Sort of dumb to ask, given that I'm downloading the client anyway, but how fun is it vs LoL?
EDIT: Also, I rode out of Season One just barely above 1000 ELO (I believe my final score was 1003).
I feel accomplished.
I hear tales of the community being born of hellspawn dog-whores who will attack you for the smallest slight, both real and imagined.
And on the subject of ELO. I'm silver 1448 or something. Friend of mine is unranked. He's played 80+ games. I've played 12. Though I do have a better W\L 10\2 vs something less than 50%. Kinda weird and funny. Weird in the way that in 80+ games you'd think it would tell you where you stand.
Okay. So, in LoL, there are a few items neatly arranged into logical categories. In HoN, there are approximately 329800193210913 items and good fucking luck trying to figure out what they do (you can sort them, but it doesn't help a lot).
My God, I can't even figure-out how to Blue Pill. ...Can you Blue Pill?
And what the Hell do mages buy for increased spell damage? I see lots of attack damage items, but nothing for casters.
The interface is much nicer, the in-game graphics are nice but don't quite feel as appealing to me... but oh God the pacing. Stuff happens soooooo fast. I feel like I'm in an isometric Call of Duty or something.

The HoN shop is absolutely terrible for anybody who doesn't already know what they're doing.
Part of understanding the items is understanding a few core elements of the game:
1.) All characters are categorized by one of three primary stats: Strength (STR), Agility(AGI), Intelligence(INT). These stats do not exist in LOL. Points in STR increase HP and HP regen. Points in AGI give atk speed and armor. Points in INT give mana and mana regen. Also, each point going towards the stat that is the "primary stat" for that hero (it'll be highlighted) increases their attack damage by 1.
2.) You can also buy items that give bonuses to attack damage, armor, HP, etc. without giving a bonus to one of those primary stats.
3.) Very, very few skills have damage or whatever else scale with stats. This is one of the big differences in how the numbers work in HoN/DOTA and LOL. In LOL, everybody has skills that scale off of something, whether it's HP/AP/AD/whatever. In LOL, it's the rare skill like Olaf's true damage skill that doesn't scale off of anything and stays at a flat number for the whole game. In HoN, very few skills scale off of any stat. Sure some of them implicitly do, like crit skills or any other skills that add an effect to your basic attack, but little else does. So many nukers are designed for early game dominance, and many skills like stuns/slows late in the game are really only valuable for the disable, and not the damage.
4.) "Blue Pill" does not exist as a universal, always-available ability in the game. You can buy... teleportation stones? Recall stones? I forget what they were called. They allow you to teleport from where you are to any friendly structure after a channel of a few seconds. The channel is not interrupted by damage, but is interrupted by stuns and disables. So one way to look at it is that nobody has the "B" button, but everybody can have the Teleportation summoner skill, but it costs money each time and takes an inventory slot.

...So if you're a nuker, and you can't buy stuff to make your spells scale upward, what the fuck do you do when everyone has (presumably) a lot more hit points and magic resist later on?
Man I have been given a new and incredibly deep appreciation for LoL. I want EUW up plz.

played my first ranked game on my way to 1500. played taric when I didn't want to. great early game. absolutely awful mid game. then nasus and kogmaw became gods, aced them and we won, but was insanely fustrating. I think I'm just gonna play sona regardless of team comp.

items in Dota/HoN aren't as static as LoL. in LoL, it's pretty much "you do more damage" or "you take less damage" or "you can casts spells more" as far as items are concerened. In Dota, items are somewhat more dynamic. I dunno about HoN, but int heroes usually got stuff like orchid/sheep stick/euls/urns, supporty type items.

Ender, if you want to play HoN the tutorial is probably pretty useful (I think? I used it in open beta and it was OK, I don't think it'd be any worse now, but it's possible).
Long story short, though: League of legends has much cheaper survivability and much higher base survivability (or much more expensive damage and lower base damage, if you want to look at it that way), and skills basically all scale and don't do much at all with just their base damage. In HoN, skills basically all don't scale and everybody is very squishy, with damage items being cheap and defensive items being fairly pricey, along with most defensive items giving some sort of offensive boost. Also armor is much more valuable per point than it is in LoL (I *think* each point of armor is roughly equivalent to six points of LoL armor, I dunno).
Irrelevant but neat sidenote: AFAIK, there are no non item active heals that don't double as nukes in some fashion, which is pretty neat.

If you're a nuker, guess what? A solid hit of whatever one or two skills you've levelled up early on will basically drop an enemy down to a third of their HP, and your level 1/2 ult is frequently either going to either kill the enemy on its own, or going to kill the enemy if you hit another skill at the same time. Then you're there for the CC and some burst on the enemy carry. There's also basically no magic resist (besides the item that gives temporary magic immunity).
Again, LoL is basically ridiculously safer than HoN and the items/heroes are generally much less extreme, with very few examples of champs who are truly shit early and great late, and very few items being absolutely critical and game-changing for the champion. In HoN, there are heroes who can't do anything early on and can nearly solo enemy teams if they get full amounts of farm and a good jump in, and there are heroes who do a ton early and never scale, and most items are bought for the varied and powerful effects, not the stats. Both are fun (when played with decent people), just in their own way.
Ok, someone please tell me an easy-to-use overpowered champ that I can buy and then use to farm my way up to 30, since all the guides require you to be at 30 with specific stacks runes to be effective and I'm tired of being at a disadvantage because I have no runes and no idea what I'm doing kthnx.
Also, I've reported 1 or 2 teammates for verbal abuse every game I've played tonight. WTF is wrong with these people? XBox Live is practically classy by comparison.
All auto-attacks are boosted from Attack Damage. Sometimes, item's like Wit's End do additional damage alongside an auto-attack, these are typically specified in the item description as to what type they are (And I think they're all magical damage anyway). You can get a Lich Bane which says it adds your AP to an attack when you use an ability, but that specifically is adding an amount of AD equal to your AP to it.
Also, building Nasus tanky is a great idea, because of his Q. The only damage item you really need on him is a Trinity Force, which synergizes great with his Q as well.
I'll have to give that a try. I've been building chalice purely because I run out of mana early getting in and Q'ing, and also use E to farm if there's low minions, and harass.

My goto is Janna. She won't carry for you, but if you have a couple of semi-competent team mates she's a great multiplier. And she can be lots of fun for sheer "haha no you can't take this tower" hijinks. I think I might have played her with you lastnight?

At low levels I know malhazar can be a beast. He's expensive. So they might have not seem him, farms really well, and can to a lot of DMG. QWRWQ does a lot of DMG and will kill alot of heroes 1v1. I've used him a lot and killed with him in most games.
he's definitely not very strong, but he has some good numbers
i did do well in the one game i got to play with him today, though i did sit around a long time and ran a couple of bot games trying to figure out a nice build for items/runes/masteries
i would really like to learn him in depth because he seems cool but he just seems to lack much depth since they took out the whole "ult gets more powerful the more things they get hit by" mechanic
and 1 second silence is way too short

I do not regret any money I've spent in my month playing the game, just wish I would have found it sooner. When exactly was the beta/release?
I've played these games since the AoS maps. Hung out in the DoTA channel in WC3 And TfT both doing 5v5's and pub stomps, and used to talk with the original DoTA creator Eul online all the time. So I consider myself kinda versed.
I have not played HoN, I have not played DoTA2, but wow has LoL got so many things right IMO. I love the punishment system having being affected by drops in a hotel. Got a 24 hour ban, sucked, but at Least the real dicks get it or worse. The UI now looks really nice. The ability to reconnect is awesome, and while I'm not lvl 30, I have seen so many different types of games. Lopsided wins and losses, come from behind wins and losses, a variety of heroes and playstyles. I have yet to play or see a character I'd say is OP or UP.
I just hit lvl 12 though.
Ive never bought into a freemium model, but IMO LoL has it down.
The only other moba I'd say I liked close to this is the TfT custom tides of blood. So good.
In short, insert futurama pic with fry saying take my money!
Are you kidding? Maybe I haven't played enough with him, but Talon's super good at being physical burst. His ability to engage/disengage from a fight are almost as good as Akali. I find his kit really interesting and fun to use as well. Maybe I like him because I like Akali so much and he's kind of the physical version of her. And his early game is slightly better.

...Is it just me, or has the camera angle been adjusted as well?
edit: killed the process and restarted. Now it's 6 minutes. Woo.
All the builds i've seen are just sustained DPS with Madreds
replace sustained with SHIT and that should tell you how a vayne build with madreds in it is
just go bloodthirster/iedge phantom dancer, then whatever you want 3rd depending (banshee, armour, second pd, etc)
