Word right now is that physical copies require Origin, as do copies bought on Origin obviously, but they haven't stated that Origin will be necessary for copies bought from other digitail retailers.
So all we have right now is a lack of confirmation that digital copies will require Origin. (Apparently they will continue using the shitty BattleLog system though, which is sad)
Considering BF3 will require origin be installed, I don't see how there will be non-Origin copies. Or at least thats what I keep reading all over the interwebs.
Oh, so that's how it is. I'm not the biggest Battlefield fan, I just don't like how they do so much stuff in those games, from how your account is managed to how combined arms are (mis)handled. So I'm not really keeping up with the BF3 thing. Thanks for the heads up.
I have to say, one positive thing about Origin is that you can plug in a key for an EA game and have it added to your Origin games list, which minimizes some of the "where the fuck did I buy this game from so I can re-download it" hassle normally associated with using more than one digital distribution site.
The prices of the DLCs are scandalous, though, and I don't buy the excuse that MS forced Valve to price them the way they did.
If MS came up with the prices, that's fine because we all know MS are dicks lolol amirite
On the other hand if Valve is responsible for the pricing, I can interpret that as them discouraging people from playing a PC game on a console by charging them outlandish prices for shit PC players get free. :rotate:
It's mainly that I've never seen that same claim applied to anyone else's DLC on Xbox Live, ever; as well as the simple fact that there is DLC for other games for less than the 560MSP/$7 each that the L4D packs go for, shockingly (heh) suggesting that that price is in no way a bare minimum. I was under the impression that MS had a limit on free DLC packs per title, which makes sense however distasteful it is, but also that publishers had the right to set DLC prices, and that L4D1 & 2 were published not by Microsoft, but by Valve under the EA Partners program.
The whole issue caused a small measure of spluttering when it initially happened, and has since been quietly accepted and swept under the rug. But as it stands currently, The Passing and The Sacrifice for L4D2, and Crash Course and (separately) The Sacrifice for L4D1, cost seven bucks each for a total of $28. The only freebie, as would on PC be Valve's tradition, was L4D1's Survival Pack (which added Survival Mode and The Last Stand).
As much fun as I've had from vanilla L4D1 & 2 on 360, the whole business leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. And no, I haven't just bought the DLC anyway.

Sorry to digress so much in a thread about Steam, rather than Valve games on consoles. So let me get back on topic slightly by saying that, holy crap, Frozen Synapse is bonkers. Gloriously, wonderfully bonkers. It's making me think about dusting off Laser Squad again.

Except the first Mass Effect. Unless you can add that now. I know I couldnt add my Steam version when Origin first came out, and Ive since stopped using the service so... There may be other games you cant add, but looking at my Steam list I surprisingly only own 3 EA games.
Also apparently a combination of Mojang, God, and The Newell are working together to prevent me from purchasing Minecraft. My bank declined my initial transaction attempt, and then on the next attempt (with a different card) Minecraft.net told me I couldn't use my card for 24 hours. Too bad. I was really looking forward to getting into that.
Basically, you're looking at the following if you want to get anything significant in terms of monetary value worth of games
Severed Max Head
Earbuds
Soldier Medals
Unusual Hats
Big Kill
Vintage Lugermorph
That's more or less it
had to go a few pages back for this. I just installed TF2 upon hearing that the hats and extras only come through once the game has been started once. So I botted it up and I have a fair bit of stuff.
A Lvl 5 Mercenary badge and the Original Rocket Launcher. No idea of their worth.

And the Original Rocket Launcher was a promo item for Quake IV during Quakecon wasn't it?
I think that's in the store, which will hit its value. It's the non-craftable items that aren't in the Mann Co Store that are really worth top dollar.

So Frozen Synapse is pretty hard, but very satisfying when a plan comes together. I would prefer the reset rooms and no in-mission saving be part of a hardcore mode. Yes, I'm a wuss.
There's a spreadsheet that will give you a rough idea, though probably the best way to get a feel for the market is browsing the SourceOP forums and the TF2 thread and just getting a feel for the market. There is no "Genuine Original is worth $8" or whatever resource available.

At least not until Overstreet puts out a Steam guide.
So, I want to play ... something ... but I'm just staring at my long-ass list o' Steam games and drawing a blank. I have also realized I've never even played some of these games. The games from the 3 Humble Bundles, some crap I picked up in sales on the cheap (Civ City Rome), fuck I do this on my Kindle too. I have a collection on the Kindle called "Haven't Read Them Yet" that has over 50 books in it because I'm addicted to the free/99 cent books.
I don't think I should be allowed to have things in digital format.

You've got less than an hour played in 2 weeks. You gotta boot up the games to play them!

Or you can just play the 'What should I play' metagame then never actually play them.

Fuck Assassin Creed 2's control system. Ezio is a fucking retard, jumping off of shit all the fucking time for no good reason. I spend half my time screaming "FUCK YOOOOOOUUUUU" at Ezio for jumping way too far or in the opposite direction the camera is facing or something ridiculous like that. I am at 4 hours and seriously unsure if I will continue. I love the atmosphere but games are supposed to be fun and I can feel my blood pressure building up. I can't even tell if the controls are way too sensitive or not sensitive enough but I know that the context-sensitive is bullshit and console ports are bullshit and I want the game to let me have control of my avatar, not be fighting an interface the whole time. Every so often it starts to click and then Ezio decides he's had enough of the rooftops and let's plummet 3 stories and now we have barely any health and we have to climb back up. This is very frustrating.

I had a Diablo 2 itch that I scratched with some Torchlight. Getting D2 to play nice with Windows 7 is a pain even though Microsoft claims it's compatible.

I found AC2's freerunning extremely frustrating as well, especially in comparison to the infinitely superior Mirror's Edge variant which is fluid and precise. Ezio was constantly deciding to spring off at a 45 degree angle sailing into the street, or to dive to kill some random citizen on the ground instead of the dude in front of him, or repeatedly targeting everyone except the chase target. Ezio also has absolutely no idea how to lead projectiles. Plus, later on in the game, he inexplicably does some incredibly fucking stupid things during cutscenes that had me yelling at the screen.
It's a good game, and I'd stick with it because some of the later cities are lovely (Venice), but I was surprised that it was anyone's GoTY, especially since I think Arkham was in the same period.

I have absolutely no attachment to my TF2 items, so I just got rid off my Earbuds. Some nice guy traded me From Dust and a TF2 key for them.
I guess they might be more valuable than that, but I dont care. I just got an awesome game for a pair of digital Earbuds for a game that I rarely play

Not exactly the right thread, but sorta relevant. Minecraft purchases this weekend net you a second giftable code.
