Ok, I've managed to glean the following about Frozen Synapse:
1. It's Indie
2. It's turn-based tactical (Echo's video was quite helpful here)
3. It's quite good.
But...er..what is it? I mean, how does it work, mechanically, and does it work? Is it, if you'll pardon the expression, 'for me'? It sort of looks like it is (shades of UFO: Enemy Unknown), but really, I'm looking for something I can co-op or (possibly) less-than-co-op with my wife, so...anyone? Bueller?
This is like asking if breathing is worth it.
Not sure how I feel about Tropico 4 though.
Is Tropico 4 out yet? I'll probably get it, I've had a craving for a building sim. There's a new Anno game coming out in a few months, I wonder if it'll make it to Steam.
Well MediaTonic's forum is not very populated and I couldn't find much via Google or Steam forums. I'll see if MediaTonic answers me but I think I'm done investing my time into getting a 2$ game to work. Pity, it did look fun...just not on my screen :P
So, thanks to this Kalypso sale, The Broken Sword trilogy is a whopping $3.39. If you have any interest at all in classic point-and-click adventure games, I highly recommend picking it up.
But...er..what is it? I mean, how does it work, mechanically, and does it work?
Can remember someone posting this video on the Steam thread when Frozen Synapse was first released. Does a decent job of showing and explaining the game.
So is it weird that I just impulse bought Railworks 2? Am I going insane? This game has tempted me for a while now (and you guys making fun of it makes me want it more). With that new update coming next month I just couldn't resist anymore. Whats really strange is that I'm not even a train fan, nor a sim fan. Well, I'll let you guys know what I think of it.
So is there anything to recommend classic Tropico over Tropico 3? I figure $7 is a fine price point for Tropico, but if I can get the same or better for $3 I'd be happy.

Classic Tropico is 2D (sprites). Tropico 3 is 3D (polygons, textures, the usual). The Classic Tropico games have a much better assistant voice that sounds like Ricardo Montalban. I'd imagine that Tropico 1/2 are more suited for most netbooks and such.
I just picked up Tropico. I figure like 50-odd missions of tropical dictating is plenty for $2.50. When it runs out, I can probably pick up 3 for $2.50 the next sale.

Tropico 3 is much prettier, and with the expansion, has some really cool missions and buildings. It's also a bit easier, Tropico 1 gets tough real fast.

Demo is out. Full game is out in September. They added some things...like imports, other foreign allies / enemies, insta-build and what look like some late-game structures. But it plays pretty much the same. Interface feels a little more intrusive now but it may just take some getting used to.
Oh wait, I forgot the most interesting new feature: the traits you pick have levels. So I guess if you use Cheapskate enough you will pay less for building stuff but your pay cap doesn't appear to go down. Doesn't seem all that balanced but it could be interesting.
Most of the stuff feels like it could have been dealt with in another expansion for Tropico 3.
Also: the radio personalities suck.

anybody ever bought any games from GetGamesGo? They are selling From Dust for $11.24 but apparently don't want to sell to Canadians??

We think alike. I got Tropico Gold for dirt cheap in a sale not long ago. It's enjoyable, well made and charming in it's third world dictator kind of way. I'm glad I got it, it fills a nice little niche in my Steam catalog. But it's not the type of game I spend enough time with to justify a more expensive option.
The mental image of a "beamdog" will amuse me briefly.
But yeah, that is odd. Especially from BioWare.

My brother and I bought King's Bounty from GetGamesGo ages back, and it worked more or less but their downloader is absolute shit.
My brother could never even managed to get the game to download from them without it being corrupt, we both eventually just ended up grabbing Steam copies while they were on sale.
I've been emailing Valve every couple years to request a Blue Box with Episode 3 and Portal 2.
... now that I think about it, I believe in one of the responses they joked about including a new Counter Strike as well.... I'd better go look for that.
I swear Direct2Drive is basically going "DUDE! Buy my stuff!" recently.
Last weekend they had a bunch of nice FPS games for deep sales, now they've got 'action' games for sale. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Dead Space 2, Red Faction Armageddon, Alice Madness Returns and ... uh, Shift 2.

Hope they keep these big weekend discounts up.
$16 for Assbro and $25 for Alice are both tempting me more than they should.
I may have to pretend that my mild annoyance that the Alice preorder bonuses will apparently never be released as paid DLC is enough to prevent me from snagging it.

Hello Mr. Newell,
*snipped a bunch of irrelevant shit about Left 4 Dead 2*
Thank you for your time.
Oh, and if you guys could just release L4D2 as part of a Black Box with Portal 2 and Episode 3, that'd be peachy.

Forar,
Yep. Going trying to work something out there. Should we include CS2 in the black box?
thanks,
chet
Between this and the Portal 2 thing, I'm beginning to think that they're just feeding me advance information as a joke. I do forget why I suggested a "black box" however. The other times it's been blue. Like the portals. This might've been as a reference to the zombies... Never mind, I'll show myself out.

I am so tempted to buy Alice from Direct2Drive, its terrible. It isn't Steam, though, so I must stay strong. (I should also probably buy Alice before it vanishes. Waiting for a sale may not be an option! How can that be?!)
It's only steam that they've been taking games off of. You'll notice that, for example, BF3 is still available for pre order from pretty much every other DD site

It'll be interesting to see if future DLC works with non-Origin copies of BF3 or if the DLC will be available on these non-Origin DD sites.
Considering BF3 will require origin be installed, I don't see how there will be non-Origin copies. Or at least thats what I keep reading all over the interwebs.
The prices of the DLCs are scandalous, though, and I don't buy the excuse that MS forced Valve to price them the way they did.
If MS came up with the prices, that's fine because we all know MS are dicks lolol amirite
On the other hand if Valve is responsible for the pricing, I can interpret that as them discouraging people from playing a PC game on a console by charging them outlandish prices for shit PC players get free. :rotate:

Thus confirming the nature of this dick-wagging contest between EA and Valve.

Seriously, because that's exactly what I am going to do, download a DD from a developer I have never even heard of before.

Nay. Disciples 2 was awesome, Disciples 3 was awful. Took away everything that was good about the series, the graphics are nicer, I guess theres that.

Damnit, didn't we just have a discussion about most people not wanting to have like a dozen digital distribution services to track/deal with?
