Will I be utterly confused if I play ME2 without having played the first one?
That's how I started the series. It is fairly easy to get a grasp of the situation early on. However, after learning of events in part one, it is difficult to not want to go and play through part one for a save to import. Five times.
I am tempted by FO3 because I just have vanilla and the shitty GFWL version of Broken Steel. So it's basically $10 for 4 DLCs.
Also looking at Last Remnant, probably not though. Played the demo and I don't remember thinking it was anything special. Splinter Cell and Mass Effect are on my xbox, and Total War is already on my account.
However if you don't have Mass Effect 1/2 somewhere, you're stupid to not buy them now.
Is Conviction worth six-hundred-and-seventy-nine cents?
I understand it's more "GAT THESE FOOLS DARKGRIME SAM!" then "Holy shit! Amon Tobin has redefined game soundtracks and yeah the game is amazing too!"
I picked it up during the Christmas sale for more than it Is now and felt I got my money's worth.

RESULTS!
Assassin's Creed 2: DietarySupplement
Torchlight: TheRoadVirus
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light: Corpekata
Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword: Sir Carcass
Tropico 3 Gold Edition: Ratsult2
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey: mere_immortal
Trine: Icemopper
Defense Grid: The Awakening: Rakai
The target shot at most is Ezio, with a total of 37 bullets whizzing at him. Only one hit, though. In second place, with 23 shots, is Lara Croft.
Surprisingly, the ducks were shot at quite a bit, with 17 attempts. Good show, though, since the person who hit that target is EvilMonkey. He'll get a game off his wish list for his stellar aim and determination:

God yes. I can't stress this enough. If I didn't have such rose-colored glasses for Chaos Theory, I'd call Conviction easily the best in the series. It's the first Splinter Cell that really accommodates any playstyle. If you like to sneak through shadows and pick off guys one by one without anyone ever knowing you were there, you can do that. If you like to bust doors down and blast your way through with a shotgun and some grenades...you can do that. The game controls much smoother than any previous SC to date, and Deniable Ops mode plus multiplayer provides almost endless replay value.
BUY THIS GAME.

ME2 will make sense without the first one, but the first one is a great game too, despite its flaws, and it'd be better to play it before going on to the improved combat of the sequel, rather than risk getting interested and going back and playing the first game after the fact. Plus, $14 for both is 40+ hours of excellence.

It's a lot of fun, and the coop mode has its own story (although only like 4 missions without dlc). And for anyone looking at it, don't bother paying an extra couple bucks for the deluxe edition, since it adds literally nothing that you can't get otherwise: those bonus things can be 'bought' from the game-required Uplay with points from beating the game.

Heh, figures I win the game I couldn't resist buying before it went off the daily sale ><. Thanks for running such unique contests though Figgy.
If anyone doesn't have Divinity 2 (e.g. everyone), I suggest you get it. Very meh graphics, but combat is fun, if a bit hard at first, plenty of character customization, and YOU GET TO TURN INTO A DRAGON.
That would be a spoiler alert, except it's in the trailer.
Mindreading is pretty cool too. Overall, I have not been disappointed.
The Last Remnant PC is an amazing hard and tactical squad battle experience.
It's one of the most "original" rpg's this gen.
Yeah, the story's bad. But the character designs are entertaining and the battle system is where it's at.
@Figgy: :shock:
Not to look a gift-horse (ha!) in the mouth but that just feels like too much! What's your policy on gift-backs or donations for further contests?
So.... ME2 is a good price, and then I'd have it on PC instead of having to to play only when my mom wasn't using her XBOX -- but I'd have to buy all the DLC from EA, right? For more than the game itself?
Nothing is piquing my interest today, except maybe the Total War, but I played Rome when it first was released/beta(I forget) and was amused but not really into it.
Going to be afk a bit, but anyone needing a Firecracker, msg me on Steam and I'll hook you up if I'm around. Also willing to be shot in the Head 7 times for L&G, and any other Multiplayer cheevo you might need, if I have the game, so I think that's just about all of them minus the CS:Source one.

Never played a Splinter Cell. Which is the best one? I know not all the games are available on Steam.
Chaos Theory. Awesome gameplay, and my second favorite game soundtrack of all time.
OK I gotta know what your 1st is homes! I recall being more excited for the album than the game, but I was a big triphop head back then. And then the game turned out to be oh god so rad! Bonza!
And thanks for the recommendations you other fine folks. Going to pick it up for sure.

Easy way to obtain the Worms ticket (from Steam forums):
it sucked on the 360. they made several changes for the PC version that won't mean anything to you if you haven't played both versions, but fixed some things that made the game pretty hard to play. the main character is fairly dumb, the voice acting is not so great (good in some places), but it's a big game, has a very fun battle system, lots of character recruitment and a decent story. and at 10 bucks it's a steal.
Hey - thanks for the response. I'm a big fan of the JRPG and would love to have one on PC. Is it playable KBAM? Would you call the combat "action" based or turn based?
It is definitely playable on KBAM, just has a few camera based quirks in battle that you'll work out quickly enough. I'd play it with a controller, preference wise, but it's not crippling or hard with a keyboard, it won't detract, you won't be thinking "THIS IS AWFUL" or anything.
and it's definitely turn based. there's no direct control of your character. you end up controlling rather large (like, up to 16 or so characters) groups, giving commands to each one. they use skills, heal, magic, all that stuff. there's button prompts sometimes, adding critical effects and all that. you can turn those off if you like.

Watch the motion comic thing on YouTube, it should get you up to speed on the main plot.
And find a savegame from the first game to import. You lose an awesome secondary character on one planet if you go with the default Shepard.
You can actually get the motion comic on PC now and create an import with it. It's here and called Genesis.
And it is a shame that none of the DLC is available on Steam, because I want almost all of it but I'm never going to want to buy it at full price with Bioware points =\

Chaos Theory was my favorite and I believe is generally considered the best. However you may want to wait until someone answers my question below.
Q: Chaos Theory had Starforce DRM and every version I've seen since had it. I remember the Steam version having it too. Do any of the Splinter Cell games on Steam have any terrible Ubisoft DRM?

Hrm, when does ME3 come out? I've played and beaten mass effect 1/2 on the 360, but want to make the switch to PC. Still very poor (damnit bad timing paycheck) though, so wondering if I can wait till the xmas sale to get it. Red Faction is interesting to me, as I've played all the others, but still kinda pricey. And worms should be like 2 bucks, yeah.
edit: Chaos Theory is fantastic. I also played through the entire game (to a point) without knowing the pistol had an alt fire that disabled cameras and lights. There's a section towards the end that requires using it to get past, where I got stuck for like two hours of attempts till I looked up the solution. Felt like a badass though.

Yeah, if you have the DLC on 360 you get pretty shafted if you want to make a transition, since they don't offer the DLC cross-platform and it pretty much never goes on sale. That said, Shadow Broker is the only 'necessary' DLC, and Kasumi is the next most recommended, so if you just went for those it wouldn't be as bad.
Although yeah, every DLC piece costs more than the Steam sale of the game itself.

God damn it, I thought I'd be able to gift the extra copy of Napoleon: Total War that I got from the Empire GOTY sale today. When I went to checkout it only said I'd be unable to gift the DLC.

Not confused, really. But alot of elements meant for players to go 'oh shit it's THAT thing/guy' won't be significant.

Total War is a definite buy, I have been waiting for it. The others I am undecided on. Downloading the Divinity demo right now.
Confused no, but I highly recommend playing ME1 first.
At the very least, read a synopsis of the first game and then download a save game file to import into ME2.

No one did. They shot plenty of ducks, but Ben was unharmed.
So, I have a copy of the Ben There, Dan That pack, and Guardian of Light up for grabs.
I am so sad right now.
