So far, Escapist, not Yahtzee, have come forward saying that they want to bring him during PAX, with a special, large scale fan meetup for all of the Escapist. And now, the RocketHub site appears to have been yanked, so perhaps they decided it was a bad idea after all. But if fans wanted to chipin/pay for a party or merch, great. And if they didn't, fine. And if there's a debate over that being within the spirit of PAX, so be it.
But this thread has turned into a game of telephone, with some poor reading comprehension skills. Be careful of spreading misinformation with only a small amount of information.
For the record they got lynched in lots of different ways. For those who are not aware they have called it off. Feel free to read the letter about it saying how they didn't expect nor did they intend for the lynch mob to attack them. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/content/seattleorbust is the article about it. Its clear they did have the best of intentions.
You know, maybe it was just me, but when I first saw their post about getting Yahtzee to PAX, I didn't see a mention of charity. It seemed like the escapist just wanted the money
PAX is bigger than you think, and a lot of parties have already been planned. If I were you, and I wanted to try again at this fundraiser for PAX 2012, I would get started NOW. Plan it out, rent a venue NOW, and start selling those posters as soon as PAX tickets go on sale to meet the rental price.
You may be wondering why so many people were skeptical of the fundraiser, and I hope I can help here. If I remember correctly, party invites cost $100 for the chance to meet Yahtzee, and that's if you (The Escapist) can find an open venue this late in the game. So... I could pay $100 at a $50 convention to go to a party where I might meet someone who's kinda famous... or I can go to a dozen other parties for free, or close to free, and save my money for booze or Expo merch.
Not only that, but when parties are thrown at PAX they are thrown FOR the attendees and very rarely BY them, save the few community-run events. If I'm going to drop a C-note to get into a PAX party, I expect free top-shelf liquor, a dozen strippers and better than a "chance" to meet Yahtzee. (Expectations are based on the CCP party, which is free, open bar and full of dancers). Perhaps if you had described some of the party perks, what you hoped to offer with your fans' money, then it might have been more successful. But let me tell you, to this date I've never paid more than a $15 cover to get into a party during PAX. Asking for more than the cost of a PAX 3-day pass is kinda ridiculous.
I realize you're not a company loaded with cash. But really think about this: You offer incentives to get your fans to fund their own party, but the minimum to get in is pretty steep. So everyone who's 'donated' less than the required invite amount are essentially funding a party that they can't go to, and as a thank-you they get some over-priced swag. Big Whoop. Of course no one's biting. Not only are you emphasizing the fact that you're in it for the money (whether you are or not), but you're doing exactly what PAX is against - you are creating celebrity exclusivity to those who can afford it. Sure, that's common practice at other conventions. Sure, Leonard Nimoy can charge $60 for an autograph at ComiCon. But you know what? PAX is different. It's special. It's affordable. It's FOR EVERYONE.
If you really want to throw an awesome PAX party, don't make us pay for it. Work extra hard. Produce more merch to sell. Allocate a bigger chunk of profits to be your PAX budget, and throw the party FOR your fans. If you still need to make up the cost, sell merch there. Bring those limited, exclusive posters to PAX and sell them at the show. Up the prices a little to compensate for tax & profits. If fans complain that your prices in person are higher than online, remind them that they aren't paying S&H by buying at the show. Bring Yahtzee to see his fans and sign stuff for free. Pre-Sell party tickets online. But do not tell your fans to fund a party that they may or may not be able to go to.

The folks behind EVE Online throw a party at this Succubus Club in Pioneer Square. When I went in '08, there was an open bar (!!!) and an alternative burlesque showing featuring trapeze work, fire dancing, and an angle grinder/metal corset. You'll have to ask the people at the EVE booth about how to get in, since I know in '08 you can bug them for a pass, but in '09 only ladies could get passes (guessing they didn't want another sausagefest).

Passes? Pfft. I've made a career out of sneaking into parties. Thanks for the heads up!
I came in this thread looking for details on said CCP Party, and now I leave the thread wondering how anyone can be excited about the dice game Yahtzee.

You're right. I'll stop being proactive.
