In my best friend's family there are only boys. He has only brothers, only uncles on his father's side and only nephews. When my own family fell apart, his took me in, becoming a kind of surrogate family when my mom left, so I feel like another brother in their family. His wife was born with a disorder that has made it difficult for them to conceive. So, when she finally became pregnant, there was much talk about whether it would be a boy or girl. His mom, who always wanted a girl, is desperate for a granddaughter, but up until today, only grandsons. While trying to choose a name for their new kid, they wanted to think of both a boy's and a girl's name. My friend has always loved the name Julia, but they couldn't decide on a name for a boy. Today, Feb 19, at 6:04 pm Julia Anne was born. It's a goddamn girl.
