I thought Steam sales were bad enough by themselves. But now that I'm back into TF2, er Hat Fortress 2, the combined allure of ridiculous discounts on games with bonus hats or weapons for TF2 is like the ultimate siren call. Did I need the Quakecon pack? No. Not at all. I have a backlog so large that I've had to brainwash myself into referring it to a game bank like a good servant of the Newell. Only after the summer camp event I don't think game bank even covers it. I could probably stop buying games for the next 3-5 years and still not run out of unplayed/unfinished experiences. I won't stop buying games though, because I'm like a damn junkie. This is more like a sacred trust now, waiting for my 3-month old son to come of age and take up the mantle.
The Mantle of the Hat.
Now if you'll excuse me I need to go see if I can turn this Strange Knife into a Strange Backburner. And place another pre-order or two. For the baby.
Since new page, if anyone that preorderd Skyrim would want a 10 dollar game of your choice in exchange for trading me the Elder Scrolls pack (since you get 5 dollars off) please hit me up on Steam or send a PM.

I just cannot pull the trigger on Skyrim for $60. I just can't. I'm sure it'll be awesome, but the extra $5 saved on the other Elder Scrolls games isn't worth the extra $55.
So, Ive been pleasantly surprised by Brink but I think my expectations were super low. I dont think Im $25 surprised though, plus I have no idea if Im playing with bots or people.

I have to find puzzle pieces. Okay but I can't jump high enough to grab that one. Huh...or that one. Oh hey I can reverse time if I die. Oh hey I can reverse time and get the key back that I just used but the door stays open. That's pretty nifty, I'm starting to get why people like this game! Wait I finished the level? And could only reach one puzzle piece? Fuck.
If I remember correctly, all puzzle pieces CAN be obtained when you get to them. Metroid this is not. How many hours it will take you to come to a revelation is another matter.
I actually slept on it one night and a solution was in my head when I woke up. Wonderful moment.
This is true for puzzle pieces. Every level's puzzles are self-contained - you don't go to another world and get a powerup and come back.
End-game (?) content spoilers
This is not true of stars, unless they've changed something since the last time I played. You can miss a star on a play through and have to restart.
Wait, WHAT? I've gotten all the puzzle pieces and beaten Braid, and I have no idea what you're talking about. I thought the jigsaw puzzles were it. Explain in a non-spoilery manner?
I've got to stop hunting for Quake/2 mods and maps. So much time and effort being spent on chasing a nostalgic dream.
Anyway, is there anything close to a single definitive source port for Quake and Quake 2? I'm currently using Darkplaces for Quake and KMQuake2 for Q2, and QTracker for a server browser. The setup I have seems to work well enough for both games since I can launch the games from Steam and have stuff like game time tracking and the Steam overlay, but if there are improvements I could be making I'm open to suggestions.

ezQuake is currently my favorite Quake sourceport.
r1q2 is my favorite thing for playing Quake II on-line.
EGL seems to be what has become the standard eye candy Quake 2 source port. I've never used it, so I don't personally have anything to say about it. Others were Q2Max and Q2Evolved, but they seem to have been abandoned/fallen out of favor.
I know it isn't Steam, but this weekend Direct2Drive has a sale on a handful of shooters. 60% off, so you can get Bulletstorm for $12, Section 8: Prejudice for $6, Borderlands GOTY Edition for $12. Crysis 2 and Fear 3 for $30. http://www.direct2drive.com/
It pains me a bit to even report this, but in the interest of saving people cash, EA/Origin has a number of games marked down to $5 right now, including stuff like Bad Company 2, Mirror's Edge, and Burnout Paradise.

If anyone can tolerate the one-two punch of not being Steam and being GFWL, I'd say that despite its flaws Bulletstorm is well worth $12 if you're in the mood for some Big Fucking Shooting.

And for the record, Mirror's Edge is incredible and gorgeous and so worth $5. Buuuut it'll probably be on sale for the same by Christmas, assuming further lunacy doesn't result it in being pulled from Steam too.

I loved it on 360. I'm not sure I'm willing to buy it twice.
Wonderful, wonderful game. The best way to play is with as little guns as possible. Guns are for those parts where it's a pain otherwise.

There's one more secret. I almost consider it a worse ending:
In between the title screen and the house where the chapters are, there is an area with stars in the sky. Seven very well hidden stars can be found in the game and put in the sky. One of them for example, requires using a puzzle piece from chapter 1 before it's completed because it creates a bridge. So if you don't know about it, you can permanently miss it. So what happens when you get all but the last one?...
The final stage where the princess is fleeing from you changes it's platforming a little. Tim can climb to the chandelier and touch her.
She flickers and glows white, and the screen flashes white. A huge explosion is heard. She dissapears and everything turns silent. The player can collect the last star in her room then head to the epilogue like normal.
The player ends up at the beginning past the epilogue, but the stars in the sky now draw an outline of Cassiopia, depicting the princess in chains

I'm confused and disturbed by the fact that I can't find Half-Life 2 on your list.

Yeah, I've got portal 2 on 360 for now, so I think I'll wait until the xmas sale for that one.
I just found out Gamestop has the DoW2: Retribution for like 15 bones. Is it worth the price? Anyone have experience with it? http://www.impulsedriven.com/dow2ret

I had half life (Bought the black box way back in the day) and got my account hacked. I had played through it a bunch of times, and didn't have the money to go back and buy it again.
Darksiders is 5 bucks at Gamersgate TRV. I'd say Retirbution and that are a pretty good combo for 20 bucks.

So many games!
Problem is, I've got/played quite a few of them on 360, and while I want a PC copy also, I think I may gravitate more towards titles I don't have. I put about 80+ hours into F:NV already, and if I start a new character on a new platform, I'll never finish the one I have, haha.

Oh, I understand.
I'm trying to think through what I've got on 360... uhhh...
Portal 2, Darksiders, F:NV, F3, Mass effect 1+2, Dragon age 1+2, Bioshock 1+2, all the halos, and some other things that are not coming to mind. OH. borderlands too.

So to get the serial key for Dow2 Retribution from gamestop I had to
1: Buy it
2: Download their software
3: Login there
4: Wait for it to... do... something
5: Copy the key
6: Input into steam
7: Activate
8: Uninstall their crappy software.
Have you ever played adventure games? The Longest Journey is one of the best. The Monkey Island series is great too.

You can actually increase the amount you donate on their website, I upped mine to $10 from 5.
It is pretty though.
Sadly it's all stuttery on my machine

Uh, genre preferences? Games you've already played and enjoyed? Help us to bankrupt help you.
A shorter list would be what i DON'T like: racing games.
I like shooters, I play TF2 a lot, but I also enjoy puzzle games, and co-op games, etc.

HAH. I bought brink on 360 from amazon. It was returned for a refund after about three rounds of "playing"
