Awesome, other people to share my thoughts with about "The Confession". My God, this was well written. Brian Michael Bendis really captured the emotion coming off of both Tony Start and Steve Rogers. Alex Maleev is an incredible artist.

Yeah, this definitely made up for all the crappy writing we saw before.

Confession was hella mawkish. If I hear Tony give that spiel one more fucking time, I am going to rip books in half. After the five millionth expository moment on the reasons behind Civil War, we fucking get it.

Can someone spoil it for me? My shop was out today.

    Forewarning. This is a doozy. I don't half-ass (though I don't do it justice).

Tony's Confession: Tony enters the helicarrier, sits down, and is talking to someone. He explains that ahem...during an trip back in time to fight against Dr. Doom he basically saw that there was going to be a scale fight amongst superfolk. He explained that people left and right shirked off this prediction (The Illuminati being one such group), he basically kept it to himself. (It is also revealed that the man who gave Tony the advance draft of the legislation is Nick Fury) He knew his way would end in Cap hating him and the two having a friendship that couldn't be mended. But his way would prevent the possible deaths of thousands the war could've had if he hadn't acted on it. He took a position, like he thought Cap would. He knew he'd have to lie in bed with folks he loathed, and had hated the idea of registration, but it was a necessary evil. He is crying into a mirror sheen on his helmet during all of this, and finally says it all wasn't worth it. Across from him is the dead body of Captain America along with his shield.

    Cap's...ahem...definative speech (prior to death):

Cap is loaded into a jail by young soldiers, one of whom salutes him. After a 22 yr old guard has an exchange with 85 yr old Cap, in comes Tony. He says he begged Cap to stop. Cap says Tony is ill. He may be out of touch, but Cap says his new powers have seriously gotta be making him ill. Tony tells him if he understood his powers, Cap would've won. Cap then says that him being in a cell doesn't mean Tony's won in the slightest. Cap goes on to say he held on to his principles and fought while Tony sold them and comprimised his. This is Cap's first knowledge that Tony became Director of SHIELD. He screams how the hell Tony elected himself as the superhero moral compass and if all of this was really worth it.

Tony tells him that he's a sore loser. As Tony walks out, Cap says you bet.

Christ, I know it's a lot of run-on and it may seem a little incoherent but please buy this issue. I'm really not doing it justice. Basically, all that matters is when Cap says (aside from Tony's part. I now don't hate him for his actions. I was pro-reg anyhow) this:

"Do you actually think the fact that you can program a computer makes you more of a human being than me? That I'm out of touch because I don't know what you know? I know what freedom is. I know what it's like to fight for it and what it costs to have it. You know comprimise."

O wholeheartedly agree about Confession. I absolutely loved Tony Starks section. It finally portrays him in a better light than the one I saw through all of Civial War. The second part kinda confused me though, as to me anyways it ended up making him look like a dick, especially that last line of his.

Well, I think at the time he was still mad at Captain America... I mean, just because he knew how this would go down doesn't mean there weren't hurt feelings on both sides. Clearly, that rift closed after Caps death.

Yeah, it's way easier to admit that you're a piece of shit when standing over the body of the dear friend you betrayed and caused to be killed than it is when facing that same living friend and having him point out to you what a piece of shit you've become.

Also, remember, the Maple Leaf flag wasn't created until the 60s. And that Union Jack is part of the original WWII Canadian recruitment poster. Back then, 90% of the population here was probably British immigrants or descendants too. There was a lot of "no one fucks with the motherland" sentiment.

Though, a little googling turns up a better Canadian WWII poster to put BRB in:

OH don't get me wrong, I'm happy to be part of the Commonwealth. I'm living in the UK right now, actually.

It's just that first of all Omega Flight is supposed to be Canada's Superteam, and we've got all of one Canadian on Omega Flight. Hell, we've got USAgent? Fuck that.

Then they use the Union Jack on the recruitment posters, all WWI/WWII historical accuracy aside.

Just bitter. I loved Alpha Flight.. :(

Maybe as an apology to Canada for having a U.S. citizen wipe out their super hero team?

Or, perhaps this is the first step to a broader global program? If SHIELD is the one running the 50-state initative, and SHILD operates under the mantle of the UN...

or maybe it's just a stupid, disrespectful idea, made more palatable by the presence of Beta Ray Bill...

In the eyes of the USA Canada is just another state. And since we are not offically American we get shafted with the shitty "Omega Flight" team.

If Marvel was smart they'd stick Wolverine on Omega Flight rather than the New Avengers. Cause you know, he's pretty much the only Canadian character Marvel has that anyone is familiar with.

Or has his Canadian citizenship been removed via some lame ass retcon in his never ending/changing "Origins" deal?

    Not yet.

There may be two, technically three, Canadians on Omega. Talisman is for sure, Sasquatch (unknown if hes on the team or what), and apparently the human form of Beta Ray Bill was a Canadian serving in the US armed forces. Still though, wearing a dead Canadian's corpse doesn't really make you a Canadian.

I'm not thrilled with the line up. Wouldn't US Agent want to be in the states, especially after Cap getting killed? And there are Canadian heroes and former members of Alpha Flight that aren't doing anything right now, such as Northstar and Aurora, Madison Jeferies, Diamond Lil, etc.

Theres a better image quality (and extra page) preview of OF #1 over at AlphaFlight.net btw.
Link The forums there are probably the best place to find information on the series, Oeming, Kolins, and the colourist for the series, Reber, have all posted there.
