they're done for.
Magatsuhi!!
Hmm, you're stronger than I thought!
But you could get even stronger if you talk to other demons
and get them on your side. We got the Pass-thingie, so let's get over to Yoyogi Park!
Sounds like a plan!
Pixie also knows Dia, a life-saver right about now.
Okay, time to-
Oh hell.
Negotiation time! SMT3's is slightly more unpredictable than 1 & 2's.
Umm... Gimme one Life Stone.
You can have one.
Hooway! I'll give you this Medicine!
...
Well, that didn't accomplish much.
You'll probably die. Nice knowin' ya!
To be continued in post 2.
