Well, you know, it's Crisis. We kind of know what to expect. Anything less than the apocalypse and it'll look like a letdown compared to the two preceding stories.

I figured that last teaser image would help with that.
Red swirly sky rarely means anything good, in any form of media.
Are the Crisis trades necessary and/or worthwhile reads? I'm enjoying Countdown so far but my DC background is fairly limited and I'm wondering if picking up those trades would help any as I'm at a bit of a loss when it comes to certain characters. Also thinking of picking up the 52 trades as they come out (I'll be ordering Vol 1. shortly). If I don't get anything else out it Countdown at least introduced me to the Rogues which in turn led me to check out the Flash books which I'm loving.

Crisis on Infinite Earths is really slow until a particular point (you might know what it is, but I won't spoil it), and then it gets pretty good
Infinite Crisis is good if you haven't read anything good
IGN Comics: Interesting. Are there any other instances where you got to play a bit and make a decision like giving that Superman a mullet?
Sciver: Well, okay - there's one I can think of. People have been saying, "Why is there a grown-up Trickster in the new Trickster's costume?" Hey listen, they sent me a drawing of the Howard Porter/Scott Kolins-era Trickster, and said draw this. And I said I didn't want to draw him with a big fat baby face. If he's a teenager - which I assume he is - then that's my teenage Trickster. I didn't mean to confuse people. If Geoff [Johns] had given me the character and the character design and said, "Here, draw this your way" way back when he was doing Flash, he would have looked like that.
apparently he's drawing all day every day and can't ever read comics
what?
His hand must be possessed.
Seriously, comics are easily one of the least demanding hobbies available to a person. They don't take much time to read at all and you can have them delivered straight to your door, if need be.

I highly recommend both Infinite Crisis and 52. 52 may start off a bit slow but give it a chance to pick up

If you do end up getting Infinite Crisis, get the hardcover, as opposed to single issues. The artwork has been cleaned up a bit, especially near the end of the series.
The second volume of 52 comes out at the end of the month as well.
Anyone check out Countdown this week? I've decided to stop getting it, but I keep hoping that it will have some amazing issue that convinces me to pick it up again.
The only plot point that really advances is the rogues. And by advance I mean they are tied up and talk for 10 pages about nothing. Mary helps Riddler stop Clayface. Holly talks to Harley for a few pages about nothing trying to explain why she isnt in jail. Batman acts tough in front of Karate Kid for a few wasted pages. Monitor/Troy/Todd waste a few pages explaining their quest for Palmer, which will not even take place in Countdown (see the miniseries you have to shell out more money for) and I think that covers it.
I'm starting to think I might drop this series and wait on trades (if anything cool ends up happening). It's really not all that much different from 52 in terms of how much space they devote to each story per issue, but 52 had more interesting stories. The Animal Man, Ralph Dibny, and the Question story lines were awesome. There's nothing approaching that degree of coolness in Countdown yet.
Also, what was up with Batman? That is not how I expect Batman to behave. That was fucked.

Explain why you felt it was fucked.
I don't see him as having that bad of an ego problem. Yeah, he doesn't like getting beat, but he usually treats fellow heroes with respect. Especially if they can manage to beat him. Also, the "sidekick" comment seems out of character, because I don't expect Bats to be making quips, even as a quiet aside to himself.
Also, I'm not sure where in time the little exchange occurs. If it happens after the end of the Lightning Saga, I could understand that he doesn't trust Karate Kid. But if it happens then, why is Karate Kid stopping to make one last goodbye (from the ending in JLofA, it seemed they all disappeared as soon as they finished their task), and why doesn't Bats challenge him more on what the hell the Legion was doing rather than wasting breath on his ego? Again, out of character for Batman, who is ever the detective.

But the thing is, Karate Kid is a hero from the future, who, along with others from the future, casued a bit of ruckus. Which in turn has Superman going a little nutty wondering what the hell they were really after. I don't know if you were maybe expecting something like..
"Wow, Val! Listen, let's head back to the cave and I'll have Alfred bring down some tea and crumpets! NO, of course I'm not mad about you causing severe internal bleeding with a single hit. Nah, blood from the urethra only hurts a few times!"
On another note, Batman has his quip moments. They are few and far between, but he has them.

Also, Val, aka, Karate Kid, has a tremendous ego. He's the best hand to hand fighter on earth right now, and he knows it. And he'll let you know it too.
I sort of wish I could just get the Rogues and Mary Marvel stories, all the other stuff doesn't really interest me.
Also, anyone else think it strange that the cover is all 'Enter Clayface!' and then
he lasts for five panels
?
Strange? No. Clayface was in this issue.
I guess it's that whole cover art = / = what happens in the story thing, I just would have liked more. I guess he really didn't stand a chance, though.

You mean like half the comic book covers in exsistance?
...makes me wonder if the Kyle Rayner with the Challengers is really our Kyle. Someone's probably mentioned it in this thread already but remember when it was mentioned that Kyle would have been the GL of Earth-8 if the Multiverse had never been wiped during the first Crisis?

Goddamnit.
We can't fucking win.
Everyone just read Dark Horse?
Or stop complaining and get back on topic.

Yes, dubbed 'Final Crisis' with Kurt Busiek rumored to write it.

The Final Crisis.
Which makes this ...
The Final Countdown!
sorry
Well, it's not like they've announced anything else about it.
All that's fairly set in stone is the title, and the fact that it's taking place after Countdown.

because he's already died and came back, and beat the yellow version of the "devil".

I am a freaking nerd.
Seeing that cover...
