4th Annual Northern California Pre-PAX Meetup - ALL DONE! SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!

edited August 2011 in PAX Archive
PAX is soon upon us. If you're in northern California and would like to hang out with other PAXers to talk games, compare notes on what to see and do at PAX and thereabouts, get a jump on the button trade, etc., come join us for stories and face stuffing. Unless there are objections, I propose using the same time and place as last year.

Time: 1PM, Saturday, August 20th

Place: Round Table Pizza
2151 Cowell Blvd, Davis, CA
(530) 753-1883

And for nostalgia's sake, here are Hexcore's photos from last year's event (including pics of millislim's excellent Gabe costume).

I can't imagine missing our annual meetup. I should be there with most of the Chico crew.

I'm so glad. I'm actually thinking we should hold every fifth one in Chico just out of respect for how much driving you, Von Wolf, and any other Chico folks have to do.

I was supposed to go to The Boyfriend's step-brother's wedding; but he decided not to and failed to tell me until just five minutes ago. ~_~; ANYWHO! So not missing this! And once again, it'll just be sweet and insane lil' me.

Man... I have to work that night. And I live in Chico. Sadface.

  • BlainBlain Registered User regular
@CaptainTapole I always enjoy sweet and insane lil' you.

@LordFizzlebeef Maybe next year, or maybe you and some of the Chico folks could organize an additional meet?

  • Cerrato0426Cerrato0426 Registered User regular
I ran into Vonxwolfenstein a few weeks ago and unfortunately she told me she won't be going to PAX this year. My group is mostly still intact though.

@LordFizzlebeef I've never met anyone else from Chico on the forums. Is this your first PAX? Maybe we can have a mini meetup. It's always cool to meet people before and then run into each other at the con.

I would if I had my own car. Le sigh.

    Hotel bound on PAX Saturday,
I exclaimed "Khoo is my Sensei!"
So if memes make great shirts,
    And Pod Six is Jerks,
Then Moe, Khoo and I had our day.

@Cerrato0426 This will be my second PAX. I'm going through a somewhat anti-social phase at the moment but would not be opposed to a mini-meetup for chico folks. Tues/Wed are safe days. Late afternoon or very early morning.

Is it okay to invite myself and a friend? We're both Davis natives and first time PAXers after many years of saying that we would go to PAX that year.

  • BlainBlain Registered User regular
@neuroslice: Just let people know where you're coming from. You may be able to carpool.

@yanthrax: It's totally okay. Friends, significant others, etc. are welcome.

Well, in that case, if anyone's coming from Monterey (or South of Salinas on the 101), that's where I be. Though I guess that puts me on the extreme lower end of the bay area.

I could also get to Santa Cruz, and carpool from there, if needed.

I was not aware of this event last year or I would have come down too! Its a bit of a drive from where I'm at but I will try to make it I think!

If I could toss my two cents in I would be behind moving it to Chico, about an hour closer for those of us in the Rural North East of Cali.

Scheduled to work on the 20th >.< Should be able to get out of it pretty easily though.

Well then you should be happy to know that I called to make sure the restaurant exists and isn't reserved for next Saturday. Your shift trading or other required weaseling will not be in vain. :)

This is for the Round Table in the South Davis marketplace with Safeway, Rite-Aid and Mermaids' and whatnot, right?

  • BlainBlain Registered User regular
According to the Round Table site, there's only one in Davis.

  • Cerrato0426Cerrato0426 Registered User regular
In all honesty, the non-existent Round Table of a couple years past has provided me with one of my best PAX memories.

'Cause it was funny to make fun of Blain from that point on? Yes, yes it was.

...Oh. And hanging out with you kids. :P

Officially one work shift poorer so I'll be free Saturday!

  • yanthraxyanthrax boners bonersRegistered User regular
I'm probably going to be really hung over, but I will still make an effort to see everyone on Saturday! Historically have you guys done anything afterwards, or is it just meet up, cram pizza in face, disperse?

Talk. Cram. Talk. Talk. Talk. More cram. Oh! Talk.

If you didn't notice, we talk a lot before during and after.

@yanthrax CaptainTapole has the right of it. Also, people with hangovers make it a more authentic PAX experience. :)

    Is the meetup still on?

So maybe this is a bit weird since I don't know any of you but I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me a ride. My roommate who was going to go with me is going out of town and it looks like the bus is going to be a pain in the ass and kind of expensive. If your willing just PM me. If not I will try to find my way there anyway.

  • BlainBlain Registered User regular
You are PMed. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. The best part of PAX is spending time with gamers, and it's always great to start that part early. Also, since there was a miscommunication with PureButtons, I'll have a special, very limited edition of my 2011 design for anyone who wants one. :)

I, too, shall be bringing a handful of my regular trading buttons. My bonus buttons for this year requires you to play a round of the Pokemanz with me...be it of the Pokémon League challenge kind or casual.

Leaving Chico now. See you guys soon!

  • Cerrato0426Cerrato0426 Registered User regular
I'm running a little late so I just screamed "chaos control" (Sonic A2) in my car while thinking of the Round Table parking lot. Didn't work :(

  • BlainBlain Registered User regular
Thanks for coming out everyone. It was a smaller group this year, but it was still nice. The LoL folks talked shop. We got to see some cool pictures of cosplay and fallout glitches, plus an art portfolio. Game retail war stories were compared. And of course we talked about games and PAX (and the weird cartoons they were running on Boomerang).

  • Cerrato0426Cerrato0426 Registered User regular
I had a great time and I'm glad I met a few new faces. It was a little smaller this year, but I think that really let us keep a group discussion going a little better. I'd like to thank Blain for organizing (and grabbing my bill!). Hope to see all of you at PAX.
