As Steam continues to syphon pittance from my wallet, how does Batman and GTA IV play on the PC? I gave up on getting Star Wars TFU when I realized it was a shitty port, but is GTA or Batman better?
"And now, playing for the first time since their final, fatal performance, coming to you UN-live from a place WHERE THE LIVING DARE NOT LINGER, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE ROTTING BRAIN CELLS!"
It was the oddest band they had ever seen. The drummer was banging on his instrument with his bare arm bones. The bassist had half his face eaten off. The main guitarist was at it plucking with two hands, a root holding its guitar securely to its gut.
And the vocalist? Well, she needed a crewman to hold the microphone, because some fan had run off with her arms.
Aw. Two games I received as gifts both don't work. Stubbs was sorta obvious and Tayrun pretty much spite gifted that . It worked

I played Batman on the PC and it was fine.
It was designed for consoles, obviously, but I never encountered any major issues with it.

If I buy a 4-pack for a game I already own, do I get to send out all four as gifts?
I was under the impression that you can't buy a game (even as a 4-pack) if you already own it. I'm not sure if it applies to individual games or it's a store-wide policy.

The PC version of Batman is the best one. With a 360 controller, it plays exactly the same (though the KBAM controls are actually well thought out, too). And if you have an nvidia card, there's extra effects.
I know nothing about Batman or L4D, I have no idea what to choose. I normally wouldn't buy them on my own, but its going to be a gift which means I can get something outside of my normal comfort zone. I don't have any games with online vs/co-op, so I'm leaning towards L4D.
Thoughts?
Both.
Seriously both.
They're both fucking amazing.
Glad I could help.
You made some really good points. I've submitted for the contest the best Batman moment ever, so I might come out of this with luck on my side and get both. Worst case scenario? I only get one amazing game for free. OH NO.

What kind of games do you normally play?
Batman has less replay value, third-person melee combat. Also, he's Batman.
LFD is a fast paced, multiplayer shooter with crazy zombies.
Both are really fun.
Also TF2 is free now, go get it.
I normally play games that give me really unique experiences, Mario, or point and click adventures. I played the shit out of Spiderman 2 (also 3rd person melee), but I think that was mostly because of the web swinging. I'm running onboard video (modern mobo, but still) so I'm also iffy on what my PC might be able to run.
edit: If it feels like a game/reminds me of a game I've played before, I don't want to play it. Exceptions being Mario, point and clicks, and Diablo.

Who: Me! And possibly you!
What: ATOM ZOMBIE SMASHER
When: From Now until roughly 10 Mountain Time
Where: The Internet!
Anyways, I'll be giving away a copy of Atom Zombie Smasher. This game is a fun little diversion, and a steal for 3 bucks, but since people have been generous with me, I figure I can save someone a few bucjs. Now, this game, as you might now, has zombies. What you might not know, is it has some pretty kicking music. This contest, shall combine the two.
I want the ultimate zombie rock band. Be as in depth as you want, but I want, at the very least, the a name, but you can say, give album titles, band member names, etc. Just make zombies up or create an all star band of deceased real life musicians. Use pictures, puns or prose!
The Dead Kennys. Imagine a Polyphonic Spree-sized death metal-punk crossover band consisting entirely of undead versions of Kenny from South Park. Songs include "Mouth of Ozz", "Nine Inch Nailed", "John Elway's Diddle Carousel", and "Brown Note in the Pinkeye."

This makes me angry!
You can buy the four pack, but you must buy it as a gift. The giftee then gets the four pack as if he bought it himself (1 copy for himself, 3 to gift out.)

Thanks both of you! My only hold-off is that I already have beaten Batman before on PS3, though I do not own it.
Also I was immediately turned off to GTA IV when I read you need a Windows Live account to be able to save. Fuck that shit that's completely pointless.

I keep seeing people with these Eschalon games. are they really that good?
I also need to know this
They are really good but just be aware, since you build your character completely, there's a very good chance you may build him poorly and end up not being able to advance. It's fun, but pretty unforgiving. It seems a lot like a single player Ultima Online.
Yeah, it's got a real Ultima/Fallout kind of vibe. The world will kick you in the balls and laugh at you. In the starting area. Then do a little dance and kick you in the teeth while you are laying on the ground, curled up and moaning. Currently my character is trapped in a beginner dungeon. He's running out of torches. He caught some kinda funk disease from looting a skeleton so he don't feel none too good right now. He's out of healing potions. He's currently planning on trying to rest up enough so he can claw his way back to the surface and sneak back to town, objective unattained. Maybe he can get some help with his disease but really, people don't seem to give a shit one way or the other about him. Then, if I can get healthy, rearm and maybe equip something decent by selling some of the stuff I've found, I'll go back and see if I can get what I went down for in the first place. Let me reiterate; This is the area you start out in. No tutorial, just a swift kick in the balls. I'm really enjoying it, but then I'm a masochist. If this kind of stat driven, turn based, isometric blanket party sounds like your kind of thing, you'll probably have a blast too.
I knew it. I knew this would happen. I'm so happy.
Oh also! Until the 10th I will continue updating as daily as I can to tell you what games to buy on my blog. Note that all of these recommendations are confirmed accurate. In that they are definitely recommendations.
Thanks for stepping up and completing the AI War contest for me during my odd inability to purchase gifts!
I'll grab you whatever is $4 or less that you feel like (Atom Zombie Smasher is cool) unless, of course, I still can't purchase fucking gifts.
No problem. And don't even think about buying me anything, just run another contest and give someone else something, I have way too many games as it is.

Batman is definitely the more unique I would say. How many 3rd person adventure/brawlers with Metroid elements are there? That involve Batman? L4D is if you're looking for some co-op/multiplayer. However, your gpu issues might make running Batman more difficult whereas Source games run better on older computers.

So, how is the story in the King's Bounty games? Because what I realize is that open world games just don't do it for me--if I don't have a story, I can't focus and don't end up playing much.
Like, honestly, I'd much prefer a tight, 6-12 hour experience, than an 120 hour open world fest. So, as much as the praise for King's Bounty is swaying me.. I want to know its got the story to pull me through the hours.

Also, question 2, since someone said earlier that Dreamfall isn't quite as good as Longest Journey, and ends in a total cliffhanger, would it be acceptable to just pick up Longest Journey for now and wait on Dreamfall until the third one drops?

The sequel, The River of Time, is available on the US Steam store for 10 bucks.
But get the King's bounty package, that is dirt cheap for a hell of a lot of gameplay.
Anyone have a spare copy they'd like to trade for? Jamestown or Kings Bounty Plat or something in that price range.
