Also, question 2, since someone said earlier that Dreamfall isn't quite as good as Longest Journey, and ends in a total cliffhanger, would it be acceptable to just pick up Longest Journey for now and wait on Dreamfall until the third one drops?
An analogy: Dreamfall is to Longest Journey as A Bug's Life is to Finding Nemo. Not as good, but still fantastic.
Alright, so, I think I'll just pick up The Longest Journey for now then. I'm sure Dreamfall will be back on sale during the next Winter sale, and I'll have plenty to keep me going until then.
Now, back to the first question--> How's the story in the King's Bounty games? Or is it mostly just a weak framing for killing things ala Diablo and such?

Wait...is Atom Zombie Smasher (bought it because the demo was fun) supposed to be infuriatingly difficult and unwinnable the entire time?
I captured a total of 4 territories by the end, and was beating the invasion by a few hundred, then 2 and 3 spots popped up, and one turned into a 4 and it was basically game over (I tried it, had 30 seconds to destroy them all with ONE infantry and dynamite...what? the? crap?). Past that I was just furious every map because all I would get is stupid barricades every month and maybe some mines. WORTHLESS!

I'm wavering on Jamestown. I mean, I've already put up a lot of money in this sale, both in gifts and in personal purchases.. but many, everyone talks about this game like it is the second coming, and I haven't owned a good PC Shmup since my days playing the old Apogee one and Tourian. Both of which I -LOVED- for their out there ness. I'm not a big fan of modern bullet hell shooters, but I could definitely go for some old school loving.
Then there's the Far Cry games.. which I don't know if people love, hate, or love ironically...
So Killing Floor, is it like COD :BLOPS Zombie mode pretty much or something different? I am not sure if it looks awesome or just kind of cool.
It's a lot more intense, IMHO. In a Killing Floor session about two minutes pass before you find out that you've expended most of your ammunition/gotten separated from the group/are on fire/being eaten/being chased by a monkey with chainsaw arms.
Thanks for stepping up and completing the AI War contest for me during my odd inability to purchase gifts!
I'll grab you whatever is $4 or less that you feel like (Atom Zombie Smasher is cool) unless, of course, I still can't purchase fucking gifts.
No problem. And don't even think about buying me anything, just run another contest and give someone else something, I have way too many games as it is.
I've coined a phrase for this: Giftbacks. As in, "No giftbacks, please. I already have enough games in my backl, er, gamebank to play until the end of time."
If honor demands that you must respond to a gift, well, you pay that shit forward.

Sort of. It has a good dollop of Counter-Strike (buying stuff between rounds) and some persistence between games ( leveling up classes). It definitely appeals to a certain gamer.

So, how is the story in the King's Bounty games? Because what I realize is that open world games just don't do it for me--if I don't have a story, I can't focus and don't end up playing much.
Like, honestly, I'd much prefer a tight, 6-12 hour experience, than an 120 hour open world fest. So, as much as the praise for King's Bounty is swaying me.. I want to know its got the story to pull me through the hours.
There are lots of side quests that can keep you busy for hours, but there is an overall story to the game, told through the primary quests

I'm just curious how good that story is. Like Dragon Age 2, people can say what they want about the re-used dungeons and stuff, but the core story was excellent, and I blew through it. Assassin's Creed 2, up until I got distracted by life, had me tearing through it. Assassin's Creed 1 though, with its much weaker story, just couldn't hold my attention.
Then there are games like Oblivion, where there's just too much, and the story isn't in your face enough to keep you moving on it.
I need structure, damnit!

Not sure how BLOPS zombie mode plays, but KF is basically an arena shooter.
Up to six people kill waves of enemies, there are different types of enemies with different abilities (the weakest, Clots, deal little damage but they can grab you and prevent you from moving, Bloats are slow moving and deal low melee damage, but they can vomit acid on you which causes damage over time and obscures vision, Gorefasts can run faster than most other enemies and deal high damage with their blades, Crawlers are lower to the ground and can jump around making them difficult to target for some weapons, Stalkers sneak up to you while mostly invisible and slash at you with their claws, etc)
Each round is made up of larger numbers of stronger enemies. The first round contains only Clots, and a few Gorefasts and Bloats, second wave you'll start seeing Crawlers, third wave stuff like Sirens show up, etc.
And then you have your Perks, which are basically classes. Sharpshooters gain extra damage from headshots, Commandos can see invisible enemies and can see enemy health meters, Supports are better at welding doors and can carry more equipment weight than anyone else, and so on and so forth.
The one downside to the game is that perks can take a disgustingly long time to level up, you basically gain levels by utilizing your perk's chosen weapon or function. Medics level by healing damage, Sharpshooters level by getting headshots, etc.
And as you level, you'll be more suited to taking on the higher difficulties (You probably want to stick with Normal until you have at least a perk at level 2, Hard until you have some at level 4 or so, etc)

Dragon Age and King's Bounty can't even be put in the same category really. If you're looking for story like in Dragon Age, you won't find that in King's Bounty. It's more of a strategic game than RPG in that respect.

Story in King's Bounty? Well...there is one...
Nobody is playing King's Bounty for the story. If they are, they definitely aren't here recommending it. It's a fun game for a variety of reasons, but story ain't one of them.
It's possible the expansions change that, but I doubt it based on the first one.
Thanks for stepping up and completing the AI War contest for me during my odd inability to purchase gifts!

Too late. I found out there was a game this man didn't own yet and made my move. :P
I had just closed Singularity to lick my wounds after a less-than-successful encounter with a teleporting boss creature, and whatever frustration I felt was instantly alleviated by finding that Iolo had gifted me King's Bounty: Armored Princess!
Are any of the Sims 3 expansion worth picking up or should I just save myself the money and pick up the base game?
Usually the formula is
1st expansion pack is great, a must own
2nd expansion pack is pretty cool, recommended
3rd pack and on are pretty hit or miss. Sometimes you get a greatly expanded game (hot date) or crap that just gets in the way (unleashed and all pets expansions)
Looking at the list, it looks like they got the 'meh' out of the way quick with world adventures because that seems more like "on the side distraction" than any real changes. Ambitions and Late Night seem great. Generations would be worth researching into first.

King's Bounty is tons of fun, even though I still haven't finished it and I bought all three back when the third one came out. If you like role playing tactical games (FF tactics and the like), that's what it is and it's a very polished one.
The difficulty is old school, though, so it can be a little intimidating.

Anyone else want to weight in on this?
It depends on what you want. I'd suggest taking a look at the sims wiki entry for each expansion and seeing what you like.
I think World Adventures is pretty cool because it adds Photography as a pretty fleshed-out thing, which is nifty all by itself. Ambitions is a must if you're interested in any of the professions it adds--as they let you actually do things, like be a Ghostbuster. Late Night adds vampires and a cool city, as well as some new traits and careers and stuff.
They all have something good, I think, even if its just their little improvements to the Create-A-Sim portion of the game.

Batman Giveaway Results!
I had a lot of great entries. Tales of personal sojourns to the Batcave. Batman's complex and storied relationship with sharks. Alien vs. Predator vs. Batman. An...interesting .GIF of Batman, locked in combat with Amanda Waller while apparently...
Ahem.
I had two entries that I really liked (and no one picked my Second Favorite Batmoment, which is posted below), so I hit the RNG. Here is your winning Batmoment. Captain Carrot, please prepare to receive the gift of the Bat.
Edit: Oh, and I'd like to give an honorable mention to Radius, who was in the final running as well, but then I reread the PM and realized he already owned the game and was just entering for my praise. It is earned. Here's the clip, also from the Justice League cartoon (which has got some great Batman stuff in it, too!):

I wasn't a fan of World Adventures mostly because the vacation mechanic seemed like such a chore. My sims tend to get the wish for them at horrible times, like when I dont have the money or its just not feasible cause of their life/job. They are interesting, but /shrug
Ambition had the addition of more active careers. While I found them fun the downside of a more hands-on role with their job is you dont get the downtime while theyre at work to manage other sims.
Late night added a few things (new city, vampires, celebrity status (I think it was LN)) so there are perks to it. I personally like the city setting more than the town one from vanilla game.
And I can't really speak to Generations as I just got it today and have yet to load it up.
And I haven't purchase Barnacle Bay yet.
As far as the packs of stuff goes... yeah, don't bother unless you really want something. Most modders can give you equal looking stuff.
ManetherenWolf is such a classy fellow, so classy that he had a contest all about meat. Even better than classy? Pure dumb luck. I qualified for the special second place prize but truly coveted the grand prize more... and got it instead!
Thank you ManetherenWolf!!!! Now I need a controller!
Witch Doctor, DBM, is for certain the most elegant and posh Witch Doctor of them all! Thank you *so* much for the Oddworld gifts! I'm not sure when you sent them, I just found them in my "gifts & guest passes" list, so please accept my sincerest apologies if this missive has seemed unduly delayed!
Hm. Anyone have any opinions on Guardians of Graxia? It looks pretty interesting for the price.
It got panned by reviewer becasue it was released buggy and it does not have multiplayer, but that said as a ex-magic the gathering player I've managed to have quite a bit of fun with it. So if you like the type of game there is something there for you.
I'm going to grab the dlc today.

Finished episode 3 of BTTF last night. I am firmly entrenched in the "shit just got real" category of the plot. This game is phenomenal. I've never really played an adventure game before but it's probably the perfect genre for the game.
Oh man. If you've never played an adventure game before and BttF has your socks knocked off...
Sorry this happened while I was in class. I was worried though, you seemed to trail off there as though you where about to tell me the secret that would change my adventure game based life but in that instant where brutally slain.
I'll bring flowers to the gravesite.
There is a LucasArts Adventure Game collection on Steam (forget how much it is). I recommend picking this up, lot of great games in there (as long as you are not averse to older sprite graphics :P)
My favorite of the bunch: Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.
You may also want to check out the Sam & Max and Tales of Monkey Island series(es) which are made by the same company as BttF and also available on Steam.
Edit: LucasArts Adventure Pack and it's currently on sale for $6.69 which is a pretty decent price for four games :P
The Longest Journey is good for mature writing. Ben There, Dan That is good for comedy (though you might be turned off by the absense of voice acting).
Yeah I picked that up on GoG when it was on sale for like $3 on a whim. Very fun. The cutscenes are so awful tho :P Go go early 3d :P
I am also a huge fan of the Kyrandia games which no one seems to want to put on any of these services (Steam, GoG, etc). Grr...
