Its breaking on Fox and MSNBC, pretty much nothing is known yet from what i've seen. Dude on reddit made a post about it about 20 mins ago, no news on actual shootings yet

The dude on reddit claims to have been moved to a secure room by staff? Hopefully they're slightly better prepared for this. Good luck to all of them :[
Well if it's already known he's there then hopefully he can't do much damage... right? At least that's what I can hope. Best case scenario is it isn't even someone with a gun at all and just a misunderstanding.
I'm completely prepared for this to turn into just some dude open-carrying on campus like an idiot and not actively threatening anyone. This is just wishful thinking because that sort of situation can end without bloodshed.
A short time after issuing its original alert, Virginia Tech said that at 9:09 a.m., three juveniles attending a camp at the university reported seeing a white male outside of New Residence Hall East holding what may have been a handgun. The three said the weapon was covered by a cloth or covering of some sort.
The male was described as 6 feet tall with light brown hair and no facial hair or glasses and wearing a blue and white-striped shirt, gray shorts and brown sandals.
He reportedly was walking fast in the direction of the volleyball courts.
Officers responded immediately to the area but found no one matching the description. Police have encountered no other witnesses reporting this individual or anything suspicious.
Law enforcement officers from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Christiansburg and Montgomery County were patrolling the campus, continuing to look for the subject
Yeah, this sounds like a false alarm. Obviously they should still take it seriously.

This made me check where my brother lives in relation to VT, and thankfully its on the other side of the state, but still, hope they catch them soon and hope everyone is safe.
There's gunmen on the UH campus like every day. They wander over from Texas Southern.
So, is this a dig at a traditionally black university or?

I'm glad this is turning out to be nothing.
I was in indianapolis over the weekend with some friends and we were out at a mcdonalds around midnight and some guy had a pistol in a holster. So I texted my friend who was back at the apartment "oh shit somebody here has a gun"... Realized what that sounded like and texted him again a minute later to say it was okay.
I was still uncomfortable though and had my friends leave the restaurant.

Hope it turns out okay and they get him before he kills anybody.

I can't get the link to load, but that may be due to my work's connection.
Edit: Oh now you've changed the thread title Anjin. Now I look like a jerk.
God dammit. Time to get on the phone to the friends I have attending and teaching there.
Hopefully their new security systems will help out.
hope response is quick and effective
well they said gunman. for all we know maybe nothing has happened yet
fortunately classes aren't yet in session for fall but still
this sucks
Hopefully it's just a guy walking around minding his own business. Stupid to be doing it on the campus, but still.
On the other...VTech has obviously had issues before.
I'm hoping for this as well...

Wasn't there another shooting a V-Tech a short while back?
