I finally found my Zune after missing it for nearly a year and immediately tried to reinstall the Zune software on my computer. This has been spectacularly more difficult than I remember it being. Using Windows 7 I have tried installing it without any firewalls, as an administrator, using the complete Zune software package. I'm kinda at a loss here as to what to do and Microsoft's solutions have been even more useless than I would have expected.
when you say "as an administrator" do you mean you were logged in as an administrator, or you right clicked and ran as administrator... because windows 7 has an interesting idea as to what administrator means.
That is to say, I believe even if your account is an administrator, you still have to right click and install as administrator, also try disabling UAC by punching it in the face, with a gun of some kind

Surprisingly, people pay me to do computer things.
This happens sometimes when the Zune software package doesn't contain an update for some related software that you have. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944938
In short, Microsoft makes a huge download that contains every bit of software that the Zune software is dependent on, found here. Installing this should fix the problem. I remember having this issue a while back as well.

This is what I've been using and so far it's been no luck.
Right clicking and running as administrator didn't do the trick either.
