Computer Freezes Playing Games

Just built a new computer. I had to RMA the mobo but now I have it up and running. Except one part. It crashes after a couple minutes when playing a game.
Things I have tried

1: Memtesting the ram, no errors
2: trying each stick by themselves
3: updating drivers
4: Temps are not high

Still crashes. One thing I did notice though was that the HDD would make a high pitch noise like it was starting, then it would go silent. Then it would repeat that a couple times
just before the blue screen appeared. So after that

1: I did a chk dsk and it found a few errors. Still crashes afterwards
2: Noticed the game will play for about 30 seconds after the HDD turns off completely.
3: Doesn't seem to crash out of games

So is it a bad HDD, PSU, GPU, or software?

500w PSU
geforce 560TI
320GB WD HDD
i5-2500k
DH67~~~ intel mobo
8 (2x4gb) gigs ddr3-1333 g-skll ram

Alright, just as the HDD starts to hiccup a bit the sound will glitch out. After a few seconds of that the game will completely freeze.

I'm going to say it's the HDD. Grab another one (they're cheap, I'm surprised you're only working with a 320gb) and see if that helps.

Yeah, pretty sure it's the hard drive. You can try double-checking its connection to the mobo (see if you can try a different power connection/SATA cable, too, since the latter is fairly cheap)... that fixed a problem I was having where the hard drive being a pain caused a machine to blue-screen. Like yours, I could hear the hard drive a bit, and it would be the same error every time that happened, although it didn't happen every time a game was played, maybe because the drive itself wasn't the problem. If your hard drive is actually flaky, not just poorly-connected, it would make sense that a game would set it off, because games usually require the most loading from the drive of anything you could be doing. So yeah, see if you can try another drive, if swapping cables around doesn't fix it.

And you took out the old HDD and reinstalled the OS clean on the new one?

clean install of the OS. I also updated a bunch of intel utilities and the bios. Right before the computer crashed I got an error that said something about the 12v rail.

I replaced the PSU and it seems to be working when I run tech demos. I'm reinstalling a few games to see if they work.

Also magus, the boobs are there because thats where I put them. You may also not one to click my sig, as there are lots more there too.

I think he's saying you should possibly put a NSFW caveat on links when they go to places where there's nudity.

But hey, bonus that it's not the HDD. You've got a secondary HDD now.

    He would be correct.

And it seems like all is dying, and would leave the world to mourn
