So I thought I was pretty decent at tower defense games but uh...is Sanctum just brutal, or am I just not playing correctly?
I tried the first stage on medium difficulty and once I get about to phase 6 or so I just get destroyed. None of the available turrets do a damn thing against those swarm guys. My assault rifle handles them ok but building up other turrets for the bigger guys I have no funds left over to upgrade.
Are you supposed to dump your turrets each phase and build wave specific turrets?
No, but it certainly feels that way. The game is just difficult on anything above casual. I don't mind a challenge, but the balance seriously feels a bit off on anything above easy.
Remember that you can build the basic blocks for dirt cheap. I had success building a lot of my maze before having a whole lot of towers.
Welp, Civ V is inexorably drawing me in. So far I have played Rome, Russia, and got my ass kicked as England. Are the other civilizations DLC? Cause I don't see them.
There are a lot of other Civs in the base game. But I think I have 3-4 as DLC and I know I don't have the vikings at least. I like it as it adds additional variety into the game, but I play mostly Play by Email games that take AGES, so you get to consider all of your cities and options.

Oh yeah, I know I have a whole bunch of Civs to go.
Just installed the 1920x1080 patch for Vampire: Bloodlines and it looks bloody amazing. It's things like this (fan-made patches) that make PC gaming great.
I think I might be hopping back into the sale for some last minute purchases. Sanctum and Two Worlds 2 might end up on my backlog tonight.
For everyone who's like me and just now getting into X3:
Install this mod, including the Cockpit Mod and Trails Mod addons. Installation of them is kind of wonky, so read the installation guide in that post carefully.
A friend told me that these are ESSENTIAL, and while I don't really have a baseline to compare the rebalance mod itself, the cockpit and trails mods do make the game a lot prettier.
Ive been watching this guy's tutorials, he has a bunch of them and its helped me feel a lot less lost.

I'll watch the first couple, since I've done a couple missions already, to see if I like them... But frankly, I LOVE the feeling of being lost in this game, and don't see myself hastening to eliminate it. Being lost and overwhelmed is the appropriate way to feel in outer space.
edit: oh god, he's not using a cockpit mod... I hate how the game looks without one.
My friends are trying to peer pressure me into the magicka complete pack, but I am skeptical about some of those DLC items in the bundle.
Can anyone with the bundle comment on which bits are essential?
Vietnam is the only essential one, but Nippon purchases are donated to Japan relief so I consider both of them essential.
Was considering buying just Retribution on Amazon, but decided to just go for the THQ hits pack. I've been wanting to play Metro 2033 and Darksiders, and wouldn't mind having Steam versions of TQ. The other two DoW2 games are also things I'd eventually want, so getting the whole thing made sense. RF:G I had gifted over winter, bought STALKER for $2 a long time ago, and have CoH and OppFronts already and probably paid around $30 for both of them years ago.

Im going to need a link to this.
It's built into the fan-made 7.5 patch: (CLICK HERE)
Go into the Vampire steam directory, go into extras, and run the "ResPatch" application. Voila. Game from 2004 that looks really nice on a modern computer.
So are the Civ 5 dlc packs actually worth having? I am fairly new to Civ in general, I got 4 in the winter sale and played it off and on for a few games. Civ 5 seems like a much more accessable game so far and I can see getting a lot of time out of it.
The Vikings one seems cool, but what about the Cradle of Civ. pack is that just maps?

I don't get much mileage out of the extra scenarios, but new civs are always cool

If you care about achievements you cant mod the game to any great degree. Any mod that gives your saved game a ***Modified*** tag removes your ability to get achievements.
Its not a big deal in the slightest, but I know some people really want to get those cheevos man

If you want to get the achievements out of the way and just get on with playing the game with mods, you can always download a save file with everything completed. Well, most everything.
So is there ever a point when I actually get to download teh games I payed for? I've been trying to download portal 2 for 3 days now. How can their servers be busy for three days straight? It's not loke I can queu it for download or anything since it won't even let me get that far. This is bullshit.

servers are super overloaded due to the summer sale.
By the end of the week I imagine things will be back to normal (a week because of all the people still trying to download games that will not download yet)

Is it bullshit when you go to Taco Bell at 12:30 and the place is packed?
How about when you go to the grocery store at 6:30 PM on Friday the 1st?
Try changing your download location to a country on the other side of the world and see if that boosts your download speeds.

Hmmm now to decide if I want more stuff for a game I am definitely liking or to get more games that I don't know about.
I think I am going to pass on Vampire for this time, since I haven't really had the urge to get it yet and it feels like a steam thread peer pressure purchase. I like the look of Aquaria and will probably get that. Nyxquest is something I never heard of til today but looks fun and is $2.50.
So I think I am to the point where it's either Vikings, Babylon, Poly., Spanish, and Incan dlc for Civ V or Vampire. And getting Nyxquest and Aquaria
I just bought Dwarves, Delve Deeper, and Guardians of Graxia because I had already earned more than enough tickets for every item for every game I owned. o.o

It would be bullshit if they made you give them the money without telling you that you were going to have to wait in line for three days before you could get your Potatoes 2.
If they've already taken your money, you have every right to be upset that you haven't gotten a product in return.
Also, he's right about download queueing. It's stupid that you can't just tell it to download, and let it retry the connection every once in a while. You have to manually initiate it over and over until it works.

Figgy and Iolo are both the classiest of gents for surprising me with the Longest Journey pack and X-Com Apocalypse, respectively.
I gave myself a limit of $25 which I put in my Steam wallet. Here's the final tally:
Bought for myself:
Audiosorf
BIT.TRIP RUNNER
The Final Hours of Portal 2
The Longest Journey + Dreamfall
Zuma's Revenge
Bought for Others:
Defense Grid: The Awakening
Foreign Legion: Buckets of Blood
Received as a Gift from a Classy Gentleman:
Frozen Synapse
Sanctum
and Tickets Redeemed For:
Alien Breed 2
Portal 2 Snorkels
TF2 Sunglasses
SpaceChem DLC (even though I didn't bite on the full game - I was really hoping it would have let me redeem for the Defense Grid DLC even though I already own it so that I could gift it to some unfortunate soul that has not already played them.
And after all that I have a little over $2.50 left in my wallet to spend another time. Very happy with how this sale went for me.:)
Man, did I really get through these sales with just Oblivion + DLC for $8.50, and Lara Croft + DLC for $7.18 (Plus a gifted copy for another $7.18). I'm only out around 23 bucks. I'm surprised.

So I got:
-Darksiders
-Trine
-Atom Zombie Smasher
-Lara Croft & the Guardian of Light (already had on 360 but I love it so much I bought it again :P)
-Terraria
Not a bad haul. I've spent most of the time playing Darksiders though because that game is awesome Atom Zombie Smasher was pretty fun too, though now that I've beaten the longer campaign/whatever I sort of feel like I've gotten most of the enjoyment I'm going to get out of it already.
Man, I bought like all the DLCs for all the games.
Shogun 2, Civilization 5, Just Cause, Gratuitous Space Battles, Magicka, Fallout: New Vegas, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Defense Grid, Fallout 3, Kane and Lynch 2, and RUSE.

It's been awhile since I beat Mine on Medium with 100% of my core left, but IIRC it was something similar to this.
Those circles are lightning turrets
You can probably do a bit more with that upper section, but I pretty much left it alone in favor of upgrading my already existing gauntlet
Made sure to upgrade my assault to 6 by the end, and had all lightning turrets at 3-4 I want to say
Feel free to prostrate yourselves before both my strategic acumen and also my mad paint skills

I was asking to take part in a 4 pack earlier. Between you and me we only need to find two more guys willing to take part.
I bet it's worth $2.50. Join in and we'll just need one more.
