I beat this game a few days ago. And absolutely loved it. At first I thought there would be no way to get around killing people but creative use of Corvo's kit and it becomes quite easy and I easily ended up a Low Chaos ending. Believe the only person who I actually assassinated was the Admiral, which was quite satisfying.
I had trouble adjusting to the stealth aspects at first, after Far Cry 3's super generous "stealth" mechanics. So after I got seen, I just went with it.
Then I went a little nuts after...
...I was captured by Daud...
...and my body count shot up a bit. Managed to get my head back on straight for Poetic Justice and Just Dark Enough.

It's throwing mana potions at me but I'm not complaining - I hate it when other games with cool powers give you barely enough so you can do something awesome maybe every hour or so. What's the point of having these powers if you can't use them most the time? Thankfully Dishonored doesn't make that mistake.
Anyways, I'm a Timebender now. I always thought firebending would be neat, but it sure don't allow for free one hit kills and undetected movement through enemy territory.
One question: Can I toggle between Bending Time 1 and 2? Yes, 2 is infinitely more powerful BUT has a shorter duration, which is a drawback when I'm fightin 4+ enemies.
Bend Time 1 also feels less like cheating, so I haven't upgraded it since I beat the game the first time.
Oh sure, but then again the pistol with mag upgrade and reload speed upgrade feels like cheating too! Screwed up, went with it and took down 20 guys in a row with zero effort and casualties before reloading :P
Also: Bend Time 2: Enter the Matrix
I'm a sucker for the Matrix, and all things related to: Acrobatics, Kung Fu, Time slowing etc.
There's not a single version of me across any possible alternate universe that wouldn't immideatly purchase Bend Time
you end up behind them and they stumble forward a bit. great for dropping them off irresponsibly unsecured ledges. this game makes a great noise when somebody falls to their death

Finally got to "D" on my backlog list, and Dishonored was up first! Nearing the end of the game I think. I'll admit, I've been super sloppy so far, and my Chaos rating is high. I may go back and do a cleaner play through at some point, now that I more intimately understand the game systems and how to manipulate the guard AI.
The big story twist in this is odd...
I saw it coming a mile off, yet, at the same time it was still surprising? I hadn't trusted any of those guys from the get go, I always knew they would turn on me somehow...but I found the manner in which it all happened surprising I guess.
Also, is it just me, or did they really not beef up the Daud story as much as they could have? He has one level sort of dedicated to him, but you learn little about who he is or what motivates him (and yes, I looked for as many of the lore books and such as I could find in his level).
Yeah, when I got to that part and
the screen started blinking and making noises and stuff (as the poison hits you), I remembered, "Hey wasn't there a supernatural assassin at the start? I didn't kill him yet."
Cue me wandering the grounds for a few minutes, blade drawn, Time-Stop at the ready, trying to find him.
Finally went up to my room thinking he'd be waiting to ambush me there, and "oh hey so they're betraying me already? OK then."
Had a roughly similar experience, only I assumed it was the outside collecting a due.
Then I was pissed with Samuel and Martin. Figured that Pendleton and Havelock would backstab me. Other two, less so.
This game is, indeed, rad. Boss if you will. Boss Hogg even.
It takes me forever and a day to finish a mission, because I must pass judgement upon almost all the NPC's in a given area. I observe them from a perch and use the gross ass heart to reveal info about them to me. Psycho killer people must be removed from this world.
Those three guards on the bridge in the first mission all had to go. I wasn't fully used to the game yet, so it was a sloppy fight. Took guy 1 down with a bullet. Guy 2 came at me with his sword, but I moved and he struck the railing, his sword clanged and he flipped over the side to his death. Parried guy 3 and he was decapitated.

Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
is there any way to complete the mission without killing her like there was with the twins and the high overseer?
Yes.
You'll meet a man (I think at the party) who has an extremely unnerving obsession with her and somehow knows what your intention is. He'll tell you to bring her unconscious to the cellar so he can take her away 'somewhere safe.' That's the nonlethal option for her.

...The Outsider just sort of powering up various people throughout the city to see what will happen. Like the entire universe is his plaything.
I wonder why you might find that interesting, Granny...
There were quite a few times I wanted to kill everyone. But I wanted to do a low chaos play through so I stuck to my guns.
You mean you stuck to your crossbow and choking.
Sneaking. It's an absolute joy to blink through Dunwall's skyline.
And you're still probably playing with Time Stop or Possession.
Did you know that there are banners near Kaldwin's bridge you can clamber up on to gain access to the bridge without having to bother with the guards or arc pylon? I bet you didn't.

So? It's a game. You can pretend its not.
(PSN: Morninglord) (Steam: Morninglord) (WiiU: Morninglord22) I like to record and toss up a lot of random gaming videos here.
It's pretty fun. It's split up into different categories. The combat DLC is basically just "kill as many people in as many crazy ways as you can before dying" so that's pretty great. The stealth ones are all about sneaking around and assassinating a target or stealing stuff or whatever without being seen. The race ones are all about running around and blinking to checkpoints - think Mirror's Edge except you can teleport. There's a good mix of challenges and there are leaderboards if you like that sort of thing. I would recommend going for it if you like dicking around or challenging yourself, whereas if you like exploring the areas slowly and just finding stuff, or you like the whole integrated experience, waiting for the later story based DLC is probably a better idea.
Just finished up a low chaos playthrough and realized that I not only want to do a second high chaos, revenge fueled, killing spree but that I now want to try and get the dang zero kills, zero alarm playthroughs done. I'm sure that won't end up being frustrating at all, but hey - at least I can get back to enjoying some time bending, blinking, release the rat pack gameplay!
The achievements have the qualifier of "after the prologue" so I think there is some leeway in there somewhere. Definitely something I'll have to look into before attempting it.
Is it even possible to make it out of Coldgate without being spotted? Seems like when you
blow the door open and jump in the river, you're guaranteed to be seen.
Also, do the two guys that get eaten by rats count against "Clean Hands"? How do I save them?
Yes, at least to achieve that "Ghost" checkbox.
Blowing up the gate puts all the guards on the map into alert (except possibly the guards posted on the wall). But it takes them awhile to open the inner gates to get to the bridge, so you should be able to jump into the water unseen. Likewise the guards on the wall have two states. One where they are "suspicious" and have white lightning bolt gauges that gradually fill as you stay in their sight and "the jig is up," where the gauges turn red and vanish. I end up swimming up under the dam/wall and crouch-walk into the sewers.
Keep in mind that the explosion will kill any guards you place into the dumpster by the door.
Pretty cool death, falling over a railing after going off-balance.
No, I'm serious. That would usually be scripted or just impossible.
I love that about this game. I remember one time in particular I teleported up onto a cat walk and there was a guard standing right in front of me that I didn't see so I shot him in the head.....it went PING and his helmet flew into the air and he toppled sideways over the railing, his screams fading into the distance until the final, muted splash far below.

I think I know why people say the last level is more awesome with high chaos, and I agree!
Now off to do the non-lethal one. I think I'm gonna do a "reject the Outsiders offer" playthrough, so no using powers; The agility upgrade is an exception though.

Possession level 2 is freaking HILARIOUS. If for no other reason, getting a guard to move from a static patrol spot you don't want him in.
Where do you appear after ending possession on humans anyways?

Closing the huge door in that room before working on the exit door will buy you a few extra seconds to escape.
If you did it right, that door never opened before the explosion.
