That said, I am rather disappointed in Countdown, same as just about everyone else. The book has improved a lot in the past few weeks, but my main concern now is really just all of the tie-in miniseries. It just seems like DC keeps pulling more and more out onto the table, so much so that I'm really beginning to wonder why I'm reading Countdown at all. Right now it seems like most of the actual stories will take place in the miniseries, and just get repackaged in Countdown. Ray Palmer? Miniseries. 'Death of the New Gods?' Miniseries. Rogues? Miniseries. Etc.[/SIZE]
Uh, since when? Are Trickster and Piper even in Salvation Run? I was under the impression that they weren't.
Also, I'm thankful that Death of the New Gods is a mini-series. Starlin's writing it.
Btw, could Jimmy end up being a New God? I mean, not only has he interacted with them in the past but it'd also explain the "Jimmy Must Die" tagline (what with someone flying around the universe killing New Gods).

This is speculation, so I don't think it needs a spoiler tag: it's been implied to varying degrees that Jimmy's manifestation of powers is directly tied to the death of a New God right near him. He's showing all the pre-Crisis powers he had (although, of course, this Jimmy never had them...) but we have no real explanation for this.
As far as I know, unlike the Inhumans in Marvel, we have no idea whether New Gods are born with a single power set, whether they acquire them shortly after birth, etc. so this might represent the normal New God system of powers developing in an immature New God.

I don't really think his abilities are tied into Lightray's death since he used his stretchy and super speed abilities before then.
Bad Karma: I'm looking at the cover right now and I still don't see Piper or Trickster on the cover. Sure there's the other rogues but they're not main characters in Countdown are they?

I was actually responding to the text you bolded. I read it as NAND NOR misunderstanding the story for Salvation Run, as being a "Rogues only" story.

Are you sure? I'm not following D.C. as tightly (Countdown is completely sucking, except for basically the Mary storyline, at least as far as I'm concerned) so I could have missed it but I thought it started with Orion's death. Can you point me in the right direction for the pre-Orion manifestation?
The alternate explanation, I'd guess, is that this is a Superboy Punch effect.

Orion is still alive and kicking, Lightray was the one that died. As for when Jimmy first manifested powers, it was in Countdown #49 when Killer Croc attacked him and he went all stretchy. Plus in Countdown #48 (the issue where Lightray died), Jimmy used his super speed before Lightray had actually died.

was it a significant enough appearance to warrant me picking it up? i'm interested in grabbing Kyle's storyline from Countdown and the related titles, but that's about it

So, does Jimmy have the anti-life equation in his head or am I reading too much into this issue?
And speaking of Jimmy, I hated the Infinity Inc advertisement this scene was all about. I dont think its a coincidence that he shows up at Steel's place and they plug Inf Inc in the same week that book launches. The fact he was at the Watchtower last issue and could have had this examination there is another reason to suspect the only reason for the scene change was to plug. Star Labs would have been a better choice than Steel any day. As far as I know, Steel was smart, but didnt deal with biology that much. And the very nature of the machine Steel just happens to have in his lab is so contrived. I honestly cant see him having that machine, that just happens to fit the plot, in his warehouse lab. Its stupid things like this that piss me off with Countdown. Barbara had a similar full body biology make up machine in her home and just happened to have an advanced biology and technology degree and the training to use such a machine. It made no sense and was only there for the plot and this issue is very similar with its use.
The Flash scene was very well done though. Only problem is the need to beat us over the head and try to convince us these two rogues were not at all involved with the Flash's death when they were both clearly there and seen kicking and beating the Flash.
I figured it out as soon as Amazons Attack did the whole revelation
so
I didn't pick up the latest two countdown issues until a little while ago. i had the pieces but until I saw the whole warrior arena i didn't put them together.

Thanks.
There were also just millimeters of progress this week, except for the Mary Marvel story, which might be considered a few inches of progress.
I thought the JLofA bit was funny.

The nerve.
Besides, Infinity Inc #1 was pretty good. Weird, but good.

It's times like this I wish they would just drop the weekly thing and give me one big 50 page monthly.
I would love that.

Oh, I know
It does say "a Batman beyond anything we've ever seen"
I saw "Batman Beyond" and voted
but that doesn't look like the BB Green Lantern
although I wouldn't expect the comic-universe to be the exact same thing
look
you know me and shazam are like this
but the chance that it's related to Batman Beyond
i gotta take it
