Cost: Only $3.33 from from the developers, Gamersgate, (and maybe Steam, too, but I haven't checked)

So there's this indie 2D puzzle/platforming game called Tesla: The Weather Man in which you play Nikola Tesla, the famous scientist. The story is kind of balls to the wall insane. For whatever reason, Thomas Edison has gone crazy and has built a robot army to conquer the world. Or something. And Tesla is the only man who can stop him. Tesla sets off with a new glove he invented that lets him control the elements of weather, and lets him levitate objects. Oh, and Mark Twain narrates the story.

You have five main powers: Levitation, Lightning, Rain, Snow, and Sun, and you'll be solving physics based puzzles and fighting baddies with them. The game has a sort of RPG experience system, where you upgrade each power with points.

I believe this game is the first by the developer and it shows. The platforming is a bit clunky, and so is the player's animation. But the puzzles and overall gameplay is pretty enjoyable and solid. Looking forward to see what they do next, hopefully with more polish.

The one downside for me is the humor. It tries to be funny, but a lot of it falls flat for me. But once in a while it hits a note (like how Tesla collects pigeons in the game, ties them to himself, and uses them to extend his jump). Or maybe it's just me and more people will like that aspect.

Anyways, at only $3.33, I hope people will give this a try. There's a demo here.

Edison was Tesla's opponent in a lot of ways - DC vs. AC current as standard was the big one (and Edison did a lot of rather messed up stuff to try to discredit Tesla.) Twain was friends with Tesla, and Tesla had a bizarre love with pigeons.

I don't off-hand remember Tesla trying to control the weather, but Tesla was fucking crazy by the end of his life, so that's entirely possible.

I'm totally down with a platformer based on Tesla's hijinks. If only I had money.
