yea, it would be weird for this thread to suddenly turn into a trade thread after so much generosity in the past
There's always been a fair amount of commerce. Of course it's largely been to help our poor, oppressed Aussie brethren get games at decent prices. That said, hopefully the trade stuff won't metastasize.
Kinda on topic, given that the first game was a daily sale a couple of days ago. Sniper Elite V2 announced!
Just got the email. PC exclusive coming to Steam. I absolutely love the first game. I know some people found it boring but it added to the tension, having to sneak everywhere and using only a single shot for your target. And headshots were so satisfying.
Also, did I mention, PC EXCLUSIVE?! and they said it was a dying format.
Is there an easy way to tell if I have anything valuable in my inventory? I haven't even looked at it in months.
Not to be a dick, but read back X number of pages to the other X billion people asking that same exact question and see the same exact answer given every time?
To actually look at your backpack; http://www.tf2items.com/

It's coming to consoles from what I read, albeit ported by a different company, making it the reverse of the norm nowadays.

It might be worth adding a "these TF2 items are worth more than a nickel, if you don't have them, your dreams of trading TF2 hats for anything worthwhile have been crushed" bit to the OP, if someone other than me with any knowledge of the shady and mysterious hat marketplace can conjure up such a thing.

Its 4.30am, I'm allowed some mistakes
I've yet to actually try the first on PC, only played it on PS2.

The only thing I've seen is Maddoc posting a list of like, five things. What I'm asking is if there are any other items that are worth the bother of trading, or if it's just 'you don't have any of these 5 things so just ignore it'.

The later, more or less

Weird... The copy of Who's That Flying?! that the classy Rubix42 gifted me never showed a popup in Steam, and then when I went to redeem it (from the Gifts and Guest Passes window) it said that the gift was no longer valid. It added to my library and started to download, though, so I don't know what that was all about. Probably a few kinks to work out of this gift trading beta or something.

I was getting almost that exact issue when I went in on an EYE 4-pack, and had mts be my middleman for the QuakeCon bundle
I got the popup, but it still told me that the gift was invalid (and nearly gave me a shitting heart attack in the case of the QuakeCon bundle), but then added everything to my library just fine
EDIT: Also, Yod, while they're not super valuable and won't get you, say, 4 Skyrims, the Witcher 2 stuff could probably net a little bit at least.

Speaking of, how is it? I've been craving shmups ever since falling in love with Jamestown, and I see it's on sale for cheap, but I don't really know much about it.

I've only played through the first level (with my keyboard), but it is a pretty cool inversion of the shooter formula. The gimmick is that you are basically invincible, but you are Earth's protector, and you can only allow a limited number of enemies through before you lose. It is not at all bullet hell like Jamestown, but I think I could recommend it if you are in the mood for a shooter. The art style is pretty neat, and every animation is hand-drawn and really fluid.

I've played through the first nine levels, and the bosses later on have some bullet hell moments. Dodging and patterns become a big part of the gameplay. Bosses are encountered at the end of each city stage, there are three levels to each stage and I think there are four stages. There also seems to be a nice bit of unlockable content. It's not super deep or anything, but there are some nice nuances to the game and the difficulty scales nicely. If you enjoy hand drawn, cartoony art styles, kind of like Alien Hominid, then you'll enjoy the look of this game. Each level has a bronze, silver and gold medal achieved by limiting the amount of aliens you let past. Perfect scores get a gold medal with a ribbon. Then there's the scoring, with chain multipliers, so if chasing scores is your thing it has that going on too. The humor isn't bad either.
I'm really happy with the two bucks I spent on it. I would have blown that on the game in the arcades easy.
fake edit: The game also supports controllers. It recognized my Saitek Joystick too, so I would be willing to bet it'll recognize most controllers and not just 360 pads.
Wait, reading the RPS article about the new CS game, it's for consoles too? How would that even work?

Fuuuuuuuck
Decided to get my SpaceChem pin and Fishcake
Managed Moustachium 602 without much difficulty, and actually felt pretty proud of myself for totally crushing the average number of cycles for Moustachium 604
Just looking at Moustachium 608 makes me want to cry
I haven't played or even had installed TF2 since the hat update. Is that why my inventory looks empty?
Yeah you have to play it and they'll show up.
I've never played TF2 (on PC, at least), never bought it before it went F2P even, and I've got two items showing up. I wonder if there'd be more if I were to play it. Which I'm not planning on...
I am actually a bit surprised they're bringing it to consoles simply because Valve and consoles seem to cause pretty bad results. The 360 version of TF2 is a joke. The PSN outage at Portal 2's release. Just surprised a company that is so update friendly wants to deal with Microsoft's crap again.

Presumably the PS3 version will have Steamworks like Portal 2, at which point Valve could be all "Sony lets us bypass certification, why don't you?" at Microsoft.
And while it isn't nowhere near as frequent as TF2 updates, major L4D updates were released simultaneously for PC and 360.
How were the communities for console L4D(2) anyway?
I didn't play with pubs much, so I can't necessarily speak to the communities at large, but I've had some good times with the L4Ds on 360. They're oddly sub-par graphically compared to what the 360 should be pushing in Source, but besides that they're just fine. And the split-screen has offered me plenty of good times.
The prices of the DLCs are scandalous, though, and I don't buy the excuse that MS forced Valve to price them the way they did.
Ok, I've managed to glean the following about Frozen Synapse:
1. It's Indie
2. It's turn-based tactical (Echo's video was quite helpful here)
3. It's quite good.
But...er..what is it? I mean, how does it work, mechanically, and does it work? Is it, if you'll pardon the expression, 'for me'? It sort of looks like it is (shades of UFO: Enemy Unknown), but really, I'm looking for something I can co-op or (possibly) less-than-co-op with my wife, so...anyone? Bueller?

Can remember someone posting this video on the Steam thread when Frozen Synapse was first released. Does a decent job of showing and explaining the game.

wonder what happened to that

Getting started with BATTLETECH: Part 1 / Part 2
Yes, it's like a simcity type game where you are a tinpot Caribbean dictator. I'd go with the gold edition that comes with the expansion.

Global warming
That lowers the value a bit.
Lost all but one man, who had to defeat the last 3 hostiles by himself. So much footwork in the last few turns. A regular Fred Astaire, he was.

srsly?
You know, like...the old CS was on oXbox, right?
I traded away my Big Kill for a stock weapon, before I realised it was valuable
Oh well, still got my Max's Head.

This is like asking if breathing is worth it.
Not sure how I feel about Tropico 4 though.
