I'm the guy who went up to 5 Logos in the first place "because it would be cool".

You're makin' this hard on me, 21.

changes are cool. You could get a new hairstyle out of it.

not a pleasant one, considering your element, but, hey, it's a NEW HAIRSTYLE!

I'm not sure if I wanna cripple my ability to easily maintain normal social links quite yet.

Maybe if we find some more freaks to hang out with I can get my bond on and just Burn the Parents and Coworkers ones cause they don't understand me anymore.

    Hawk is buddies forever, though.

you have maybe 1/5 chances of getting a change that will cripple your ability to maintain normal social links... and 4/5 chances of getting something only mildly strange for people who aren't always hanging with you.

I either get a third eye or something and some leftover OC, or blow it all and get to explode up a building.

    Hmmmmmm.

You're in a basement... Think you and the others will survive?

Also, Rawk, since you didn't do the Ethos flare (like a kiss or something awkward), I'm ruling it unspent... So you're getting your 3 Ethos OC back and are at 4, I guess.

I kinda blame myself for not reminding you about it, so you can choose to refuse to comply. your choice.

On one hand, there was pretty little opportunity to talk to anyone in between the security guard scene and this fight.

On the other hand, I was secretly hoping you would be a badass enough GM to make this exact ruling. So yeah, totally willing to roll with this :^: (hell, you could turn the distortion into an automagical flare if you wanted, just like if Mel didn't have any s. links).

Finally, after that last session I'm adopting a policy I read from somewhere of not disputing any GM decisions during the session and just going with whatever 21st says, probably not saying too much ruleswise unless he asks for my opinion. Too much rules discussion really slowed down things last night and I'm largely to blame on that. While I still have strong opinions on how to best play magical anime characters, the game session is not the right time for such discussions.

    In PM if you must.

Any opinions I would have would be immensely colored by my dire love of DRYH which I consider the system to use if you want to screw over your players while still having fun.

It's the best ever and everyone should go read it right now because it's awesome.

The session was yesterday, it is way too early to get on a soapbox about why I believe having to resolve all overcharge if you hit 6+ is what is intended by the game setting and, more importantly, what is the most fun. Let's all cool down a bit.

Plus there's the whole thing with 21st not having designed the last encounter with my interpretation of the rules. Not exactly fair to ask that we all blow up on the spot this instant.
Using time, metal, decay, and whatever other kinds of magic you guys have to escape a building collapsing after having a house-sized hole blown into the basement would be a pretty awesome scenario to play through. It might be a bit too early in the campaign for that kind of thing, however.

  • 21stCentury21stCentury Call me Pixel, or Pix for short! [They/Them]Registered User regular
You can still blow up if you want, Marsh. It's just it's meant to happen only when you have massive, massive amounts of OC over several encounters.

  • MarshmallowMarshmallow Registered User regular
I don't mind terribly either way, so long as the treatment is consistent so I can plan my downfall appropriately. And really, not having my first encounter end by maybe killing half the other party members seems like a good idea.

I'll just have to be even more reckless with OC I guess.

  • 21stCentury21stCentury Call me Pixel, or Pix for short! [They/Them]Registered User regular
Rawk, I appreciate your rules questions, though. There are ways to interpret the rules, and the players' interpretation is important to me.

it's just, the way I interpret it, Bursts aren't supposed to happen often at all, but the way combat is going, bursts would happen all the time.

Plus, if my interpretation leads to more OC and less fear of OC, I'll be happy because it'll mean more permanent changes.

If we're going with each of our interpretations for how OC works, the way I'm reading it is that there are two rules for dealing with OC.

    1. If you ever go over 6 OC, by the end of the scene, you have to burn some off to get you back to 6 or less.
    2. You can't mix and match, meaning you can't get rid of 4 Ethos OC by kissing two people in the same scene, for instance.

The trick is, if you just spend enough to get you back down to 6 each time, sooner or later you're going to have a string of bad rolls that will land you with something really, really nasty. So the game tends to have lots of emotional outbursts, the occasional temporary change, a few permanent changes, and maybe, maybe a burst once or twice.

That's how I interpreted it myself.

BUT fallout is always the character's choice.

Also, you mean a string of GREAT rolls, not bad rolls, this magic is a gift, not a curse. :P

That is plain freakin' amazing! Wow! I wish I could draw something other than crappy pixel art, because I totally would draw each character.

I love that Dormath has a SD medallion! Even his persona wears hipster stuff! :D

Whoo, I figured how to make the dicebot come up with random changes and random persona stuff.

Changes are now 200% more easy to get.

  • Rawkking GoodguyRawkking Goodguy Registered User regular
It seems like we have pretty much the same desire for what overcharge should do, which is good and a big relief.

I don't think bursts should happen more than a few times a campaign, but permanent changes are only going to get rarer and bursts almost nonexistent with these rules as it's pretty trivial to avoid reaching 10 overcharge in one attribute with how things have been going (which is why overcharge is going to be used more in addition to even less fear of bursts.) I mean sure, I could recklessly push the envelope like I'm sure Marsh will be doing throughout the entire game, but it doesn't fit how terrified Melanie will be of becoming an outcast of "normal" society. Not criticizing Marsh, it make perfect sense for Josc to push the envelope due to his overeager fascination with magic.

But let's see how this works out, if it doesn't work as envisioned we can always tweak it slightly.

Just a heads up, this Friday I'll be leaving on a cruise for a week and thus not likely to be able to attend the two sessions after the next one (I know, poor me). Cruise liners have internet but charge exorbitant amounts for it, so not really worth it.

Well, I guess you have until Wednesday to come up with a reason why Melanie'll be away for a day or two, then.

Thanks for the heads up, where you going? Caribbeans?

Think its the Bahamas? Some kinda tropical Island.

Have a pretty good idea of what Melanie would be doing, going to assume that we finish the plot arc on Wednesday. If we don't it'll be a lot harder to pull some kinda justification for Melanie ditching the party mid-battle.

Ah, also, on my part, this Sunday my girlfriend is taking a four and a half hour trip to see me. I think that we might have a disagreement if I spent a good chunk of the day playing a game online. So, I'm not making it this weekend, but I'll be here Wednesday.
