I find levels to be most important for arty and barricades, and to some degree the infantry (even one point in accuracy and speed each helps a ton for weeding out those last few to finish a day...).

In fact, I think both my plays have given me artillery first. Is it all random or what? I feel like I get artillery, infantry and barricade or dynamite the earliest. Early levels with bait + multi-shot artillery = MONEY.

Making ramps with planks and making staircases out of boxes isn't fun anymore. There must be more interesting physics puzzles to put in platformers.

God, that Cold Stream level is ridiculous. Plowing through tunnels against an endless horde is a little stupid. Never again.

Anyway, I think this is the lowest ME2 has ever been, though ME1 was $1.80 cheaper before. The chances of them going on sale at Christmas before the finale comes out in March is pretty good, so if you wanted to pick up just the first or hold off, you'll probably be okay.

Artillery is indeed pretty great. Infantry is probably my second favorite simply because it is so adaptable. Snipers get pretty good after a level or two, and barricades allow some great control. Don't care for most of the explosives.

I'm still really waffling over Fallout 3 GOTY. I have access to it with all DLC on 360, so I'd only be getting it for modding purposes. But then I also already have New Vegas which is, in my opinion, far better than Fallout 3.

And then Universe Sandbox looks incredibly cool, but I'm sort of iffy on it because I'm not sure how much time I'd really end up putting into it. The concept is amazing and the description makes it seem really interesting, but I'm not convinced it's a good purchase for me.

So hey you guys, it looks like that big fanpatch now works on the Steam version of Jagged Alliance II after all. Got about $10 left to spend against my self-imposed limit for the sale, I know what I may be doing with five of it if nothing comes along to rock my world over the weekend.

Has anyone played Delve Deeper? It looks like something I'd enjoy, but it's not on sale despite being a ticket DLC item.

Ok, I'll give you a rundown on Delve Deeper.

It's like a digital boardgame, with the tile placing mechanic that is popular in European board games. There are a bunch of maps in the base game. Each map has fragmented dungeon sections. Teams are configurable between Miners, Warriors and Scouts. You can mix and match any combination you like, and their functions are pretty obvious by their names. Teams of Dwarves mine by placing a tile each turn to connect the dungeon/mine fragments. As you Delve Deeper you gain access to more valuable mines, more dangerous monsters (who carry more impressive loot), and Lost Relics which can give your dudes a bonus as well as rack up more cash for your score. You turn in the wealth you mine, loot or steal by pummeling other teams at your base or at a Gnome Bank. At the end of a set amount of turns, who ever has procured the most wealth is announced the winner by the Dwarf King.

The mechanics are simple but there is a surprising amount of strategy. For example, when placing a tile, do you open up an immediately accessible area? Do you try to network more valuable tunnels deeper in your region while your team harasses a nearby team or hunts monsters for loot? Or do you place the tile in the neighborhood of another team in a location that will flood his area with monsters? I think this game would be far more popular if it had an on-line mode for multiplayer, but as it stands it's only got hotseat play. The AI in Single Player is pretty damn good at playing the game though, and provides for plenty of fun. Top it off with some decent humor, a level editor and fun artwork and you get a pretty good value in my opinion.

I recently had an awesome long campaign in AZS, where I was doing ok in the beginning, but then I suddenly had a ton of level 4 outbreaks and didn't get my artillery until last. By the time I was around the 25% mark, the zombies were pulling ahead past the 50% mark in what looked like an unwinnable game (They were as much as 6000 points ahead for a while).

But somehow I started to pull together and slowly start taking back land from those dam zeds. A few missions had to be abandoned because I didn't have the right team (Level 4 outbreak with barricades, bait , landmines, and charges? sure....) But a lot I ended up redoing over and over until I could take out every last one of them before nightfall. In the end after 5 long years of fighting the undead I won the game with less than 2000 point difference.

Yeah, I picked it up at half off in a different sale. I found it by going through the strategy games organized into a Cheapest First category. What surprises me the most about it not having any online play is that it's from the same people that did Plain Sight, which is a on on-line action game. You'd think a quick paced TBS game like this wouldn't be as hard to network as an action game.

But regardless of that, it's still fun to play. The simple mechanics means the AI can handle the various situations logically (if not always comptetently) so I find it a good way to spend some time gaming while hanging out with my son. He enjoys the game too for its cartoony graphics and action, so I'm looking forward to when he's old enough to learn how to play. Then we can hotseat it. That's probably the soonest I'll get to do any multiplayer though, unless the devs patch in network play.

Yes, I bought Garshasp and played a bit of it. I wasn't expecting much and it was piss cheap, but I was still disappointed. Most of my issues were technical. The game lags and stutters something fierce in many areas, even though it isn't doing much. The levels are simple and lacking in detail, there are only a handful of enemies on screen at any given time, and there are no visual effects to speak of.

For a first try from a small indie outfit, it's quite good and I do very much appreciate that they didn't just go for another puzzle or tower defense game, but looking at it purely as a game, it's lacking.

What made me stop playing Garshasp is that the controls (at least on the 360 controller) are both really awkward and cannot be re-mapped. If the controls were more fluid I could put up with the other weird technical issues.

I do have to give kudos to the developer for having the ambition to make a God Of War clone rather than a lo-fi retro thing.

    Ok here's my conundrum.

When I started playing video games it was the SNES and 2d platformers. That was all fine and dandy until the PSX and I was introduced to the turn based RPG. I never looked back. Unfortunately that love was not shared by this generation of gamemakers, leaving me with an average final fantasy and an odd little gun-fu title on my PS3. I've also discovered as I turned more and more to my computer for gaming that it was a genre almost nonexistent. I've found some cool little gems like kings bounty (more of an SRPG as I understand it) but my favorite genre of gaming is sorely lacking.

How worth it is Last Remnant for someone in my position? Even if it probably breaks my budget for the rest of the sale?

Pre-release stuff looked good, 360 reception was bad, things where changed for PC, current reception is ???

It was actually the first time I played the game. I went through the first 3 or so levels to get a feel for it, then went on the OoB challenges. Teslas just tear right through shielding, which helps alot.

Heck I think all I used was Tesla's with the occasional Concussion in the mix for huge swarms (worked really nicely in the middle of created paths and such. Stuck a few Missles next to the base in case of flyers (found that out the hard way), and maybe a Meteor or two on some of the later levels (mainly on the farther out platforms that tesla's couldnt reach from.
