I'm having trouble with my commitment - getting urges to dabble chaotically in all my new games at once, rather than stay calm and finish off what I'm doing first. They are just sitting there, waiting, calling to me. As opposed to my previous backlog, which is just sitting there, looking rather forlorn since some of 'em have been pushed even further back in my gaming priorities.
Getting a wireless received so I could use a 360 pad was one of the big forces that got me back into PC gaming.
Baby steps. ;-)
I'm sure that part of it is that my wife insists on wireless keyboard and mouse, and I don't feel like arguing with her (we've recently gone back to a wired mouse because the wireless one broke, and neither of us feels like buying a new anything right now, but that's neither here nor there). I played Gears 1 on PC using that wireless keyboard and mouse, and it was terrible. Played Batman: AA sometime later once I got a 360 receiver and it was wonderful.
It certainly helps that most of the games I'm drawn to are either ports from consoles or indie games designed with controller support in mind. I just finished BIT.TRIP RUNNER this morning and did the whole thing with the 360 pad. I honestly can't imagine how much harder it would have been to use the keyboard. It was hard enough with a nice comfy controller.
I never used Canderous (or HK-47 except for Taris & Dantooine respectively; saving them for my darkside playthrough). So I sold his armor.
I was wondering why he was naked, standing in the back. Skeevy.
Yeah, it made me giggle a bit because I had forgotten about selling his stuff. Caught me a bit by surprise.
I started up Ben There, Dan That! afterwards. I have to say though, it's not really grabbing me. I've only mildly snickered at a couple parts. And some of the solutions just aren't very intuitive. I had to read a non-spoiler hint guide to figure out what to do to get past the Zomboy. Why the hell would anyone think to do that?
And the (almost) complete lack of sound is kinda bugging me. Ok, so you don't want to do a V.O.? Fine, I don't mind reading. But atleast give me some fucking music or something. If I wanted to read text in silence for hours, I pick up a book.
I am going to run a contest on Thursday for 4 players with mount and blade warband. 830 pm est. Fallout new Vegas and x3 are the prizes for first and second place - 1st place's choice. Third places prize is not receiving farming simulator 2011; fourth place must play farming simulator for ten minutes and post screenshots. PM me and I will take the first four and start a wait list.
Oh man, tempted to enter that just for Farming Simulator 2011.
I... I think I might have a simulator addiction.
I used to laugh at the sim people, until I saw this in someones steam sig
If either Rainbow or Slash are reading this (or anybody else who is knowledgeable about this):
Is there any way in Cthulhu Saves the World to go Fullscreen while keeping the game's native aspect ratio on an old 5:4 CRT screen? (i.e. with black bars)
Sadly, no. I tried to get a full screen native aspect ratio mode to work but couldn't figure out how to do so without completely rewriting the entire graphics engine. Maybe in our next game.
Also, a little bug report (I think): I somehow managed to confuse the game so that for a while, my character was running when B was NOT pressed, and slowed down while I pressed B (i.e. reversed behavior). My guess is that I did something (like enter the menu perhaps) while still pressing B.
As a few people have mentioned, there's a Run toggle button which you may have accidentally pressed. You can see what button it is in the controls option.
I'm the same, 360 controller has really got me back in to PC gaming. Having a media computer hooked up to a 50" HTPC and 7.1 amp helps too
I didn't realize 360 controller support had become as big as it has. Playing Just Cause 2 on the PC is really no different than on the 360 (I imagine, anyway). Too inconvenient to play on my TV, though, and the controller's cord likes to get tangled up in my chair.
In other news, I want to like X3 but I get pretty awful load times. And last night I undocked from a station and my ship immediately crashed into the station and killed me.

So it turns out for Vampire that the reason the third person cursor was so messed up was because the numpad controls different viewing angles.
That's...pretty silly.
That's reminiscent of how flight simulators control viewing angles. I wonder if that was an influence.
Yes it is.
I used to have this fantasy for X-Wing vs Tie Fighter of building a giant "cockpit" simulator with PC screens at every one of those angles some how programmed to show the appopriate view. And I had a voice chat system setup with 23 other players who had similiar setups.
We were our own squadron.
We were unbeatable
Fixed that for you since every pilot needs a R2 unit on the keyboard.
This. A thousand times this. I have awesome childhood memories of playing one of the earlier X-Wing games with not one but TWO friends on the keyboard as my R2 units.
Trying to recapture that magic while playing Silent Hunter 4 with a "crew" just isn't working. Maybe if I add an admiral's hat and speak like Sean Connery.
So Dungeons of Dredmor, the roguelike with the Disney-style graphics, is supposed to show up on Steam for $5 today. They said that they had some "reason" for it being so cheap to start, and that they would announce it yesterday, but as far as I can see, they never did. I fear they intend to DLC the crap out of it.
Still, the game itself looks interesting, and is worth a look for us masochists who love a good roguelike.

I've played the beta and it's well worth the $5 they're charging.
I feel bad for whoever gets the daily deals right after a steam sale. It doesn't matter if you want it you'll be broke. Or at the very least find yourself in the position of trying to justify buying another game with a huge existing backlog. Even the most devout follower of the Newell finds his faith tested in these trying circumstances.
So I'm glad they made todays deal baseball. Moving swiftly on.... :P

So is it hard for indy devs to get their games onto the coming soon tab or to allow pre-orders on Steam? I'm just wondering since neither of the games I plan to buy today are getting any advance notice.

I was wondering this too. Are those things that need a publisher's help to be pushed through or what?

When I asked our Steam guy about this, he said that they usually don't do preorders for indie games. Here's the quote he gave me:
"We have not had success offering preorders on Indie games in the past. It also takes away from the launch week marketing we can do, such as 10% off for the first week."
So there you have it. I imagine for really huge indie games, they'd do preorder pages, but for most, they've found it's not worth it.
I'm getting it for the undulating Thrusties alone.
It looks like fun, anyone buy it yet that can comment on it? I could use a good roguelike, I was playing Stone Soup for quite some time, if this can even hold a candle to SS, Ill buy t.

I haven't played it but the few comments I've read from people in the beta have all been a "blowjob from Jehovah" level of praise.

It was half off during the sale but still out of my impulse price range... for a sim game.
I have a terrifying feeling if this ever drops below $10 i will spend an inordinate amount of time with it.

a) 3D Stereoscopic support
b) Uncompressed 7.1 channel audio support
c) Someone to fan me whilst I play it, it's hot today
If not, well, I just can't see how you can justify the price.

If you don't buy it, Clownthulhu will come to your kids birthday parties. All of them. Is $3 worth your children's sanity?

This game sounds awesome!
But clicking on it takes me back to the front page.
Probably a side effect of the pack sales being extended one day. I doubt it's really $75 any more.
I have so many random games from so many various sources its really not worth it to seperate them imo. They all just go under "PC" for me.

Yeah, it'll do that. My boyfriend got it and was all "I don't like this much" and turned it off.
Two days later I find out he has the molten armour and vine lash.
