I doubt Wiiconnect24 would be the problem. The system was made to do it. More than likely my Wii just has a bad video card that didn't rear it's ugly head until just recently. Oh well, Nintendo will make it all betta.

Well, I'm not sure what else could be the problem. All I know is that I'm not going to be taking any chances, because I don't know if I get another warranty with this one or not.
I've updated the OP with a new section on syncing remotes. Seems to be one of those things you have to deal with that isn't well documented.
I just picked up two more remotes today and sync'd them both as soon as I got home. I think it bears mentioning that it doesn't seem to matter whether the remote or the console sync is pressed first, since I've tried it both ways.
My only wii problem is a 2nd remote that likes to disconnect constantly. Like, all the damn time.
Check the batteries. That started to happen with my first remote not long after I got my system; I swapped them out and it's been fine since. I think the batteries they ship with are just crap.

Watch out, a Zim-Bear is about to have sex with yooooooou!
I just picked up a Wii two days ago.
My only concern is that it gets pretty warm to the touch, even in stand-by mode. It's placed vertically with the circular base attached and in an area that's well ventilated...
Should I be worried/mildly concerned? Or is that level of heat just a side effect of WiiConnect24..?
I'm pretty brokecash, so I don't want to accidentally brick this baby a few months down the road.
With regard to opening up the wii, the machine is pretty sturdy and compactly built. With the machine open I didn't try a gamecube disc but I did try a standard wii disc. The disc is pulled in, drops a little on to the spindle and I think it locks in place here, there's a noise which indicates such and then (memory may not serve me well here), metallic sections lock slightly in place around the disc (not touching it).
I take it if you pop in a gamecube disc these metallic sections will come in even further. With the lid off it, wii sports inside and game running I've tipped the console upside down and on it's side and had absolutely no problems with it. It's a robust little bugger.
That's from memory from a few weeks back but I wasn't really looking at how the drive mechanism was behaving, I was just fiddling.
Something I'm wondering. I've seen a lot of pictures of people showing off their gaming setups. Of all the ones I've seen with a Wii and showing off how/where they put the remotes, I realize that I haven't seen the Nunchuk. What do you guys do with your nunchuks? I can never seem to keep that cord together with it. It always wants to spring out and be like a messy wire.
I finally thought to wrap it and then have it held together by the remote's wrist strap, and that's been working well.
Other than that, anyone else have any new tips we didn't think of months ago?
My Wii Sports disc has mysteriously stopped working despite having very few small scratches. Where can I get a new one?
This happened to my brother's friend. He called Nintendo and they sent a new one. They didn't mind doing this because since Wii Sports is packaged with the system, they knew he wasn't trying to get a free game to sell.
Sweet. I haven't tried calling since it's sunday but I'll call them tomorrow.
Just this weekend my Wii Sports is acting silly. It will freeze up when I try to play 2-player Bowling. 1-player, 3-player...they all work, but 2-player freezes up every time. I guess I'll try getting a new one, though I'd rather know what's making it mess up.
OMGOSH! If and when I get into this next generation of consoles, i will need to set up a wireless network to handle all the awsome, and then devise the most awsome of passwords to guard it against my neighbors. We need a suspicious emoticon.

THe USB connecter works a hell of alot better if you get the updates from nintendowifi.com I had trouble before with the wii only wanting to connect some of the time but lately both the DS and the Wii have been connecting without a problem.
JUst be advised that if you turn your computer off that Wiiconnect24 tends to get angry. And everytime theres a connection you get a little sound and a tiny popup thingy on your computer and I havent figured out how to turn that off (if its even possible)
Also if you do turn Wiiconnect24 off it will still connect when you have the system on. I know ive had it connect during the main menu and during the Mii channel so if you leave it idle long enough you can still get your Mii updates.
THe other thing with Miis though is that you dont want to have alot of buildup so make sure you cheack your updates and either save or delete your traveling Miis. I had a problem for a little bit with the Wii taking a loooooooong ass time to load up channels at first but found that after cleaning out somthing like 145 Miis on my parade that it went back to working like a charm. Ive since turned the parade off just so I dont have to hassle with it.
Does anyone know if the Nyko charging station has it's own power supply, or does it run off one of the USB ports on the back of the Wii? That would be the best option for me as I've completely run out of free slots.

Aside from Wii sports, I find nothing really drawing me to the Wii, I am not a big Zelda fan and would probably delay getting it. But if Harvest moon comes along, then watch out! Anyone have a particular store they recommand buying one from?
How does Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious sound as a password? Most people would give up before putting it in. Thereby securing my network!
I live in a fairly remote area, and none of my closest neighbours have any interest in the 'net, so I didn't bother even putting a password on my wireless network, never mind enabling WPA. A friend told me that someone they knew kept walking close to my house with their PSP, downloading updates and whatever. So, being the clever clogs I am, I quickly renamed the network and slapped a password on there, and I even told that friend to give the PSP owner a little hint - the password is on one of the five stickers adorning my pc case.
But I'm hoping that before he tells him this, before the guy realises he's rumbled, he walks past my house some day soon and try to log on to the network known as, "thepspisaheapofshit". I'm so witty!

So, the Nyko charging station supposedly came out on March 15th. Has anyone here actually used it yet, and if so, any impressions?
Yeah I have it - the grips are pretty nice, but they make the wiimote a little thicker.
The charger is nice, although a little sensitive - you have to find it's sweet spot for the charging light to come on. Otherwise - it does it's job perfectly so far.
Let me say this. I have accidently pulled my wii down 5 feet, and tipped it over from vertical. The disks are fine.
Nintendo tends to be really good about this stuff. Do you have a Gamecube? Look closely at the disc tray sometime. Poke at it. It's on a shock absorber so it can take a drop or rotation without damaging the disc. I'm not surprised if there are similar safeguards in place for the Wii.
Also, my Wii has been accidentally dropped about four feet onto a hard tile surface when the Gamecube controller cord got tripped over. It's got a tiny crack in the front plate but is otherwise fine.
I was hoping to write an article and submit it as part of an application to a gaming blog, but it's just way too relevant not to mention here: Wii stands from BD&A do not have cooling vents. None of them do. BEWARE. This is likely FRYING Nintendo Wii consoles and their video chips.
A friend gave me one for Christmas and I returned it outright (overpriced at $45 anyway). I thanked him anyway, but there was just no way I was subjecting my Wii to that. Ironically, that is exactly what I plan to do now that they are on clearance at Target. It bears the "Seal of Quality" so if I have any problems, I should be covered. This seal on BD&A products is precisely what interests me.
BD&A has always made inferior products to ALS/RLS. It wasn't until the crap-tacular "GameFolio" that they actually started selling GBA pouches in significant quantities, and it was about that time that their presence in the Nintendo accessory market exploded. Before that, they mostly made stuffed character beanies, hats, and T-shirts.
When BD&A introduced their first "Switch 'n' Carry" accessories they also created a DC auto adapter for the GBA. This struck me as odd because Nintendo had never created one and now here was one with a "Seal of Quality." How did it get a SoQ despite being crappier than the crappiest crap? It was nothing like Sony's PSone and PSP auto/air adapters that were as well-built as APC power inverters. Something was fishy.
Over the next couple years, they began to slap Nintendo's seal and the "Switch 'n' Carry" logo on anything and everything no matter how unrelated. Eventually, they messed up by making one of those cheap "3rd-party style" GBA link cables with cheap clear plastic, revealing that they had received "a license to license." You see, it also bore the Official Nintendo Seal of Quality despite being in direct competition with Nintendo's real GBA link cable. I called Nintendo and they said that were aware of no such product!
So now we come to the Wii accessories. The stands are sold in "kits" sometimes including an SD card and usually some remote straps. The SD cards are likely the same crappy ones that are frequently rebranded as pirated SanDisk cards and the like. Only SanDisk was given the honor of being the official Wii SD card. BD&A has gotten so sloppy that only some of the BD&A ones have SoQ logos printed on the packaging! The straps lack the wrist tightener and thereby fail to meet the specifications of even the flawed Nintendo straps (you can't follow directions to tighten it if it isn't there). And now the stands have NO air vent despite the Wii's included stand featuring this. They completely seal the bottom of your Wii. The entire purpose of Nintendo's stand is clearly to provide venthilation in the vertical orientation, so it is an inexcusable oversight by BD&A. I've seen at least three different models sold in at least 10 different sets and all feature this flaw.
The strap are useless, inferior, and dangerous. The stands are useless, inferior, and dangerous. The SD cards are cheap, and semi-official (only some feature the SoQ and all have the same "Switch 'n' Carry" logo). Even if they didn't risk damaging the console and injuring those around you, everything is redundant and worse than the freebies included with the console. This is a rip off like no other.
The public needs to know, but please don't go submitting this to blogs or writing up news stories. Give me a chance (I need... a week maybe?).
Does the Nyko Charger plug into the wall or does it have a USB hookup? The only ones I can find in Canada are USB hookup only, and the Nyko one apparently doesn't come out until May first up here.
Y'know... I keep looking at those 3rd party stands with the DVD case holders and that seems pretty neat. But I knew all along that I'd have to cut a vent in the bottom to accommodate the cooling intake.
Only thing that kept me from doing it was (a) laziness, and (b) can't seem to find just the stand alone (and I don't care about the other crap they bundle in).
but ya, run my Wii vertical, in a semi-confined space: on a shelf in my cabinet, about an inch and a half from the side on th left, about 3 inches from my DVD player on the right, about 1.5 inches from the tallest part of the wii to the top of the cabinet. My Wii has locked up once, other than that, no problems. I run with WiiConnect24 enabled, and go days without playing. It gets warm to the touch, but nothing horrible. The real test will come in summer, when my room gets pretty warm.
As for Wiimote batteries, I use Energizer Rechargables. I have 3 pairs right now for my 2 Wiimotes, which works nicely, as I play 80% single player, so the second wiimote doesn't get used very often. When the batteries in my wavebird eventually die(only on the second set of batteries in 4 years....amazing), I'll buy another set of rechargables, and just cycle them through.
I have a 1GB kingston SD card in it, but it's largely useless right now until you can actually start doing things with it.
Another thing that might be worth noting: The cable for the sensor bar is pretty fragile. It's thin enough to begin with, but I'm afraid of cutting the damn thing in half if I put something on it, or destroying it when I move it. I used to feed the cable through the little cable manager under the sensor bar because the way my bar is set up the cable runs right off to the side. When I went to move the sensor bar, I pulled the cable out, and you could see the notches in the cable where the sensor bar was holding it in. Just something to think about.
So I finally got to put an SD card in my Wii. It has some photos and a couple of videos that my dad took with his digital camera. With that, I showed him the Photo Channel. The photo stuff worked great, but when it came to the videos he had, they only showed about one second and then I was asked if I wanted to play it again. I know I'm not hitting anything as it's playing. Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to make those videos work?

My little brother went into my room when I wasn't home without my permission, used my brand new 46" HDTV without my permission and played with my Wii without my permission. Guess what happened?
While the console certainly looks sexy running vertically, you may want to reconsider. Typically horizontally running disc drives have greater longevity than vertically running ones, as well.
