You have to 'like' the facebook Mass Effect 2 page in order to be able to like one of the pictures.
All you're voting for is for which haircolor you want for the official Femshep (the one that will appear in trailers and on the collector's edition box).
Looks like they put a little extra work into GingerShep to make her the best. Green eyes, freckles, and they got rid of that foppish beauty mark. I think Bioware wants GingerShep to win.
Edit: predictably, the fact that GingerShep is a little different from the other models already has the Bioware forums in uproar that this vote isn't fair.
Bioware, Bioware, Bioware. I love you for offering another chance to have a red-headed Shepard, but I also hope you realize that you will never, never be able to satisfy your Unpleasable Fanbase, no matter how many votes you offer.
That image looks like it's been photoshoped. If you look at the original image and blow it up, the redhead has the same colored eyes as the rest. Also, the freckles are jpeg artifacts.
Nah, there were always mentions of renegade survivors. Plus I'm assuming there's a way to fail to get both Geth and Quarians to unite. If that's true, and you choose flesh over steel, you'll be killing your former 'allies'.
I wonder if Bioware is just fucking with people now... like, the next vote is skin color so their fans can accuse each other of being racists.
Sit down, my lad, and I will tell you a tale of FemShep: a voting history.
There was, long before the posters came up, a Twitter poll over what coloring FemShep should have. Red hair and green eyes were the clear winners, with some people adding "freckles" to boot.
Then, the posters were--posted. On Facebook, everything looked far away and it was not easy to make out any facial features, mostly just hair. The only redhead looked like she might as well have brown hair for all the red you could see in it, and what hair she had was pulled into a tight, severe little bun that made her look prissy instead of badass. So everyone voted for #5, most not because it was blonde, but because it had the only wild, unkempt hairstyle on a face that almost had to be decent and looked badass, which more people care about than mere color.
Still, most fans preferred another color than platinum with those black eyebrows and lashes. So they said so. And a whirlwind of bitching was born, with many blonde fans wailing about how they were screwed over and everything was rigged and this came out of nowhere--even though the redhead fans' vote was screwed over long before their vote even existed, and all Bioware was doing was solving the matter democratically.
And that's the tale of how that crazy old "vocal minority" somehow cheated on two different voting sessions. At least, that's what people are saying. Sorry to those who thought the blonde fans were the reasonable majority, but every hair color seems to have its howling, bitter idiots who hate women in other categories.
Personally, I think blonde hair is just fine--I just prefer it on natural blondes who don't look younger than the age of their character (as blonde hair makes a person look younger than they are, probably due to subconscious associations; blonde hair in kids often darkens as the person ages, after all.) Seriously, she looks a lot younger than Sheploo, though they're supposed to be the same age. I am a brunette, as are most FemSheps, and I agree with HardTarget that it looks the most military... but I want to make good marketing decisions for Bioware, and I think the red hair pops the most.
Plus, people enacting the whole "kick a ginger day" thing in real life, resulting in violence which goes far beyond the usual verbal ginger-hate, just makes me want to stand up and say, "**** you guys, redheads are awesome and could kick your hateful asses."
For all the people wishing another race had won, I wish they'd made the voting more varied than it was with fewer weak hairstyles and more skin/hair tones than there were, as well as separate votes for those and the face, but it's too late now. At least a vote for Ginger Shepard is a vote against prejudice which blondes don't suffer.
Come on, Samus Aran, Alexandra Roivas, Aya Brea from Parasite Eve--the smart, badass blonde heroine has been done before. Bloodrayne is not exactly a positive, non-sexualized stereotype of a redheaded protagonist.
Man...I swear you guys really care a lot about a hair color.
And please don't link Kotaku...it's been known to give you cancer.
Personally, I'm not a guy. That may be part of it. But yeah, when we live in a world where little kids get beaten up and teased in school just for having red hair, where people used to be slaves just because their skin was brown and not peachy, and where people were killed for not being blonde and blue-eyed, I do care about coloring. It clearly kinda matters whether I want it to or not.
FemShep is sort of representing us Mass-Effect-loving girl gamers. If they're going to give us a choice, then of course I'm going to pick what I like best. My line of thinking is, "finally, a redhead who's not a salacious vixen or a fiery-tempered bitch; she's instead the tough, smart, compassionate military hero of the galaxy. That's busting a stereotype or two." I like that.
Now I just hope the trailer represents the character the way I've come to love her.

Uh... what? Everyone wants to have sex with Shepard and she's a complete psychopath.

...Well...that because people are stupid as far as your first sentence goes.
As for your second paragraph...I don't really think it was for female gamers as anyone really. I'm a dude and while I didn't mind the blonde shep I voted for the red and black haired chicks because well, blonde is the hollywood standard and because of that it is kind of boring after a while and I just find red/jet black hair hotter. So personal preference.
So, no matter which one won...at the end of the day I can say I really wouldn't give a damn.
Really, I'm just surprised at the type of feelings(positive and negative) that can be brought out from a video game contest. I can't say that this contest was at all meant to be some kind of stand against any kind of perceived injustice. At the end of the day, I think it was just a thank you to the fan community and a way for people to feel involved.
So..."Why so serious?"
*Though, I guess I can't say much in that regard, since I do spend a good time talking about the moral makeup of fictional characters.
*That being said...I do also remember that DA Isabela mod from a while back, and I will say that did kind of weird me out a bit.

she looks more concerned with painting her nails and buying chihuahua accessories than saving the damn galaxy
i can't believe all these horny pizza-faced teenagers are voting for the Jessica Rabbit lookalike instead of somebody competent
That is so good
A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals, and you know it
Perfect.
For both sexes.
I'm not playing with you, have you flashy thinged me?
Also, redheads. Only because my femshep is a redhead. And so is my wife, so if I vote any other way I sleep on the couch.
There's a link on page 86 to the Bioware facebook page. Should do you right.
Why I fear the ocean.
FemShep poll #2
You need a facebook account to to vote.

Steam / Origin & Wii U: Heatwave111 / FC: 4227-1965-3206 / Battle.net: Heatwave#11356
can't let the world know I play video games. I'm undercover
Is that sarcasm I detect?
I think its more the angelic 19-year old blemish free face. This girl was clearly shopping during the Blitz.

Actually, yeah, I got Alyx confused with another character--they explicitly talk about her background. My fault.
On the other hand, I think Wet's protagonist is white.
Same here. "Uh, why are you voting in a video game character beauty contest?
Alas, blondshep, it was not meant to be.
I wanted to vote redhead but in the end I voted black hair, it just seemed more military/fitting for the character.
I guess Cerberus got their hands on them, and as usual, whatever they touch turns to shit?
Only person we've seen so far is Ashley and that was like 10 second clip.

Oh, and now we can vote for ManShep, too.

Open section on 'video games', that's all I have to say on the matter.
In any case, the new weapons look good so far.
I thought it was a shotgun at first. Whether that is a good thing or bad thing I'm not so sure yet.

I also don't know what new sniper rifle is being referred to.
Mystery thread.
