PunkBuster and/or Windows services issue

Picked up bad company 2 recently, and haven't managed to get 10 minutes of ranked playtime total yet. It seems that what is happening is that when I start Bad Company 2 something immediately attempts to uninstall the PnkBstrB.exe service, or at least leaves in a state where it is marked for deletion on logout. This then causes a punkbuster error as it tries to start a service that can not be started until its reinstalled.

So, I either need to figure out and correct whatever is trying to stop the service, or simply prevent the service from being stopped. Any thoughts?

Windows 7 x64, I've tried all the usual un/reinstall stuff that the internet suggested. Only thought I have left is reinstall windows.

Punkbuster is always a fucking hassle to the max. My steps for fixing its myriad problems goes like this, if any one step solves the problem, you're done!

    1. Use the update client thing to download all the new updates (Doesn't seem like it, but this solve 90% of problems)
    2. Cry
    3. Reinstall punkbuster (could work, but you tried it)
    4. Cry

For you though I'm thinking you might have some antivirus stuff getting in the way. I don't know what else would be actively trying to stop PunkBuster, but clearly whoever is doing it is on the right track because Punkbuster qualifies as malware in my book, lol. Anyways, disable any antivirus stuff you have running. See if that works. Past that I'm starting to think about maybe permissions errors but I can't really solve it without knowing more.

Try this stuff and report back

Amusingly enough, I just got done mucking about with permissions. It doesn't seem to matter how they're set on that file, the same thing happens (including everything set for deny every option for everything I could think of). Tried it without any antivirus running, same thing happens.

At this point, I just wish I knew what was so very successful at stopping PunkBuster, because I want to be able to use it on other things.

edit: should mention, tried the update when I was doing the reinstall, didn't seem to do anything. I suspect my next step is to reinstall windows and cross my fingers

edit 2: I should rephrase slightly. With the permissions set to no one can do anything, the file stays there after I log out and then back in, which didn't happen before. That's the only change though.

edit 3: neither reinstalling windows nor gin has helped things. On the upside, I'm fairly certain its a bug in PunkBuster or Bad Company 2 at this point.

Wow that sounds serious if a fucking windoze re-install didn't kill it. Sorry man. If I was there in person maybe I could mind meld with your machine but I'm stumped.
