Dead Island is like Borderlands except for the combat, and it doesn't make you sit through 9 hours of cutscene to get to the fighting. The combat is like Condemned or Butcher Bay sorta. You really feel like you're swinging a kayak paddle around when you whack a zombie with it.
Also the game is gorgeous don't believe anyone's lies.
I just think it's sad that someone pushed the Dev Build of the game to Steam, apparently with the codes for the authentication server just sitting in an ini file. Not a great start for a game with some promise.
It is heartening that they seem to be on the ball addressing the stuff. I just hope the Authentication thing doesn't hurt them too much.

I still dont understand the trading thing. Is there some kind of site i can just list all those stupid TF2 pre-order items I have so i can trade them to people for something I may find more fun?

Steam was initially issuing temp bans for the leaked Dirt 3 keys, but now it looks like they are just removing them. You might want to send in a steam support ticket just to be safe, Spaniard.
Yep, just woke up and it's gone from my list. Thank God, as soon as he told me where he got it from I didn't even bother downloading it, to give Steam a chance of invalidating the key.
So Steam Support's twitter account has an update regarding Dirt 3. People aren't getting banned over it. They also said they'll update when they have more info. So those of you with legitimately obtained keys, feel free to use them I guess?
Edit: I just realized that I'm going to be asleep when the giveaway ends. Whoops! But rest assured, whoever wins, you'll get it bright and early in the morning.
Reposting this for people just getting off work and such. Five more hours!
I posted this in the TF2 thread but just in case I might get a bit more luck here, posting here too about this problem I'm having with TF2:
When I'm in the game, I can't connect to any server. Either directly joining a server or just by using Start Playing and selecting a game type. For the latter, it'll find a bunch of server, but dead end, saying it could not connect. Have tried high population ones and low. However, I can join a friend's game by using the Join Game interface in Steam.
You rock Teeman! Is there anyway to play this in multiplayer and, if not, are there any games you'd like to play online? Also, I won't forget this
I don't think there is, it'd be awesome if that was the case. What's your Frozen Synapse ID? I need some friends on that because it foolishly doesn't sync with Steam friends.

I'd have to check, I don't remember. Been a long time since I played FS and I sucked at it when I did :P

So I decided to give Origin a shot and now I'm currently registering all of the EA Games I can on it.
Newell, forgive me.
EDIT: Hey that's cool, I don't have to re-download anything. The stuff I already have installed can be launched from the browser.
In case anyone hasn't already snagged this game, if you're intrigued by a very stylish (or stylishly ugly), extremely bleak and nihilistic Michael Mann-homage crime shooter and don't mind highly repetitive gameplay and a ludicrously short single player campaign, it's worth $5. It's if nothing else a unique experience.
There's also a demo.
Oh, and don't bother with the DLC.

I played it on the PS3, because I found it for three dollars. I just... couldn't handle that camera. It made me feel nauseous like I haven't felt while playing a game since Doom on the SNES.
On the other hand, if you are more manly than I about that sort of thing, or if its better on PC, I did hear other people saying good things about it.
Steam keeps trying to update itself to the August 1 update with the Sniper Elite fix. It does this every week or so. I'm concerned that I'm not getting real or current updates because of this. What should I do?

I had this going on forever as well. It finally updated with the non-beta release of Trading and I haven't seen the Aug 1 patch since.

The multiplayer and all its modes are quite good as well, in my opinion. It's too bad you're basically condemned to playing with bots forevermore, though.
I think my problem with the campaign was I just didn't really understand or care. When the credits rolled, I kept thinking I must have nodded off earlier during an especially important cutscene that gave the game purpose.

There is actually a very bleak, but very interesting undercurrent running through the game. I wouldn't go so far as to say it has a message that people need to hear, but it does have one and there was an honest attempt at creating a vehicle for it.
My semi-pretentious Steam review for it:
The series that singlehandedly set Jeff Gerstmann free. For many, that is reason enough to blow this game off, but if you see it cheap there's no shame in reconsidering.
The game may be a missive on the nature of hope, because for some reason our protagonists think they can carry on with a weapons deal after epically fucking up before it even has a chance to see the light of day. After shitting the bed so horrifically Kane & Lynch are forced to scurry around the underbelly of Shanghai like startled roaches who can't decide whether to make a break for some dark place where they can disappear or to grab one last mouthful and hope for the best.
The game has a visual style that hasn't been imitated yet, but really should be, and simple gunplay that brings the game to a close just as it gets a bit stale. Not the worst way to spend an afternoon.

The reason I like Kane & Lynch is because it is so utterly bleak and depressing. I guess I'm weird like that. The quote "And yet to every bad, there is a worse" applies here, because everything that can go wrong for the boys goes wrong and then some.
I generally like games that say things without saying them, and it's possible I've just been conditioned by hollywood to expect more rigid kinds of plots, but I suppose that I just found their behavior unrealistic. After all was said and done, I felt like the original game did a better job of making characters out of them and having you root for them. The best way I can think of to frame the sequel is a surrealistic (ultrarealistic?) fairy tale.
I might be too hard on the game right now. The last time I played it was about a year and a half ago, so perhaps I'll look at it again and see if maybe I pick up on anything new.
I have an extra copy of Dungeons of Dredmor burning a hole in my inventory.
Got it for a friend but he bought it himself. Don't want anything in return, just want to contribute to the classy atmosphere you guys have got going here.
Does anyone else play Portal 2 on a Mac? Twice now I have gone into the Portal 2 Robot Enrichment bit then to the store. I can look at most of the hats and gestures and things but clicking on the Bundles tab crashes the game. I get the an Mac OS X error message saying 'portal2_osx has quit unexpectedly.'
is there are reason my game says trading is still 'Coming Soon' I thought that update to Steam and the note and any Steam Chat window meant it trading was ready now.
I might try rebooting into Windows and see how that goes. (yes I have duplicate data, some games in both OSs)

I dunno man, they really need to tessellate
There's a trading section on the Steam forums.

First person to add me as a friend (oh God I'm buying internet friendship!) gets a brand-spanking new copy of Zombie Shooter 2
ID is in the sig
edit: And York has it! Congrats
Edit2: Ok York isn't his PA name, show yourself fine gentleman!
Also, Kinda annoyed I didn't get the Witcher 2 from Steam now. Been playing it again and keep expecting achievements notification to pop up
Oh I've got a bunch of games in the similar vein of the one I gave away, I'll get more creative next time

Is that Deus Ex in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?
(already have it myself just had to put that up)
If it's the original, then I wouldn't mind it. I have an extra code for Darksiders (from buying Space Marine) that you might want in exchange?
