PAX 2011 PC Tournaments Rules & Info

edited August 2011 in PAX Archive
Hello All!

*Note that all information in this thread is subject to change between now and August 26th*

This thread is for rules, registration guidelines, updates, schedules, and questions regarding PC tournaments ONLY. This thread will NOT cover BYOC activities, console freeplay, console tournament, or any other events, including handheld, tabletop, etc.

I'd also like to take a moment to thank Intel for generously devoting their time, efforts, and energy into making these tournaments possible. With out their support, these events wouldn't be possible, thank you.

Schedule
Friday, August 26th
5:00pm - 9:00pm Team Fortress 2 (6v6)
10:00pm - 12:00am SUPER SECRET TOURNAMENT: World of Tanks (3v3) http://www.worldoftanks.com/

Saturday, August 27th
11:00am - 5:00pm League of Legends (5v5), presented by Riot Games!
8:00pm - 11:00pm Warsow (1v1)

Sunday, August 28th
11:00am - 5:00pm Starcraft 2 (1v1)

Registration
  • Registration for ALL PC tournaments begins on Friday, August 26th at 10am, right outside of the PC-Tournament area.
  • Only full teams will be signed up. It is your job to join and/or create a team, we're not your babysitter. It is recommended you linger around the PC-Tournament area at signup time, and at tournament time and your chances of joining a team will be Pretty Good.
  • Check-in time will begin 45 minutes prior to a tournament's starting time. Competitors are required to check-in at least 15 minutes before the tournament's start time. If you/your team doesn't check in during this time, your spot will be opened for another person/team.

General Information
  • All tournaments will be exclusively using tournament computers provided by Intel and Nvidia. You will be allowed to bring over your mice and keyboards and customize your configurations, you will not be allowed to load software of any kind.
  • If you sign up for a tournament, please be there. If you decide you will be unable to, check in with us and let us know so we can open up a spot for someone else.
  • As a general rule, it's a good idea to show up at least 20 minutes in advance of each tournament, and that will give you time to configure your settings and warm up before the tournament begins.
  • We should be able to sit teams next together for the most part, but in cases where we can't, Ventrilo servers will be available. Feel free to ask if you'd like one and we'll provide you with password information.
  • In team games, please take care in choosing a team captain. Pick someone responsible. Being tall or otherwise easily found in crowd can also help.

LOOKING FOR A LOL TEAM OR TO CREATE A TEAM.

-I am going to pax solo.
-My highest elo rating was 1450.
-If you guys are not above 1200 elo I probably will hold out to meet people in line at the tourney unless you have players ready to go and practice.
-My in game name is CBR1000Rider, my smurf is CBR1000Rider3.
-I own all the champions on my CBR1000Rider account.

I can play pretty much any champ but am very good with the following champions in order of highest confidence starting at the top..

Vladimir (if I get mid as vlad, I can pretty much carry the team provided no one else feeds farther than 1-3.)
    Kennen
    Akali
    Fiddlesticks
    Evelynn
    Shen
    Blitzcrank
    Swain
    Nasus
    Ashe
    Xin Zhao
    Pantheon

Add me in game or message me here. I am willing to set up a team or join a team. Add me on CBR1000Rider3, as it is my smurf and I will be playing on it until pax to get the rating up in ranked for the forum name color (just hit 30 with it a day ago).

    Thanks

Please don't. We don't really have room on the forums for more than one tournament thread.

I'm thinkin' that TF2 tourney has my name on it.

I'm primarily a Scoot, but I can also play a fairly solid Soldier. Been playing since...mid-2008, I think. Not professionally or competitively, but for a loooong time.

If you are interested in maybe joining me on a team, you should add me on the Steam thing! [HwP] Bonk Boy / Toast42. :>

EDIT: This is probably a silly question, but media can sign up for tournaments too, right? >_>

This map pool is wicked stale ... did someone copy-paste the rules from PAX 2010? :D. Some of these maps are heavily favored for one race or another; some haven't been in the ladder pool since the beta, etc. Also that's a ton o' maps for a 7 round best-of-1 tournament. Any chance for something smaller and more current?

Here are some recent tournament map pools. Maps that are in the ladder map pool are italicized:

MLG Anaheim: Dual Sight, Metalopolis, Shakuras Plateau, Shattered Temple, Tal'darim Altar, Testbug, Xel'Naga Caverns
MLG Columbus: same except Typhon Peaks instead of Dual Sight
TSL3: Crevasse, Crossfire SE, Shakuras Plateau, Tal'darim Altar, Xel'naga Caverns, Metalopolis, Terminus RE
NASL1: Terminus RE, Crossfire SE, Backwater Gulch, Tal'darim Altar, Metalopolis, Xel'Naga Caverns, Shattered Temple, Typhon Peaks
NASL2: Antiga Shipyard, Dual Sight, Bel'Shir Beach, Terminus SE, Metalopolis, Tal'darim Altar, Crevasse, Shattered Temple, Xel'Naga Caverns
Dreamhack: Terminus SE, Xel'Naga Caverns, Crossfire SE, Tal'darim Altar, Crevasse, Metalopolis, Shakuras Plateau

Maps in 5/5 map pools: Metalopolis, Tal'darim Altar, Xel'Naga Caverns
Maps in 4/5 map pools: Terminus (the RE/SE thing is just release/second edition; they're almost the same map)
Maps in 3/5 map pools: Shakuras Plateau, Crevasse, Crossfire
Maps in 2/5 map pools: Dual Sight, Typhon Peaks
Maps in 1/5 map pools: Antiga Shipyard, Backwater Gulch, Bel'Shir Beach, Testbug

EDIT also how will maps be chosen? Veto or will each round have an assigned map? Loser picks for later rounds (not that I'll get there lol)?

Merged from Battlefield 3 Tournament? (Huh?)
So, I read up on the latest news of Battlefield 3 and learned that there's a tournament being hosted at PAX Prime. I just have one question: How is a 12 vs 12 single player tournament held?

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/pax-prime.html

    Very confused here.

If it turns out to be single player "speed runs" or based on your "performance" in single player, then it's fine by me. But multiplayer will be a little more difficult as I wouldn't have anyone to join up with.

GilesG, I am looking to put a team together; I have competitive experience, and I am well rounded in all classes but best at spy/heavy. My girlfriend is interested in joining as well, her experience is non competitive but she is alright as medic/pyro. Alika, we could use a proficient medic and "competitive experience" isn't needed, 600+ hours is fine enough. If people interested could PM me that would be great, I will confirm the team and set up a meeting time and location so we can sign in.
