So my ipod is enjoying deleting the 70 gigs of music I put on to it every time I decide to plug it into my machine.

It's doing this. Every time.

Please oh god please make it stop.

Are you plugging it into the same computer that you used to put the music on in the first place?

    Yes.

And now even after re putting music on it... I unplug and nothing is there.

I think I'm going to cry.

Make sure iTunes isn't set to auto-update the music or whatever the setting is.

Yes. Make sure your ipod is set to "manually manage songs in itunes" mode. You do this by right clicking your ipod icon in itunes when it's turned on.

(there are a lot of "i"s in this post)

Yeah they basically go under the assumption that everyone uses thier IPod wiht only Itunes on a single computer. Course no one actually does that.

My ipod was acting kinda funky so I re-formated it to the factory settings and it fixed it.

Not only that, but they assume that you are going to have every song on your ipod on your computer and vice versa. First thing I did was turn it off too. That and the auto-start itunes when you plug in the ipod.
